Chapter 89: Revised: Chapter 49 Return to the Capital

The efficiency of the Federation Government was very high, with a large amount of materials and funds continuously flowing into Miloke, making the assembly of hundreds of army divisions turn Miloke into a bustling military camp.

The giant space and ground docks had already begun construction in full cooperation. Due to Miloke’s preferential policies, major enterprises settled quickly, driving the rapid development of various industries throughout Miloke.

In just a few days, this lonely planet, which a week ago was still in the midst of war fire, had transformed into the most vibrant center of the Leray Federation.

Fatty spent two days looking for Ann Lei, wanting to clarify matters regarding Mr. Ann. However, Ann Lei seemed to be deliberately avoiding him, disappearing like she had vanished into thin air. No one knew where she was.

Helpless, Fatty found Bernadotte and, amidst the ambiguous looks from several generals, obtained the answer: Ann Lei had been ordered to return to the capital.

Since she was going back to the capital, certain matters had to be settled. Fatty first went to the 6th Room to hand over all his work to Big Head Karl. The backlog from missions and the next month’s workload almost made Karl faint on the spot.

Saying goodbye to colleagues in the research room, Tian Xingjian was about to leave when Colonel Pat stopped him and said, ”Wait a moment, Lieutenant Tian.”

Colonel Pat took out a letter and handed it to Fatty. ”Here is a letter Admiral Russell entrusted me to pass on to you. He hopes you’ll read it when you are most confused. He said he had the same doubts as you once.”

Fatty was dazed, not expecting Russell to write him a letter. Hesitant, he accepted it, deciding he would not be influenced by this military strategist until he found his own answers. Besides, he doubted how this strategist, who could barely remember his name, knew the confusion in his heart.

Arriving at the laboratory, Boswell heard about Tian Xingjian’s vacation plans to go back to the capital and, without looking up, said, ”The academy is about to start. This is the first batch of students since the war. Some students who haven’t graduated will also return to school gradually. We don’t have enough professors. I have recommended you as my assistant. There are many things to do; the sooner you go, the sooner you return.”

Being a professor myself—hell, that’s a fresh concept—wouldn’t that harm those kids’ futures? Fatty thought, feeling ironic, as Boswell’s wild ideas seemed even more outrageous than his own.

Too lazy to argue with this unsocial old man, Fatty turned and went to Milan’s lab. His feelings were complicated for this girl who had silently supported him most of the time.

Fatty liked Milan. Her beauty, both in appearance and figure, was unmatched in the entire academy. Even when angry, she had a certain gentle charm. Most importantly, Milan’s purity and kindness made her like a delicate white flower on the smoky battlefield, pure and fragile, with an indescribable fondness for him.

This fondness was partly the result of Fatty experimenting with pick-up psychology on Milan for a long time, but mostly it was the genuine and strong affection formed in the turmoil of war. Milan relied on Tian Xingjian and supported him. Whenever Fatty thought of Milan’s research proposals on [Logic], he felt warm inside.

Gently pushing open the laboratory door again, suddenly, a loud synthetic electronic voice rang, ”Fatty is here! Fatty is here!”

Tian Xingjian looked at Milan, who proudly wrinkled her nose at him, feeling amused and helpless. Damn, this battle of voyeurism and anti-voyeurism had entered the technological age.

”Why did you make this thing? What if a teacher hears it when they come in?” Fatty’s lewd intentions were practically written on his face, yet he tried to appear dignified.

Milan giggled, using her slender fingers to knock on Fatty’s head, ”Who else besides you, Fatty, dares to enter the lab without knocking?”

Ah, I love hearing that, Fatty thought, feeling very accomplished.

[Logic] had been moved back to the lab and stood in its designated spot. Every time Fatty walked into the lab and saw Milan and [Logic], he felt at ease and comfortable.

”Fatty, in a few days [Logic] will have new mecha computers!” Milan started bustling around again. Seeing Tian Xingjian made her very happy.

Standing behind Milan for a long while, Tian Xingjian hesitated and then said softly, ”Milan, I have taken leave and want to go to the capital to see someone. I’ll be away for a while.”

Milan turned her head, looking at Fatty oddly, and said, ”Someone? When did Meiduo and Nia become one person?” This girl was jealous. Fatty laughed and said, ”I’m not going to see them. I’m meeting someone very important to me.”

Milan smiled sweetly, ”Fool, who cares who you meet.”

She gently placed her hands on Tian Xingjian’s face, softly saying, ”Since you rarely have a vacation to go back, rest more. Look at yourself.” Ever since learning of Mr. Ann’s death, Tian Xingjian had indeed looked a bit haggard.

Seeing Milan’s worried expression, Tian Xingjian couldn’t help but kiss her on the cheek. Milan’s face flushed red as she pushed the laughing Fatty away, turning around to pretend she was busy with her research work.

As Fatty reached the door, he suddenly heard Milan say softly, ”Say hello to Nia for me when you see her.”

Fatty felt a severe internal injury, a bitterness in his throat, nearly breaking his teeth to resist the urge to vomit blood, fleeing like a raccoon beaten mercilessly.

He finally boarded the transport ship back to the capital. Looking at the bustling scene at the airport, Tian Xingjian almost doubted the reality of being on Miloke Star, which had been ravaged by war. Humanity’s recovery power was immense.

The transport ship slowly ascended, and the ground outside the porthole grew smaller. Miloke Planet appeared microscopic, with people bustling around like ants. The planet was rapidly coming back to life.

After a two-day journey, the transport ship landed at Guardian Airport in the Capital Lutered City. This airport didn’t initially have this name, but it was officially inaugurated due to the war outbreak, named to meet political needs at the time.

The airport was vast, capable of accommodating hundreds of giant transport ships or tens of thousands of medium-sized transport ships simultaneously. Following the crowd into the airport hall, Tian Xingjian stood on the conveyor belt, looking at the transparent wall of alloy structure outside, feeling a bit unfamiliar with Leray’s capital. He originally lived here for nearly twenty years, but a year of war made him feel like a lifetime had passed.
