Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 2393: Chapter 2394: Irrelevant

All meridian abilities are subordinate to the Power of Laws. In terms of completeness, they certainly can’t compare to the Power of Laws, but they are essentially of the same origin, existing as higher and lower tiers, and their energy level is not vastly different.

In this situation, law meridians can completely serve as a power to ward off the law’s energy waves.

”When the energy waves appear, you just need to envelop yourself with the gravity meridian to move freely.”

After Kanter finished speaking, Angel looked around at the still dissipating remnants of the energy waves and decided to attempt according to his advice.

Although he had mastered the gravity meridian, the power of the meridian resided deep within his soul, and releasing it required an additional step. So, he planned to have Toby release the gravity meridian.

Soon, the gray mist representing the gravity meridian emanated from Toby, swirling around everyone.

Since Toby bore no malice towards those present, even if they were surrounded by the gravity meridian, they didn’t feel threatened. Instead, due to the swirling gravity meridian, the remaining remnants of the energy waves were directly isolated outside.

This proved that Kanter’s method was indeed correct.

”No wonder the flame field is completely unaffected by the energy waves... Right, does this mean my flame meridians can also ward off the energy waves?” Ferro, feeling the changes in the surroundings, brightened at the eyes.

Kanter nodded, ”Yes, all law meridians can ward off energy waves.”

With that said, Kanter extended a finger, its tip emanating starlight.

Although the essence of the starlight couldn’t be confirmed, within it flowed the fluctuations of law meridians!

Angel, staring at the shimmering stream of starlight, couldn’t help but ask, ”Lord Kanter, since you possess a law meridian, why just now...”

Kanter sighed softly, ”The situation was urgent then.”

To mobilize a law meridian also required time, and at that moment, Kanter was half inside and half outside the Void; any damage could shatter his body in half. No one knew when the Plane Corridor might break, and under such urgency, he simply had no time to mobilize the law meridian; survival was the priority.

Upon leaving the Plane Corridor, the threat from the law’s energy waves diminished significantly, rendering unnecessary the use of the law meridian for protection.

While they talked, they had already neared the location of the flame field.

Before reaching the flame field, Kanter changed his appearance, becoming identical to Sanders with just a turn.

This was also Angel’s suggestion.

After all, Sanders had already shown his face before, so continuing to use his appearance posed no burden.

Upon arriving at the flame field, Kanter immediately established a Mind Ribbon between them, to prevent their conversation from being overheard by Number 03.

He then first checked the iron lump enveloped by the water’s power, then through the Mind Ribbon communicated to Angel and Ferro, ”Is this what you previously referred to as the mechanical head?”

Angel nodded, ”Yes, according to Number 03’s claims, it’s called a Mech Being.”

”Mech Being, the name sounds characteristic of the Mechanical Alchemy school.” Kanter muttered, continuing, ”This Mech Being is encased in a layer of water membrane. I sensed the water membrane’s fluctuations; while the energy is not strong, according to your previous accounts, it’s sustained by Number 03’s magic power, which seems to be true.”

”However, though the energy isn’t strong, the energy level of the water membrane is unusually high, capable of warding off energy waves and the flame meridians. I feel that even the water power of ’Sea God’ Florenza might be inferior to this.”

”The core of this Mech Being, barring any surprises, was likely crafted by an existence above Legend.”

Upon hearing Kanter’s introduction, Ferro immediately recalled using the flame field to burn the Mech Being earlier, during which Number 03 kept threatening that Ferro would suffer the consequences if the Mech Being was destroyed.

A vague implication already suggested the Mech Being had an extraordinary background.

Now, linking past and present, the answer seemed to surface.

Could it be, they’ve offended yet another Legendary Wizard? Ferro’s heart skipped a beat, and with some hesitation, he voiced his judgment.

After hearing Ferro’s statements, Angel and Kanter fell into silence for a while.

Finally, Kanter softly said, ”It’s alright, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.”

Angel added, ”Moreover, the core of this Mech Being hasn’t been destroyed. Even if it were, a Legendary Wizard couldn’t easily enter the Wizards’ Realm...” At this point, Angel remembered the entity Ferro encountered that might possess legendary status and added another line, ”...right?”

Ferro was left speechless and aggrieved: ”...” Is this supposed to be comforting?

No matter how tumultuous and helpless Ferro felt inside upon speculating the Mech Being indeed had an incredible background, Kanter refrained from further damaging the Mech Being’s core.

Besides, he probably couldn’t destroy the Mech Being’s core quickly.

He simply gave up sensing the Mech Being, directly speaking, ”Giselle, shall we negotiate?”

At this moment, Number 03 inside the Mech Being immediately recognized the voice outside as Sanders’.

The oppressive sensation that could penetrate even the core of the Mech Being caused Number 03’s heart to involuntarily tighten.

seemed to vaguely feel that this time the tone in Sanders’ voice contained something a bit different from before... It seemed even colder and more intimidating.

What 03 didn’t know was that the person speaking outside was no longer Angel who was deliberately pretending earlier, but had changed to Kanter. Kanter, being an old friend of Sanders for many years, mimicked Sanders’ voice and demeanor more authentically than Angel.

However, this does not mean Angel’s mimicry was not good.

When Angel mimicked Sanders, it mostly reflected the attitude Sanders showed when facing him. Though it remained indifferent, there was no obvious sense of alienation, and occasionally it even displayed the warmth between mentor and disciple. This was not Sanders’ real image to the outside world; what Angel saw was more of his friendly private side.

Kanter, on the other hand, understood all sides of Sanders, so he could mimic Sanders vividly with just a few words.

This more authentic and stern image indeed caused anxiety in 03’s heart.

Originally, 03 intended to act as indifferent as when facing Ferro, but with ”Sanders” standing outside, even the slightest sound of breathing gave 03 an unprecedented sense of intimidation.

In the end, under this psychological pressure, 03 spoke:

”I wonder what Your Excellency wants to discuss?”

...

A quarter of an hour later, Kanter was preparing to leave with Angel, while Ferro was left near the flame magic ground.

Before leaving, Kanter took an item out of his pocket and gave it to the dazed-eyed Ferro.

”If 03 does anything unusual, crush it immediately,” Kanter instructed Ferro.

Ferro looked down and found that what Kanter threw to him was a black crystal cut into a rhombus shape. Through its facets, he could vaguely see inside the crystal where a thick black seemed to be able to flow, and amidst the darkness, some faint starlight points shimmered, as if the crystal held an entire midnight starry sky.

Although Ferro did not know what this black crystal was, since Kanter certainly wouldn’t harm him, he naturally nodded.

After handing the black crystal to Ferro, Angel went with Kanter in the direction of the laboratory.

On the way, Angel asked, ”Do you think 03 might do something?”

Kanter nodded, ”Although I’m not sure what 03 is up to inside, when she sensed we intended to enter the base laboratory, her aura clearly showed a bit of chaos. I took the opportunity of that chaos to notice that not only did her aura not weaken, but it continued to strengthen.”

In such a situation, whether or not 03 will act out, it’s better to stay vigilant.

Kanter’s giving of the black crystal to Ferro was to guard against possible moves from 03. Meanwhile, the crystal could also provide their location, allowing them to transfer out immediately even if there were issues with the laboratory.

Kanter: ”However, even if 03 really wants to do something, it’s easy to suppress. What I’m most concerned about is... that person.”

Kanter’s conversation with 03 was not like Angel’s need to constantly pretend to be Sanders, leading to many questions not being asked in detail. Kanter himself had powerful strength, so when questioning things, he didn’t avoid them purposely, thus obtaining a lot of hidden information that hadn’t been asked before from 03.

Among them, Kanter tentatively asked 03 about that seemingly legendary figure Ferro encountered.

Finally, combining all sorts of remarks from 03, Kanter could confirm that 03 was unaware of the existence of ”that person.”

In the minds of Angel and others, although no one said it explicitly, they were speculating that the person might be from the Lacey Association of the Origin World and definitely related to the base laboratory.

But now it turns out that the person actually had nothing to do with the base laboratory, at least in 03’s perception.

Who could this person be then?

What stance do they hold?

Everything remains unknown.

”I hope things go smoothly this time.” After expressing his emotions, Kanter couldn’t help but murmur, ”Had I known things would be this troublesome, I wouldn’t have come... Damn old man Nis!”

...

When Angel and Kanter returned to the fortress, Nis had almost completed his preparations.

This time, Nis appeared quite the same as before, except that he now had an armored knight holding a bone sword by his side, and Nis’s hat and wizard robe were all replaced by a grayish-white color.

Although the knight was covered in a heavy skeleton armor, it was possible to see through the gaps that it was empty inside. However, the green ghostly fire between the two eyes showed that the inside wasn’t truly hollow; there was indeed a ”person” inside, but this ”person” had become a spirit.

The armored knight merely stood silently by Nis’s side, producing an invisible intimidation.

Angel and Kanter didn’t feel much, but Reynaud beside them could clearly sense the terrifying imposing manner, not daring to approach the armored knight. He could only hide behind Angel to avoid that fearsome aura.

Kanter wasn’t very attentive to the armored knight; instead, he glanced at Nis’s newly changed robe and hat, then asked, ”Ready?”

Nis nodded, excitement flickering in his eyes: ”No problem.”

Kanter: ”Then let’s go in.”
