When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 452: Chapter 160: The 70s Green Tea Educated Youth (47)

”Architecture is about far more than just putting up buildings. For a functional structure like this, there are many factors to consider. You have to balance aesthetics, practicality, safety, stability, and future development trends.”

”Aside from the highly specialized content, which you didn’t go into detail on, you’ve covered everything else!”

At this point, Professor Bai smiled and asked,

”So, young lady, what do you say? Would you like to come to Imperial University and be my student?”

Chi Yun’er and the senior student who came with her were both stunned.

They had come to ask an expert to come out of retirement, so why was she the one being recruited as a disciple?

’I’m someone who just wants a stable life, a free ride to success,’ Chi Yun’er thought, not having expected this at all. ’Why can’t I ever resist the temptation of these opportunities, constantly running around and taking on more responsibilities?’

’If I had even a shred of ambition, I’d have my head buried in books, studying for the college entrance exams.’

But ever since she’d been reborn, she hadn’t turned a single page of a textbook. She’d only been encouraging others to study...

Professor Bai continued to dangle the bait. ”Young lady, the field of architecture is sorely lacking in highly skilled talent. Our country is developing better and better, and people’s demands for housing and buildings are growing.”

”Never mind anything else, just look at the crowded ’tube buildings’ we have now. They’re bound to be the first things to be phased out.”

”People strive for better things, just as water flows downward. So where will the people living in them, and their growing children, go?”

”The construction industry will be one of the most lucrative fields for the next few decades. If you take this chance while you’re young to learn a few things from me, you’ll be set for life.”

”Based on this proposal, I can directly admit you as a student in the Imperial University architecture department. With that status, you’ll be like a fish in water in the construction industry...”

Chi Yun’er was tempted. To get an Imperial University degree without taking any exams... regardless of the major, a university student from this era was worth their weight in gold. They were in high demand everywhere.

Thinking about the future real estate boom, Chi Yun’er’s mind went blank. By the time she left the Bai family’s home, she had already filled out an application form, complete with Teacher Bai’s signature.

Once she went back, prepared all the documents, and submitted them to the university, she would officially be a student at Imperial University...

It felt a bit surreal, didn’t it?

Chi Yun’er considered herself smart, but she didn’t think she was brilliant enough to attract the attention of a prestigious university and gain admission without taking the exam, not like Jiang Yihua.

Clutching the application form, Chi Yun’er felt like she was walking on cotton all the way home.

”What’s wrong, Yunyun? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Mrs. Chi had gotten food and returned home first. She saw her precious daughter sitting on the sofa in a daze, completely lacking the high-spirited energy she’d had that morning!

Mr. Chi, who was rarely home at this hour, heard his wife’s words and also looked at his daughter nervously.

He knew his daughter had come up with another idea for the hospital. When he first heard about it, he’d nearly jumped out of his skin.

His daughter’s nerve was getting bigger and bigger. The entire hospital had over two thousand seven hundred employees—no, with the staff from Sisheng Street, it was over three thousand. Who among them would dare to imagine building a whole new hospital?

Heh, and with such audacious-sounding plans, too! Sketching out a vision for everyone of becoming a world-class hospital, and even dedicating an entire building to traditional Chinese medicine!

’See? My daughter has probably gotten in over her head.’

”My dear daughter,” Mr. Chi said, carefully organizing his thoughts before trying to persuade her. ”You can’t get fat from a single bite. Your idea for a new, world-class hospital, one with its own irreplaceable strengths, is excellent.”

”But it’s also fraught with difficulties. Look, the hospital layouts in Xiahua are all more or less the same. They just have a few main buildings. You can shuffle them around, but what’s so innovative about that?”

”It’s fine to run into problems now, but if we wait until it’s built and it still doesn’t meet the expectations you’ve set for everyone...”

Chi Yun’er puffed up her cheeks and glared at him. ”Old Chi, is that how little you think of your own daughter?”

”I already said we need to get the architecture right from the start, building it to international hospital standards. Then, we can slowly bring in the equipment and talent. After that, we equip it with the traditional Chinese medicine that our Xiahua is so proud of and pour money and resources into the research institute. Why can’t we compete with world-class hospitals then?”

”We Xiahua people are plenty smart,” she huffed.

”Ah, so you’re not upset about the architecture project?”

Mr. Chi chuckled. ”Our family’s situation is decent enough. Your mother and I don’t have high expectations for you. As long as you have a job to support yourself and you’re happy every day, that’s all that matters.”

”You’re still so young. Don’t worry about so many things.”

Mrs. Chi nodded in agreement. ”That’s right. Take this time you kindly helped recruit workers. What was the result? They got jobs and smoothly returned to the city. How many of them truly remember your kindness?”

”In all things, you need to think more about yourself. If it’s something you can do and enjoy doing, then go for it. But if it makes you unhappy, just let someone else be the one to stick their neck out.”
