Chapter 600: Chapter 600: Recruiting Guards

Lin Yun left Mo Zhi to oversee the guards’ training, for which he had already prepared the necessary medicinal baths. As for Lin Yun himself, he went out for drinks in the Yanhuang Capital with Wangcai and Li Ji.

Having not seen each other for several years, the group naturally wanted to have a proper reunion. They drank late into the night, and in the end, it was Wangcai who escorted Lin Yun, Lu Bingning, and the other two women back.

After getting off the carriage, just before entering the gate, Lin Yun whispered to Wangcai, ”Help me investigate how many of the Lin Family’s guards and servants were placed here by the Royal Family.”

Hearing this, Wangcai readily nodded in agreement. Now that he was the Patriarch of the Wang Family, it wouldn’t be difficult for them to investigate the backgrounds of the Lin Family’s servants and guards.

After giving Wangcai his instructions, Lin Yun returned to his room, accompanied by Lu Bingning and the other two women.

Lin Yun didn’t even have to think to guess that the Royal Family had surely planted people among the Lin Family’s guards and servants. Their goal wasn’t to harm the Lin Family, but to keep them under surveillance.

The name ”Lin Family” was now like a sharp blade hanging over the Royal Family’s head. Although Lin Yun had shown no intention of destroying the Royal Family, they naturally couldn’t rest easy about the Lin Family and would definitely send people to watch them.

Lin Yun believed that Lin Xiaotian must have realized this as well. However, perhaps because Lin Xiaotian still held some lingering affection for Yanhuang Country, he hadn’t taken action against these people.

’Being watched is certainly an uncomfortable feeling. Since Lin Xiaotian won’t act, it’s up to me, his son, to do it.’

The matter of the spies planted by the Royal Family was handed over to Wangcai. Meanwhile, Lin Yun ordered Mo Zhi to recruit more guards and servants.

Hearing that the Lin Family was recruiting guards and servants again, many Martial Artists in the Yanhuang Capital flocked to sign up. These people all knew that just a few days ago, several Tier Four Firebirds had landed at the Lin Family estate.

In everyone’s eyes, being a guard for the Lin Family now was probably much better than joining the Royal Family’s Forbidden Guard Army.

Moreover, the benefits Lin Yun offered his guards and servants were extremely generous, all set according to the standards of the great families in the Eastern Heart Domain. ℯℯ𝑙.

By the standards of Yanhuang Country, the terms offered by a great family from the Eastern Heart Domain were incredibly lavish.

The registration was taking place in the Lin Family’s back courtyard. After waking up early and finishing his Martial Skill practice, Lin Yun, with nothing else to do, ambled over. Seeing the long queue that had already formed, a faint smile touched his lips.

Seeing Lin Yun arrive, Mo Zhi quickly walked up to greet him, respectfully calling out, ”Young Master.”

Hearing Mo Zhi’s form of address and seeing his respectful expression, it didn’t take long for people in the queue to guess Lin Yun’s identity.

”Is that him? Lin Xiaotian’s son, Lin Yun?”

”He’s so young. I can’t see through his Cultivation at all. It seems signing up for the Lin Family was the right choice.”

”Yeah, I have to become a Lin Family guard. Then I can follow Young Master Lin to the Eastern Heart Domain in the future.”

Everyone began to whisper among themselves. Lin Yun paid their discussions no mind. There were indeed many applicants, but he couldn’t possibly accept them all; they would naturally have to go through a selection process.

He whispered to Mo Zhi, ”Cultivation isn’t important to me. You must find loyal people, understand?”

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, Mo Zhi nodded. He understood what Lin Yun meant.

After giving Mo Zhi a few more instructions, Lin Yun left the back courtyard. He was confident Mo Zhi knew how to select the right candidates, so he didn’t need to worry about such a small matter.

When recruiting guards now, Lin Yun no longer prioritized strength. ’How strong could a Martial Artist from Yanhuang Country be, anyway?’ Once they joined the Lin Family, he had plenty of ways to improve their Cultivation and Combat Power. The only prerequisite was absolute loyalty.

「Two days passed.」

Mo Zhi proved to be quite efficient, finishing the recruitment of new guards and servants within that time.

In total, twenty new servants and Maids were hired, and the ranks of the guards were increased as well, all according to the quotas Lin Yun had set beforehand.

Mo Zhi followed Lin Yun’s instructions for screening the guards to the letter: he disregarded Cultivation and Combat Power, focusing only on their loyalty to the Lin Family.

Arriving at the Martial Arts Training Ground, the number of Lin Family guards had grown from eighteen to fifty-five. Looking at them, Lin Yun spoke coolly.

”The Lin Family will not mistreat its own. Of course, in return, you must not harbor any disloyalty. Now, if anyone among you was sent by the Royal Family to spy on us, step forward. I will let bygones be bygones.” From the very beginning, Lin Yun got straight to the point.

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, the guards all looked at one another. Finally, five men stepped forward. They were clearly the ones sent by the Royal Family.

”Young Master, we have no intention of harming the Lin Family. The Royal Family only sent us to keep you under surveillance,” one of the five confessed to Lin Yun.

Hearing this, Lin Yun nodded slightly and called out again, ”Is that everyone?”

Lin Yun’s question received no response. After more than ten breaths, his finger pointed toward three men in the back row. Seeing Lin Yun point at them, the three men’s expressions changed instantly.

”Mo Zhi, seize those three and throw them out of the Lin Family,” he ordered.

At his command, Mo Zhi struck instantly. Leading a group of guards, he apprehended the three men in a flash. They were completely subdued and brought before Lin Yun. Looking at the three, Lin Yun said coolly,

”I said that the people of the Lin Family must be loyal. I gave you a chance, but you didn’t cherish it. Mo Zhi, pay them their wages for this month and throw them out.”

Lin Yun didn’t kill them. He merely expelled them from the Lin Family, and even gave them their wages for the month.

After they were dragged out of the Martial Arts Training Ground, Lin Yun turned his gaze back to the five who had stepped forward voluntarily. ”You five did well. I am willing to trust you one more time. But from this day forward, you must remember that you have only one identity: you are members of the Lin Family.”

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, the five men nodded gratefully in acknowledgment.

Every major and minor family and Martial Artist in the Yanhuang Capital now knew that the Lin Family had completely surpassed the Royal Family. That was why Lin Yun didn’t eliminate the spies sent by the royals. As long as they could be loyal to the Lin Family in the future, he wouldn’t bring this matter up again.

Moreover, his actions were also a message to the Royal Family: stop with these petty tricks. They were meaningless.

He then arranged their training. The fifty-five guards were divided into three squads, each led by a Commander. Mo Zhi, meanwhile, was made the Grand Commander of all Lin Family guards.

He tasked Mo Zhi with supervising their daily training. Lin Yun had already informed him of the cultivation methods to be used. From now on, Lin Yun wouldn’t need to manage these affairs; he could leave everything to Mo Zhi.

Finally, Lin Yun told all the Lin Family guards that if anyone proved disloyal in the future, there would be only one outcome for them: death.
