Yandere Stream

Eden forgot how to breathe.

Luna stood on the other side of the darkness. She wasn’t a copy, nor the imitation that had been waiting behind the door, and she wasn’t a memory wearing a familiar face. She simply stood there, looking at him. Her dark hair fell loosely around her shoulders, her eyes were red as though she had been crying for a long time, and her expression carried the kind of exhaustion Eden had seen only once before—on the worst day of his life.

He took one step toward her. ”Luna.”

She smiled. It was small, almost broken. ”Hi, Eden.”

His knees weakened. Every part of him wanted to run to her, but he remembered the girl in the bedroom. He remembered the thing wearing Aria’s face, the warning, and how easily something could use a memory against him. So he stopped.

Luna noticed immediately. Her smile faded as she looked at him. ”You don’t believe I’m real.”

Eden swallowed hard. ”I don’t know what’s real anymore.”

She nodded slowly. ”I understand.”

”Are you Luna?”

She looked down before answering. ”Yes.”

”Which Luna?”

The question hurt her. Eden saw it immediately. She looked away for a moment before finally speaking. ”The one who met you.”

His chest tightened. ”The real one?”

She didn’t answer. Eden’s voice became quieter. ”Please.”

Luna looked at him. ”I’m the Luna who existed before you started writing.”

Eden froze.

The First Author stood behind him, silent. Eden turned toward him. ”You said she was a possibility.”

”She was.”

Luna looked at the Author. ”And then he found me.”

The Author lowered his eyes.

Eden looked back at Luna. ”Who found you?”

”You.”

Eden frowned. ”What?”

”You found me before you knew you were looking.”

She stepped forward. ”I wasn’t supposed to exist. Neither was Aria. You wrote possibilities when you were young, and then you grew up and forgot them.”

Eden’s mind raced. ”But I met you.”

”Yes.”

”How?”

Luna smiled sadly. ”Because you spent your entire life walking toward a story you had already written.”

The words struck him hard. He remembered the first time he had seen her. He remembered thinking it had simply been luck—a chance meeting, a random conversation, a coincidence. What if it hadn’t been?

”What happened when I met you?”

Luna’s expression softened. ”You didn’t recognize me.”

”I didn’t?”

”No.”

She laughed quietly. ”You thought I was a stranger.”

Eden almost smiled. ”I was an idiot.”

”You were.”

The warmth in her voice nearly destroyed him. For a moment, everything else disappeared. There was no Author, no Readers, no impossible rooms. There was only Luna.

Then Eden noticed something. She wasn’t looking at him. She was looking past him, toward the place where the First Author had been standing.

Eden turned.

The Author was gone.

”Luna.”

She looked back.

”Where did he go?”

”I don’t know.”

Eden narrowed his eyes. ”You do.”

”I know some things.”

”Then tell me.”

She hesitated. ”He was afraid you’d remember.”

”Remember what?”

Luna’s eyes filled with tears. ”The night you wrote me.”

Eden’s heart sank. ”I was ten.”

”Yes.”

”You were already in my head.”

”I wasn’t a person yet.”

She wiped a tear from her cheek. ”You wrote about someone you wanted to love.”

Eden stared.

”You wrote that she would be stubborn.” A faint smile touched her lips. ”That she’d argue with you over stupid things.” Another smile followed. ”That she’d make you feel safe.”

Eden couldn’t speak.

”And you wrote that she would have a daughter.”

His eyes widened. ”Aria.”

Luna nodded. ”You didn’t know her name then.”

”But I wrote her.”

”Yes.”

Eden looked down. ”Why?”

Luna stepped closer. ”Because you were lonely.”

The simplicity of it hurt.

”You weren’t imagining a wife because you wanted romance.” She shook her head. ”You were imagining a family because you were afraid you would never have one.”

Eden’s eyes burned. ”I did have one.”

”You did.”

”And I lost it.”

Luna didn’t answer.

Eden looked at her. ”Did I really lose you?”

She stared at him for a long time before answering. ”Yes. But not the way you remember.”

Eden went still. ”What does that mean?”

Luna took a slow breath. ”You died first.”

Eden frowned. ”What?”

”You were dying when I died.”

”I remember.”

”No.”

Her voice became firmer. ”You remember the version of events you wrote afterward.”

Eden stared at her.

Luna continued quietly. ”The accident happened. Aria died. I died.”

Eden closed his eyes.

”And then you died.”

He opened them again. ”Yes.”

Luna shook her head. ”No.”

She looked directly into his eyes. ”You didn’t die.”

Eden’s face went blank.

”You survived.”

His heart began pounding. ”You survived the accident?”

”Then why don’t I remember?”

”Because you didn’t survive yourself.”

Eden didn’t understand.

Luna reached for his hand. This time he allowed her. Her hand was warm—real, or at least real enough.

”You survived physically,” she said as she squeezed his fingers. ”But when you woke up and realized we were gone, something inside you refused to continue.”

Eden stared at their hands.

”You created the first world.”

”Yes.”

”You went into it.”

”Yes.”

”And then?”

”You never came back.”

Eden’s breathing slowed. ”What do you mean?”

”You were still alive in the real world.”

She looked into his eyes.

”But you stopped living there.”

Eden’s stomach turned.

”You spent the rest of your life inside stories.”

”No.”

”Yes.”

”I died.”

”You believed you died.”

Luna’s eyes filled with tears again. ”But you didn’t.”

Eden stepped backward. The world seemed to tilt beneath his feet.

”If I’m still alive...”

He looked around.

”Where am I?”

Luna didn’t answer.

”Eden.”

”Where am I?”

She whispered, ”You’re still in the hospital.”

Everything went silent.

Eden stared at her.

”The entire story...”

”Was happening in your mind.”

”The worlds.”

”Yes.”

”The monsters.”

”Some were your fears.”

”The Readers.”

”Some were your memories.”

”The Witnesses.”

”Some were people you couldn’t understand.”

”The Author.”

Luna’s eyes softened. ”Some of him was you.”

Eden looked at his hands. They had begun shaking.

”No.”

”You’ve been unconscious for a long time.”

”How long?”

Luna hesitated.

”Twenty years.”

Eden’s face went pale.

”Twenty... years?”

She nodded.

Eden laughed quietly. It sounded broken.

”Then Aria...”

”Would be twenty-six.”

He closed his eyes.

Twenty-six.

His daughter would be twenty-six if she had survived.

But she hadn’t.

At least, he thought she hadn’t.

Then Luna said something that made him look up.

”She did.”

Eden froze.

”What?”

”Aria survived.”

He stared at her.

”No.”

”She survived.”

”She died.”

”That’s what you remember.”

”You’re lying.”

”I wish I was.”

Eden stepped toward her.

”Where is she?”

Luna didn’t answer.

”Luna.”

She looked away.

”Where is my daughter?”

A voice answered from behind him.

”Dad?”

Eden stopped breathing.

He didn’t turn. He was afraid to. Terrified.

Because he knew that voice.

Not the voice of the six-year-old girl.

Not the imitation.

This voice was older.

Twenty-six years old.

A woman’s voice he had never heard before and yet recognized instantly.

Eden slowly turned.

The little boy was gone.

The First Reader was gone.

Standing in the doorway was a young woman. She had Aria’s eyes, Luna’s smile, and Eden’s expression.

She stared at him while tears ran down her cheeks.

”Dad.”

Eden couldn’t move.

The woman took a trembling step forward.

”I’ve been looking for you.”

Eden’s lips parted.

”Aria?”

She nodded.

”Yes.”

He stared at her. She was real. Older. Changed. Alive.

His daughter.

Eden covered his mouth as twenty years of imagined lives collapsed inside a single second.

Aria walked toward him. He expected her to run into his arms, but instead she stopped a few feet away because she was crying too hard.

”You don’t remember me.”

Eden shook his head.

”I do.”

”No.”

”I do.”

”You remember the six-year-old.”

Eden looked at her.

Aria smiled through her tears. ”But I’m not six anymore.”

He couldn’t answer.

She stepped closer.

”I waited for you.”

Eden’s heart broke.

”I know.”

”You kept coming back.”

”I know.”

”Every time you created another world, I could see you.”

Eden stared.

”You were watching?”

Aria nodded.

”I became the Reader.”

Eden finally understood. The boy. The Reader. The warnings. The stories.

Aria had been there all along.

Not to torment him.

To find him.

”I couldn’t pull you out,” she whispered. ”So I learned how to read.”

Eden looked at Luna and then back at Aria.

”Why didn’t you tell me?”

”I tried.”

”When?”

Aria smiled sadly.

”Every story.”

Eden’s eyes filled with tears.

”But you never listened.”

He lowered his head.

”I’m sorry.”

Aria stepped forward.

This time, Eden didn’t hesitate.

He pulled her into his arms.

She broke completely, clutching the back of his shirt as she cried against his chest. Eden held her like he had been waiting twenty years for the chance.

”I’m sorry.”

Aria cried harder.

”I know.”

”I should’ve remembered.”

”I know.”

”I should’ve come back.”

”I know.”

Luna watched them with tears falling silently down her cheeks.

For the first time in years, Eden felt something he hadn’t felt in a very long time. It wasn’t happiness. It was something quieter and stronger.

Home.

Then a hospital monitor began beeping.

Eden froze.

The sound came from somewhere far away. A steady rhythm echoed through the fading world.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Aria slowly released him.

”Dad.”

”What?”

”You need to wake up.”

Eden looked at her.

”Wake up?”

She nodded.

”The story is ending.”

The room began fading around them. The walls became transparent. The floor disappeared. The light grew brighter.

Eden looked at Luna.

”Will I see you again?”

Luna smiled.

”You never stopped.”

Everything turned white.

Eden heard a machine beside his bed.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

His fingers moved.

A nurse shouted for a doctor.

Eden’s eyes opened.

And for the first time in twenty years, he was awake.
