When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 471: Chapter 165: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in the Period Novel (Finale)

At the time, high-rises were not yet widespread, let alone had any regulations been introduced to penalize people for throwing objects from them. The potential hazards were hard to predict: fire safety risks, long waits for elevators, high population density leading to sharp conflicts between neighbors, difficulties with plumbing and electrical repairs, and so on.

As the buildings aged, various hidden dangers would slowly reveal themselves.

Even in the future, these problems still couldn’t be completely resolved, let alone in the present day.

Chi Yun’er had her own plans.

She couldn’t stop Jiang Zishi and Bian Yumin from raking in cash by building high-rises. But as an expert in the field, she could supervise them to ensure the buildings were sturdy and well-designed, and that the plumbing, electrical, and other facilities were top-quality.

From the very beginning, Chi Yun’er intended to account for every potential safety hazard, find corresponding countermeasures, and use stringent requirements to force Jiang Zishi and his team to be meticulous in every stage of construction.

If Chi Yun’er fighting him for the land auction nearly made Jiang Zishi cough up blood, then having his blueprints rejected again and again and being forced to revise every stage of the work several times over directly caused half his hair to turn white by the time the buildings were finished—and that’s no exaggeration!

This money was just too hard to earn. Wiping away bitter tears, Jiang Zishi lamented that he could have provoked anyone, but he never should have provoked a woman.

After all, as the old saying goes, ”Of all people, only women and petty men are difficult to deal with.” And this ultimate woman was far more difficult to handle than any petty man.

Moreover, no matter where Jiang Zishi bought land to build, Chi Yun’er would show up like a cat that had smelled fish, dragging along officials from the local housing authority to criticize and nitpick his project.

Jiang Zishi finally reached the end of his rope and went to Jiang Yihua, telling him to get his woman under control. She was already married with three kids; shouldn’t she just stay home obediently, taking care of her husband and children?

’Why does she have to keep her eyes glued on me, a man she once gave her heart to?’

Jiang Yihua replied that his wife’s happiness was the top priority. If he didn’t let her vent her frustrations, he’d be the one suffering in the end. So, he could only ask Jiang Zishi to bear with it.

”Housewives, you know, have a lot of pent-up resentment. They need something to do to divert their attention and draw their fire.”

Besides, his wife wasn’t blind or stupid. There was no way she’d give up an outstanding man like him to settle for second best...

’So I, Jiang Zishi, am the pitiful one here?’

However, as the number of projects increased, Jiang Zishi began to figure out the pattern.

Chi Yun’er came with the intention of causing trouble, but she always played by the rules. As long as he met every standard, he could avoid this little she-devil.

In order to speed up progress, Jiang Zishi had no choice but to do the work properly and conscientiously, giving up any thought of cutting corners or single-mindedly pursuing profit and speed.

Two or three years flew by, and with a constant influx of capital, the Capital City underwent massive changes.

It was now the late eighties. The standard of living was on the rise, and all the incremental changes were building toward a qualitative transformation.

Jiang Zishi felt his moment of glory had finally arrived; the shopping mall and apartment buildings were complete!

Although this area was in the suburbs, transportation was fairly convenient, and there were many factories nearby, providing a stable and sizable base of target customers.

When the mall opened, the two basement levels housed a parking garage, a large supermarket, and various restaurants. The first floor was for clothing, shoes, and hats; the second floor for electronics; the third for furniture; and the Fourth Level was an arcade. Above that were two floors of office space and twenty-four floors of apartments.

Considering the spending power of the average person at the time, Jiang Zishi and Bian Yumin knew that large, expensive homes would be hard to sell. Thus, for the sake of practicality and a quick sale, they had built small apartment units ranging from thirty to sixty square meters.

After all, the work-unit housing of the era was of a similar size.

The nine-thousand-plus square meters of land was just enough for two large buildings. The space between the towers was entirely filled by the shopping mall, and a relatively narrow ring of landscaping, fitness facilities, and protective railings was built around the perimeter.

Each of the two towers had four sections. In each section, there were six households per floor: one sixty-square-meter unit, two forty-square-meter units, and three units of about thirty square meters.

Each section was equipped with three elevators, one of which also functioned as a fire elevator.

Because the shopping mall and office floors took up the first six above-ground levels, there were only twenty-four floors of apartments. Even so, this still amounted to one thousand one hundred and fifty-two units for sale!

Although Bian Yumin knew that housing prices in the Capital City would be high in the future, they couldn’t wait that long. They had to recoup their capital as quickly as possible to show the Cook family a profit.
