Chapter 257, Resisting the Beast Tide

Translator: Silavin

At this time, the Eight Millennial Families regretted not believing Qin Yichen’s words earlier – things would not have been so urgent if they had.

However, the Eight Millennial Families were not Families that had stood for at least a thousand years for nothing. After gathering their experts, they rushed to hold the third line of defense, and only then barely managed to slow down the Demonic Beast Army’s offensive.

Worse, this was just the vanguard of the Demonic Beast Army. If the real Demonic Beast Army surged forward, the third line of defense would likely fall in a single morning.

Various kingdoms within the Central Province also sent experts and armies to garrison the third line of defense. After all, this was the lifeline of the entire Northern Region!

The third line of defense was tens of thousands of meters long, hundreds of meters high, and dozens of meters thick – completely incomparable to ordinary city walls.

The third line of defense was also the most solid defensive line. Every stone block in it was made of the hardest granite, and the walls were reinforced with cast iron. But now, shocking cracks had appeared in the metal-hard granite.

Before the defensive line, thick-skinned Rhinoceros-like Demonic Beasts repeatedly charged with reckless disregard for death, making the entire ground tremble.

Boiling oil was constantly poured from the high walls, but it still could not stop these Demonic Beasts’ advance.

Behind the Rhinoceros-like Demonic Beasts was a dark mass of wolf packs, their ghostly eyes glowing like demon pupils in the night, which was especially horrifying.

On the walls, tens of thousands of experts were densely packed, mostly Martial Masters and Martial Grandmasters.

At one corner of the wall, Qin Yichen’s face was ice-cold, with a trace of shock in his dark eyes. This was his first time seeing the Ten Thousand Beast Tide. Its spectacular scale made his scalp tingle.

Looking at the many experts on the wall who were pale with fear, Qin Yichen sighed inwardly. [The Ten Thousand Beast Tide came too sudden. By the time everyone managed to react to it, only the last line of defense remained…]

[When these Demonic Beasts break through the wall, the entire Thousand Mist Empire will suffer a devastating blow…] Looking at the cracks appearing in the wall and thinking of the consequences, Qin Yichen could not help but feel a chill in his heart.

On a high section at the wall’s center, the Patriarchs of the Eight Millennial Families all wore extremely grave expressions.

“Why has this Ten Thousand Beast Tide come so early?”

The An Family Patriarch’s expression was extremely gloomy. From the assembled forces, their An Family only had two Partially Accomplished Spirit Realm experts. This showed how far they had fallen behind the other Seven Families.

The other Seven Millennial Families had each sent at least five Partially Accomplished Spirit Realm experts, while the most powerful Zhao Family and Huyuan Family each had a Fully Accomplished Spirit Realm expert!

The other Patriarchs seemed to deliberately ignore the An Family Patriarch’s words. After all, they were all very clear about the irreconcilable conflict between the An Family and Qin Yichen.

Qin Yichen and the Soaring Joy Chamber Of Commerce’s potential now exceeded the An Family’s. Thus, they wanted to avoid getting on Qin Yichen’s bad side.

“Have no experts from the Capital arrived yet? What about the other four regions?” The Zhao Family Patriarch frowned. It would be too difficult to resist the Ten Thousand Beast Tide with just their forces.

“Just received news that Elder Yang set out three days ago. He should arrive soon enough.”

The Huyuan Family Patriarch, who was responsible for communicating with the Capital, said.

“Elder Yang? He’s actually coming?” Hearing the name Yang Quan, reverence flashed in all the Patriarchs’ eyes.

*Boom! Boom!*

During their conversation, the wall beneath their feet shook violently again. Visible cracks spread across the wall like spider webs. It was fortunate that this last line of defense was built more robust than the other walls. Even with countless cracks, the dozens of meters thick wall could still hold for some time.

“These are just their vanguards, we can’t let them continue attacking like this!” The Zhao Family Patriarch’s brows were tightly knitted. The Patriarchs looked at each other and nodded, fierce determination flashing in their eyes.

“Give the order. We need to attack proactively!” With the Zhao Family Patriarch’s roar, hot blood surged in the tens of thousands of experts on the wall.

“Kill all these beasts!”

“Protect our homeland! Charge!”

Experts raised their weapons high, and a tide of battle cries rose from the wall. The shouts spread like a chain reaction, converging into a flood of roars that actually drowned out the Demonic Beasts’ howls below.

None who dared come here were cowards fearing death – this scene made countless people’s blood boil!

Immediately, countless people stood on the wall and climbed down ropes toward the ground. The pouring of oil from the walls stopped as support personnel hurriedly prepared anti-siege equipment.

“Kill!” Qin Yichen also shouted loudly, his form leaping down from the wall like a bird, with the experts recruited by the Soaring Joy Chamber Of Commerce following closely behind.

“Qin…” Seeing Qin Yichen’s action, the Zhao Family Patriarch’s pupils suddenly contracted, wanting to stop him, but the latter had already disappeared from the wall.

“Ignorant fool, such arrogance – if the fall doesn’t kill him, he’ll be trampled to death by the Demonic Beasts!” Seeing Qin Yichen’s action, joy flashed in the An Family Patriarch’s eyes as he secretly cursed.

“Kill!” Soon, the first wave of experts reached the base of the wall. Immediately, cold glints flashed as attacks infused with mighty Yuan Energy chopped at the Demonic Beasts ramming the wall.

*Boom!*

*Roar!*

Caught by surprise, some of the Rhinoceros-like Demonic Beasts were immediately cut down.

“Charge!”

“Kill!”

As more and more experts leaped down, they soon slaughtered all the Demonic Beasts around the wall.

*Roar!*

*Howl!*

However, this only caught the Demonic Beasts off guard for a moment. Soon, they all reacted. Behind the Rhinoceros-like Demonic Beasts, countless Wolves-like Demonic Beasts, their eyes fierce and murderous auras like a flood, charged toward the Human experts.

Soon, these Human experts were locked in battle with countless Demonic Beasts. Blood sprayed everywhere, accompanied by tragic screams and anguished beast roars – the scene was extremely brutal.

Among these Human forces, the most impressive were the teams led by the Eight Millennial Families. Led by Spirit Realm experts, Martial Grandmasters quickly tore open gaps in the Demonic Beast Army.

Slightly less impressive than them were not the kingdom forces or powerful mercenary groups, but surprisingly the experts recruited by the Soaring Joy Chamber Of Commerce.

Though their speed in killing Demonic Beasts was slightly slower than the Eight Millennial Families, they seemed to fight without fear of death, constantly battling within the Beast Tide.

After receiving minor wounds, they immediately took out extremely high quality healing Pills to consume.

Seeing this, many experts secretly felt pain in their hearts. The Soaring Joy Chamber Of Commerce was too extravagant – using such high quality healing Pills for such minor injuries.
