Yandere Stream

Eden stood in front of the open door for what felt like an eternity. The voice on the other side had stopped laughing, and somehow that made everything worse. He stared into the darkness beyond the threshold, trying to understand what he was looking at. There was no room on the other side, no corridor, no white space, and no hospital. The darkness simply continued, stretching farther than his eyes could follow. Yet something was there. He could feel it waiting. The voice had called him by name, but not the way the Authors had and not the way the Readers had. It sounded different. Personal. Like someone who had known him long before Eden had ever learned there were other layers to reality.

He stepped forward, and the moment his foot crossed the threshold, the room behind him disappeared. There was no transition. One second he was standing among hundreds of books, and the next he was standing inside a small bedroom. Eden froze immediately because he knew this room. The faded blue walls, the wooden desk near the window, the old bookshelf with one crooked leg, and the small bed pushed against the wall were all exactly as he remembered. There was even a crack in the corner of the ceiling. It was his childhood bedroom. Yet something felt wrong. It looked too exact, as if every detail had been reconstructed from memory without a single flaw. The desk, the books, the old lamp, and even the scratch on the floor where his father had once dragged a chair across the wood were perfectly preserved.

Eden slowly approached the desk where a notebook rested on top. He didn’t need to open it because he already knew what it contained, but he opened it anyway. The first page was blank. The second was blank as well. The third contained a single sentence: Eden was born here. He frowned and turned the page. Eden grew up here. Another page read: Eden met Luna. The next said: Eden lost Luna. Then came: Eden created stories. He continued turning pages as the entries became more recent. His first story, his first death, the white room, the Readers, the Authors, Aria, the hospital—everything was written down. Every event of his life had been recorded. Then he reached the final page, and this one was different. There was no narration. Only a question.

Do you want to know who wrote it?

Eden stared at the page. His first instinct was to close the notebook and walk away, but instead he found himself whispering, ”Yes.”

The room changed instantly. The walls vanished, and the floor beneath his feet became transparent. Looking down, Eden saw an endless ocean of pages stretching beneath him. Thousands, millions, perhaps billions of pages spread into infinity, layered over one another like an impossible sea. In the center of that endless expanse sat a man at a desk. One hand held a pen while the other rested on an open book. Eden’s heart began pounding as the man slowly turned around.

His breath caught in his throat.

It was him.

Not an older version. Not a younger version. Not another possibility. It was him in every detail, from the scars on his face to the small mark beneath his chin from an accident he barely remembered. Eden took a step backward as the other Eden smiled.

”You’re finally here.”

Eden stared at him. ”You.”

”Me.”

”You’ve been reading everything.”

”Yes.”

”You’ve been controlling everything.”

The other Eden shook his head. ”No.”

Eden’s expression hardened. ”Don’t lie to me.”

”I’m not.” The man placed the pen on the desk and folded his hands together. ”I’ve been reading you.”

”Then you’re the Author.”

”No.”

”The First Reader?”

”No.”

”Then what are you?”

The other Eden looked almost amused. ”You’re asking the wrong question.”

Eden clenched his fists. ”I’ve heard that answer enough times. Every time I get close to the truth, someone tells me I’m looking at the wrong layer. Someone tells me there’s another world above this one, another Author, another Reader.” He stepped closer, frustration spilling into his voice. ”I’m tired of layers.”

”So am I.”

The answer caught Eden off guard. The man stood from his chair, and for the first time Eden noticed something strange. He wasn’t perfect. His clothes were wrinkled, his hair was messy, and exhaustion hung beneath his eyes. He looked like someone who hadn’t slept properly in years, someone who had spent too much time staring at a screen in the middle of the night and forgotten what sunlight felt like. Eden knew that expression because he had worn it himself.

”What happened to you?” Eden asked.

The other Eden looked toward the endless ocean of pages. ”I kept reading.”

”Reading what?”

”You.”

Eden felt his stomach tighten. ”Why?”

The man remained silent for several seconds before finally answering. ”Because I wanted to know if you would make it.”

”Make it where?”

”Here.” He gestured toward the ocean of pages. ”The place where the story stops pretending.”

Eden looked around. ”And what happens when it stops pretending?”

The other Eden smiled faintly. ”You get to choose.”

”Choose what?”

”Whether you want to keep being a character.”

Eden’s eyes narrowed. ”Or?”

”Become the reader.”

Silence settled between them. Eden’s gaze drifted toward the book resting on the desk.

”That’s what the television meant.”

”Yes.”

”You made me the Reader.”

”No.”

”Then who did?”

The other Eden looked directly into his eyes. ”You did.”

Eden frowned. ”What?”

”You’ve been reading your own story for longer than you realize.”

He pushed the book across the desk. Eden looked down. His name was gone from the cover. In its place was a single word.

READER

Slowly, Eden opened it. The first page showed Luna sitting beside him. The next showed Aria as a child. Then came his father, the hospital, the white room, the creature, the First Reader, and everything else he had experienced. But something else caught his attention. At the bottom of every page was the same line.

The reader chose to continue.

Eden flipped backward through the book. The sentence appeared again. And again. Every page ended the same way.

The reader chose to continue.

He looked up sharply. ”What does this mean?”

The other Eden didn’t answer.

”Tell me.”

”You already know.”

”I don’t.”

”You just don’t want to admit it.”

Eden slammed the book shut. ”I didn’t choose any of this.”

”You chose to keep reading.”

”I was trying to find my family.”

”You chose to keep reading.”

”I wanted Luna back.”

”You chose to keep reading.”

”I wanted Aria.”

The other Eden’s expression softened. ”I know.”

Some of the anger drained out of Eden. The man walked around the desk and stopped in front of him.

”You thought every time you woke up you were escaping the story. You thought every new layer was another prison, but you were never being dragged forward.” He paused and looked directly at Eden. ”You kept opening the next door.”

Eden turned toward the darkness behind him. The doorway was gone. Only the endless ocean of pages remained.

”Why?”

”Because you weren’t ready to stop.”

Eden felt his eyes burn. ”Stop what?”

”Looking for her.”

He knew immediately who the man meant.

Luna.

For a moment, Eden couldn’t speak. When he finally found his voice, it came out as little more than a whisper.

”She’s dead.”

”Yes.”

”Aria?”

”Alive.”

”Somewhere?”

”Somewhere.”

”Then take me to her.”

The other Eden shook his head. ”I can’t.”

”Why?”

”Because you’re still thinking like a character.”

Eden stared at him as the man pointed toward the book.

”Characters follow stories.” Then he pointed at Eden. ”Readers decide whether the story continues.”

Eden looked down. The book slowly opened by itself, revealing a blank page. At the top were three names.

LUNA.

ARIA.

EDEN.

Beneath each name sat an empty box.

Eden’s breathing became uneven. ”What is this?”

”Your choice.”

”Choice between what?”

The other Eden stepped away from the desk. ”You can choose Luna.”

The first box filled with light.

”You can choose Aria.”

The second box began glowing.

”Or you can choose yourself.”

The third remained dark.

Eden stared at it. ”What’s the difference?”

”If you choose Luna, you’ll enter her story.” The first box brightened even more. ”You won’t remember this place. You’ll forget the Readers, the Authors, the hospital—everything. You’ll live with her again.”

Eden stared at the glowing box.

”And Aria?”

”If you choose Aria, you’ll find her. But Luna will remain gone.”

Eden swallowed hard.

”And myself?”

The third box finally began glowing.

”If you choose yourself...” The other Eden paused before finishing. ”...the story ends.”

Eden looked at him carefully.

”Ends?”

”No more worlds.”

”No more versions?”

”No.”

”No more reincarnations?”

”No.”

”No more chances?”

”No.”

Eden looked down at the three choices. Luna. Aria. Himself. For years he had believed the hardest thing in his existence was death. Now he was beginning to understand that it wasn’t. The hardest thing was deciding who deserved to live when he couldn’t save everyone.

His hand slowly moved toward the page.

Then a voice echoed across the endless ocean.

”Dad.”

Eden froze.

The other Eden looked up as the pages beneath them began trembling.

”Dad!”

Eden turned. A figure was running across the ocean of pages toward them. She looked around twenty-six years old, with dark hair and tears in her eyes.

Aria.

She stopped several feet away.

Eden couldn’t move.

”Aria...”

She smiled through her tears. ”You took forever.”

He rushed forward and pulled her into a tight embrace. He held her so tightly his arms hurt. Aria buried her face against his shoulder.

”I thought I lost you.”

”You did.”

Eden pulled back immediately. ”What?”

”For a while.”

She wiped her eyes before glancing toward the other Eden, who had already returned to his desk.

Her expression became serious.

”Dad, you can’t choose yet.”

Eden frowned. ”Why?”

”Because those aren’t the real choices.”

The room fell silent.

The other Eden stopped moving.

Eden slowly turned toward him.

”What did she just say?”

The other Eden didn’t answer.

Aria stepped closer. ”He’s lying to you.”

Eden’s eyes narrowed.

”Why?”

”Because he isn’t the one reading you.”

For the first time, the other Eden looked genuinely uncomfortable.

Aria pointed upward into the endless darkness.

”He’s being read too.”

Eden’s blood ran cold.

The other Eden’s face changed instantly. Fear appeared in his eyes for the first time.

Then every page beneath them turned at once.

A sound like thunder rolled through the endless space.

The book on the desk slammed shut, and new words appeared across its cover.

THE READER HAS BEEN FOUND.

A second sentence appeared beneath it.

THE STORY HAS BEEN FOUND.

Then a final line appeared.

NOW FIND THE PERSON HOLDING THE BOOK.

Eden slowly looked upward.

Something moved in the darkness.

A silhouette.

Then a human hand emerged from above and reached down through the endless layers of pages. The other Eden stood frozen in place while Aria grabbed Eden’s hand.

”Dad...”

Eden stared at the hand descending from above. Then he heard a voice. It wasn’t Luna’s, Aria’s, or his own. It sounded distant, as though it belonged to someone sitting comfortably in a chair while turning a page.

”Interesting.”

The hand lowered further until its fingers touched the surface of the story itself. The entire world went still.

Then the voice whispered,

”I finally found where you were hiding, Eden.”

The page beneath their feet cracked, and something began pulling the entire story upward.
