Yandere Stream

The laughter did not disappear when the screen turned white.

Instead, it lingered in the air around them, soft and distant, like an echo that refused to fade. It was not the laughter of a villain revealing himself from the shadows, nor the mocking amusement of someone who had already won. It was quieter than that, almost gentle. Somehow, that made it infinitely more unsettling. The sound seemed to exist everywhere at once, slipping between the suspended pages, drifting through the endless white space, and settling deep beneath Eden’s skin.

Nobody moved.

Eden stood frozen with Aria beside him, her hand still clasped tightly around his. The little girl remained several feet away, staring at the blank screen. For the first time since he had met her, all traces of confidence had vanished from her face. She looked genuinely afraid.

That frightened Eden more than the laughter itself.

He had watched her face impossible truths without hesitation. He had seen her walk through collapsing worlds, confront Readers, Authors, and forgotten stories. Nothing had ever shaken her before.

Now she looked terrified.

”Who is that?” Eden asked quietly.

The girl didn’t answer.

”Hey.”

Still nothing.

Her eyes remained fixed on the white screen as if looking away would somehow make things worse.

Beside him, Aria tightened her grip on his hand.

”Eden,” she whispered.

He turned toward her.

”Don’t ask her.”

”Why?”

Aria swallowed.

”Because I don’t think she knows.”

The laughter came again.

This time it was closer.

Not physically closer, but clearer. More distinct.

Eden immediately turned toward the sound.

There was nothing there.

Only endless white.

Then a shadow appeared.

It wasn’t attached to anything. No person stood nearby. No object cast it. It simply existed several feet away, dark against the impossible brightness of the room.

Eden stared.

The shadow stretched.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Moving across the floor toward them.

Aria immediately pulled him backward.

The little girl stepped forward at the same time, placing herself directly between them and the advancing darkness.

”Don’t.”

Her voice was barely audible.

The shadow stopped.

For several seconds, silence returned.

Then something moved inside the darkness.

A hand emerged.

Small.

Pale.

Childlike.

It pressed against the edge of the shadow as though the darkness itself were a curtain waiting to be pulled aside.

Eden’s heart slammed against his ribs.

He knew that hand.

Not because he had seen it before.

Because he remembered it.

The realization struck so suddenly that it stole his breath.

A memory surfaced.

A child sitting alone in a dark room.

A blank sheet of paper resting on a desk.

A pencil clutched in small fingers.

Someone asking a question.

Eden closed his eyes as the memory returned with startling force.

He was young.

Far younger than any version of himself he remembered.

There had been no hospital.

No Luna.

No Aria.

No stories.

No grief.

No endless layers.

Only a frightened child hiding beneath a desk.

Outside the room, voices drifted through the air.

A woman’s voice spoke first.

Soft.

Patient.

Gentle.

”Why are you hiding?”

The child didn’t answer.

”Come out.”

Silence.

”You don’t have to be afraid.”

Then another voice.

A man’s.

Older.

Calmer.

”Let him stay.”

The memory shattered.

Eden’s eyes opened.

He was back in the white room.

Aria was staring at him.

”You remembered something.”

”Yeah.”

”What was it?”

Eden couldn’t stop looking at the shadow.

”I was a child.”

Aria frowned.

”You’ve remembered your childhood before.”

”No.”

He shook his head slowly.

”Not like this.”

The certainty in his voice surprised even him.

He took a cautious step forward.

”I remember being there before I knew what a story was.”

The little girl immediately turned toward him.

”Eden.”

There was panic in her voice.

He looked down at her.

”What?”

”You weren’t supposed to remember that.”

The statement hit him harder than expected.

”Why?”

The girl’s face paled.

”Because it wasn’t yours.”

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Eden stared at her.

Then he asked the question that immediately came to mind.

”Whose was it?”

The girl didn’t answer.

Before she could, the hand inside the shadow slowly withdrew.

The darkness folded inward.

The shape collapsed into itself.

Then someone stepped through.

Eden stopped breathing.

The figure was a child.

A boy.

Perhaps seven years old.

He had messy dark hair, bare feet, and an oversized shirt that hung loosely from his shoulders. He looked thin, almost fragile.

But it wasn’t his appearance that unsettled Eden.

It was his eyes.

The boy had the eyes of someone who had already seen too much.

The eyes of someone who carried memories no child should possess.

The boy looked directly at Eden.

Then he smiled.

”You finally remembered me.”

The room seemed to tilt.

Aria immediately stepped forward.

”Who are you?”

The boy ignored her completely.

His attention never left Eden.

”You used to visit me.”

Eden frowned.

”I’ve never seen you before.”

The boy laughed softly.

”You don’t remember because you weren’t supposed to.”

The little girl whispered something.

A name.

Or perhaps a title.

Whatever it was, hearing it made Eden’s blood run cold.

The boy sighed.

”That’s not my name.”

The girl looked away.

”What is your name, then?” Eden asked.

The boy smiled sadly.

”You never gave me one.”

Something tightened painfully inside Eden’s chest.

The answer felt important.

Far more important than it should have.

Without another word, the boy walked toward the computer.

As he passed, every page suspended in the white space reacted.

Some flipped backward.

Others tore themselves apart.

Several simply vanished.

The room itself seemed uncertain about how to respond to his presence.

The boy stopped beside the blank screen.

”You were supposed to write the next page.”

Eden stepped forward.

”I tried.”

”No.”

The boy glanced over his shoulder.

”You wrote a sentence.”

Eden frowned.

”What’s the difference?”

The boy placed a hand against the computer.

”A sentence tells the story what happened.”

Then he looked directly at Eden.

”A page tells the story why.”

The answer silenced him.

The boy continued.

”You keep trying to control what happens next.”

He pointed at the screen.

”That’s why the page rejected you.”

Eden glanced toward the blank document.

”So what am I supposed to write?”

”The truth.”

A humorless laugh escaped him.

”After everything I’ve seen, you think I know what the truth is?”

The boy’s smile faded.

”No.”

His eyes became serious.

”That’s why you’re finally ready.”

He touched the screen.

Words appeared instantly.

EDEN DID NOT WRITE THE FIRST STORY.

A second line followed.

EDEN DID NOT DISCOVER THE FIRST STORY.

Then a third.

EDEN WAS INSIDE IT.

Eden stared.

The room felt unsteady beneath his feet.

”No.”

The boy nodded.

”You’ve been looking at the beginning from the outside.”

He stepped aside.

”You were never outside.”

The screen changed again.

Images replaced the words.

Memories.

Eden watched himself as a child.

Sitting beneath a desk.

Holding a notebook.

Drawing pictures.

Growing older.

The scenes flashed rapidly.

Luna.

Aria.

His father.

The hospital.

The house.

The endless stories.

Every stage of his life appeared for only a moment before another replaced it.

Then Eden noticed something wrong.

Someone else was always there.

In every memory.

Sometimes standing behind him.

Sometimes sitting nearby.

Sometimes reflected in a window.

Sometimes visible only as a shadow.

Yet every time the younger Eden turned around—

nobody was there.

Aria noticed it too.

”Who’s that?”

The boy didn’t answer.

The images stopped.

A single memory remained.

A little boy sitting at a desk.

A blank notebook open before him.

A pencil resting in his hand.

Someone standing behind him.

Watching.

The boy beside them spoke quietly.

”That’s where it began.”

Eden’s pulse quickened.

He knew this memory.

Not vaguely.

Not as a possibility.

He remembered it.

”I was writing.”

”What were you writing?” Aria asked.

”I don’t know.”

He pressed his fingers against his forehead.

Then the memory opened completely.

The little boy hadn’t been writing a story.

He had been drawing.

A door.

Nothing more.

A simple wooden door.

Behind it, he had drawn a room filled entirely with darkness.

The child had stared at the drawing for a long time.

Then he had written a single sentence beneath it.

What if someone is already there?

Eden’s eyes widened.

Everything disappeared.

For a brief moment, he was there again.

Back before Luna.

Before Aria.

Before the accident.

Before grief.

Before stories.

Before everything.

He remembered.

The child had been staring at the drawing when he heard a knock.

Three times.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

The boy had looked at the door he drew.

And then the drawing changed.

The door slowly opened.

Something inside the darkness looked back.

Eden’s eyes snapped open.

The computer screen had gone black.

One sentence remained.

YOU WERE THE ONE WHO LOOKED FIRST.

The realization hit him like a physical blow.

The first Reader had never been the little girl.

It had never been Aria.

It had never been the endless audience.

It had never been another world.

It had been him.

Not the Eden who remembered Luna.

Not the Eden who spent years chasing impossible endings.

Not the Eden who wrote stories to escape loss.

The first Eden.

A lonely child who drew a door because he wondered what might exist beyond it.

A child who looked into possibility before anyone taught him what impossible meant.

A child who unknowingly became the first Reader.

And something had answered.

The lights returned.

The boy was gone.

The little girl was gone.

Only Eden and Aria remained.

For several moments neither spoke.

Finally, Eden looked toward the computer.

The page was blank again.

Waiting.

But something had changed.

A title now appeared at the top of the document.

THE FIRST QUESTION

Beneath it, the cursor blinked patiently.

Eden walked to the desk and sat down.

This time he didn’t think about saving Luna.

He didn’t think about rescuing Aria.

He didn’t think about escaping the layers of reality.

Instead, he thought about a frightened child hiding beneath a desk.

A lonely child who drew a door because he wanted to know if someone else existed.

A child who asked a question.

A child who looked into darkness and waited for an answer.

Slowly, Eden placed his fingers on the keyboard.

Then he began to type.

Before Eden ever became a character, he was a question.

The cursor moved.

The room trembled.

He continued.

And before there was a story, something answered.

The moment he finished, reality cracked.

Thin black fractures spread across the white space.

One became ten.

Ten became hundreds.

The room splintered apart.

Aria grabbed his shoulder.

”Eden.”

He stood.

”What?”

She pointed upward.

Something enormous was opening in the darkness above them.

An eye.

Not the Reader.

Not the audience.

Something older.

Something impossibly ancient.

And impossibly close.

A voice emerged from beyond it.

Not angry.

Not threatening.

Only curious.

”You finally remembered.”

Eden stared upward.

The voice continued.

”Now tell me, little Reader...”

The eye opened completely.

”...why did you look?”

A chill passed through him.

Because suddenly he understood.

Whatever answer he gave would not determine the next page.

It would determine why the story had ever begun at all.
