God-Level Special Forces Soldier

Chapter 576: Chapter 573: Speak of the Devil

Melinda’s speech was very slow, making Xiao Tian instinctively alert: ”What do you want to do?”

”Hehe!” Melinda laughed mischievously, then suddenly raised her voice and shouted, ”Help, I’m being harassed!”

Xiao Tian hurriedly covered Melinda’s mouth to stop her screaming, then said helplessly, ”You haven’t removed the cultivation technique, no one outside can hear you no matter how loud you shout.”

”Oh yeah!” Melinda said, pretending to realize, ”Thanks for reminding me! I’ll remove the cultivation technique and shout again!”

Xiao Tian knew Melinda wouldn’t really do that, but he still cooperated by pleading, ”Spare me, heroine!”

Melinda smiled smugly, her gaze turning serious: ”Seriously, with your current strength, it’s very dangerous in such an environment.”

”For example?” Xiao Tian asked.

”There are wolves in the mountains. Think about it, what if you encounter a pack of wolves?”

Xiao Tian was taken aback with laughter, knowing that she was worried about him but embarrassed to admit it, so she came up with this clumsy excuse. Just as he was about to retort, a sudden howl struck him...

”Awooo...”

Melinda and Xiao Tian exchanged glances, both a bit dumbfounded, how could things happen just as they were mentioned?

”Awooo...”

Another wolf howl came, this time directly snapping Melinda out of her surprise as she squealed and quickly threw herself into Xiao Tian’s arms.

Feeling the rapid heartbeat and slightly trembling body in his arms, Xiao Tian didn’t know what to say. It turned out Melinda was afraid of wolves?

Honestly, with Melinda’s current strength, she could easily wipe out a pack of wolves at will.

Of course, Xiao Tian also understood that some fears stem from psychological shadows, which have little to do with the strength level.

Just like someone who sells rat poison but is afraid of mice, having means to deal with them doesn’t lower the fear in the heart!

After a long time with no more wolf howls, Melinda finally released Xiao Tian with lingering fear.

Looking at the darkness outside the tent, Melinda withdrew the cultivation technique and then turned off the lamp on the tent: ”Sleep now!”

In the darkness, the two lay side by side, separated by a half-person width, with a hugging blanket covering them. Neither spoke, even their breathing seemed cautious.

”Are you asleep?”

Melinda, unable to stand the oppressive atmosphere, gently asked.

”No!” Xiao Tian placed his hands behind his head: ”Aren’t you going to sleep?”

”I’m afraid that if I fall asleep, you’ll take advantage of me!” Melinda felt she couldn’t even dare to move: ”I’ll sleep after you do.”

Xiao Tian chuckled: ”Alright!” With that, he closed his eyes, his breathing becoming steady, looking as if he really fell asleep.

Half an hour later, Melinda tentatively asked again: ”Are you asleep?”

Just as she finished speaking, Xiao Tian’s closed eyes opened in response: ”Can’t sleep. How about I count to three, and we knock each other out?”

Melinda was amused by Xiao Tian’s words and laughed: ”And then be carried away by wolves as breakfast?”

Thinking since they couldn’t sleep anyway, having a conversation might be good, Xiao Tian just opened his mouth to speak...

”Awooo...”

The sudden sound made Melinda’s body tremble immediately, gripping the blanket tightly, appearing extremely tense.

Xiao Tian was dumbfounded as he looked at Melinda burying her head in the blanket next to him. After a long time, he said, ”Is this some kind of special ability you have?”

Melinda clutched the blanket tightly over her head, not daring to come out or respond, only hoping no more wolf sounds would come.

But this time, Melinda’s prayers didn’t work. The wolf howls came occasionally, just when she was relaxing as if deliberately targeting her!

Xiao Tian couldn’t bear it any longer: ”How about I help you temporarily block your hearing?”

Melinda suddenly sat up like a frightened rabbit: ”No, no, hearing them is actually better. If I can’t hear, I will feel like wolves are howling nearby anytime, anywhere!”

After saying that, she lay down again and said a little embarrassedly: ”You sleep first, don’t worry about me!”

Xiao Tian smiled wryly, could he even sleep?

...

”How about you move closer to me?” Seeing Melinda trapped in fear, unable to extricate herself, Xiao Tian asked thick-skinnedly.

Melinda, hiding under the blanket, heard Xiao Tian’s words and her pretty face turned a bright red, stammering: ”N-No, that’s not necessary, right?”

Xiao Tian ignored Melinda’s refusal, gritting his teeth as he pulled the blanket from her hands and then drew her toward himself, holding her in his arms.

Melinda let out a startled cry, feeling a pair of strong arms locking her in place. After struggling twice to no avail and seeing Xiao Tian not making any further moves, she tried to calm down.

Although wolf howls still echoed sporadically in her ears, Melinda found that she wasn’t as afraid as before.

Once the fear was suppressed, another tension mixed with a slight excitement welled up, followed by a heartbeat like a drumbeat, and her breathing became a bit rapid...

Xiao Tian frowned. Just now, he tried extracting a portion of the energy Duoduo left for him, wrapping it with his True Qi to start healing himself.

At this moment, sensing the anomaly in Melinda, Xiao Tian relaxed his arms slightly, which helped the situation much more.

...

It was already midnight, and the wolf howls outside had long stopped, but Melinda didn’t ask Xiao Tian to let go, whispering softly: ”About earlier in the evening, I’m sorry!”

Xiao Tian’s injuries were half healed by the pure energy, and hearing Melinda’s soft apology, he said: ”You can’t be blamed, you didn’t recognize me at the time.”

”So what are you planning next...”

Xiao Tian had already guessed what Melinda was about to say. This was her second time asking, and if he declined again, it would seem a bit unreasonable, so he said: ”Together then!”

”With you, this great expert, as my bodyguard, and moreover a beautiful one, so stylish!” Xiao Tian joked.

”Then what reward can you offer me?” Melinda asked in return.

Knowing the other party had agreed, Xiao Tian boldly said: ”Anything you ask for, provided I can afford it!”

Melinda laughed: ”Then I’ll have to think it over carefully...”

——

At noon, when the sun was high in the sky, people were surprised to find that Melinda’s tent remained quiet.

”Do you think something might have happened?”

”Previously, those three ranked around the fortieth in mastery, while that perverted old man was beyond the top hundred, what could happen?”

”That’s not necessarily true, Jiang Kaishan, the old thing, is infamous as a rapist, he must have something up his sleeve. What if...”
