Chapter 2389: Chapter 2390: Nis’s Goal

If Nis’ inspiration is true, and the reason Ferro cannot delve into the other party’s situation is that the person’s status is extremely high, then this matter is quite terrifying.

One must understand that even wizards standing at the pinnacle of the Southern Domain, like Rhein and Monty, do not possess such characteristics.

Inability to trace back, inability to recall, cannot be explored. This kind of passive pervasive influence already has the flavor of an Abyssal Demon God.

And an Abyssal Demon God, no matter how weak, is a being above legendary.

Thinking of this, Ferro couldn’t help but swallow nervously, his expression showing irrepressible fear... Anyone who encounters this situation might find it difficult to remain calm.

”I didn’t feel anything before, but now the more I think about that person’s situation, the more my heart feels uneasy.” Ferro’s voice even trembled a bit: ”Is he really an existence above legendary?”

”But how could there be an existence above legendary in the Southern Domain?”

Nis pondered and said, ”Don’t forget where this base laboratory comes from.”

The source of the base laboratory is the Lacey Association, which is a secret organization from the Origin World. If it really involves the Origin World, the emergence of an existence above legendary is very likely.

”Number 03 must have concealed something.” Nis stated with certainty, but even if asked now, it’s likely that Number 03 would not say anything.

Silence hung in the air.

After a long pause, Angel spoke: ”Nothing is conclusive yet; the person Ferro encountered, even if truly above legendary... at least for now, the malice towards you doesn’t seem that strong.”

If the other party is truly legendary in status and harbors malice towards Ferro, Ferro would have been dead long ago.

An Official Wizard facing a True Knowledge Wizard is like an ant; let alone facing a higher-level Legendary Wizard.

Since the other party hasn’t acted that way and even warned him not to get involved in the ”Nest” matter, it might be that the other party holds some goodwill?

Nis: ”Guessing back and forth isn’t a solution; if nothing else, we’ll find a safe place to inquire in the Wilderness of Dreams. For now... if the other party is an existence above legendary, maintain respect and avoid making reckless comments.”

Nis’s meaning was clear, it’s best not to discuss that person further.

Angel and Ferro both nodded. Angel had encountered a Legendary Wizard before and knew that they possessed a certain sense of perception. The more they were talked about, the more likely they were to be noticed. Ferro, on the other hand, was increasingly scared, and the feeling of mental paralysis was indeed uncomfortable; not talking, not thinking, not mentioning was the best choice for now.

”We can refrain from mentioning that person, but the Nest matter they spoke of, I think we still need to take it seriously,” Nis said.

If the other party is indeed a Legendary Wizard, a matter even such an existence would pay attention to is certainly no trivial matter.

Ferro: ”It should be treated seriously. But we still know nothing about the Nest, and Number 03 has already taken a non-communicative stance; what should we do now? Or, shall we go over and take a look?”

As Ferro’s words fell, a new wave of rumbling arrived just in time.

The residual resonance of the airwaves lingered for half a minute before beginning to subside.

Feeling the aura that even made Official Wizards tremble with fear, Nis spoke to Ferro exasperatedly: ”You don’t even have the qualification to operate in such a field, and yet you want to go and take a look at the Nest; do you have a death wish?”

Ferro closed his mouth in a timely manner; he had only mentioned it casually, but if he were really asked to head towards the airwaves, he certainly wouldn’t do it.

Nis looked at Reynaud, who was still in a daze: ”You’ve been in the laboratory for so long, do you really not know what’s in that direction? Have you never heard of the Nest?”

Reynaud shook his head and said: ”The laboratory often moves, and the conditions of the Mist Belt Sea are very complex; I am not very familiar with the surroundings.”

”However, what we refer to as the Nest usually implies the Nest of Sea Beasts.”

Reynaud’s words made Angel’s heart stir. If it truly is the Nest of Sea Beasts, there is indeed a Sea Beast nearby that is worth mentioning.

It is the one they encountered earlier, the suspected offspring of Shitz, the Purple giant beast.

Other Sea Beasts, Angel couldn’t judge. But for the Purple giant beast they encountered, if it indeed has the background of ”Shitz,” then attracting an existence above legendary to pay attention is very likely.

Thinking of this, Angel looked towards Nis.

Nis happened to look over as well, and from the exchanged look, Angel was sure that Nis probably thought of the same thing as him.

”If it is indeed that one, then many things would make sense,” Nis said softly.

Angel softly replied, ”Perhaps, the laboratory’s ultimate goal is also it.”

Nis nodded as well; he hadn’t forgotten that Number 03 clearly stated earlier that the laboratory would soon leave the Southern Domain. If they’re about to leave, the plan must be close to completion, and now that 01 and 02 have both headed to the Nest, perhaps their ultimate target is indeed Shitz’s offspring.

During Angel and Nis’ conversation, Ferro listened with a puzzled expression: ”What are you talking about? What is ’it’?”

Nis patted Ferro on the shoulder: ”You just need to know that this is something beyond our involvement.”

Seeing Ferro still looking confused, Nis laughed: ”Angel and I just have a little idea, but whether it’s true or not is also hard to say. If you really want to know, go ask Number 03 in the Flame Faction and see if she’s willing to answer you.”

Ferro thought for a moment, and in the end, actually went to ask for confirmation from Number 03 outside the Flame Faction.

But whether he would get an answer remained unknown.

Nis looked at Angel: ”Let’s temporarily set aside the matters of the Nest and that person.”

Although they were curious about these things, overreaching curiosity could be deadly; to live a long life, it’s best to exercise restraint and patience.

”The repeated occurrence of the airwaves is not a good omen either.”

Angel also agreed with this; although the airwaves hadn’t shown explicit lethality yet, their existence was uncontrollable. Continually exposing oneself to such an uncontrollable situation is rather unwise.

In order to escape control, it’s best to leave the area covered by the gas wave as soon as possible.

But before leaving, they still hope to achieve the objectives they came for.

This time, each of them came here with different objectives. Ferro wanted to learn about the Night Butterfly Witch, and based on the current progress, he has basically achieved this. Reynaud’s goal is to find his body, with no news yet, but it’s suspected to be in the laboratory. Nausicaa’s aim is to obtain the Night Butterfly Witch’s arm, which, in the current situation, isn’t something that absolutely needs completion.

Angel’s goal was initially to find Nausicaa and, if possible, help her find the Night Butterfly Witch’s arm. Additionally, to bring news of the Night Butterfly Witch back to Ironclad Granny. With the premise of not necessarily needing the Night Butterfly Witch’s arm, his goal can pretty much be considered accomplished.

As for Nis, his aim is more generalized. He came here guided by Dororo, with a general curiosity about the laboratory and the powers in Quest World, similar to Angel.

On the surface, Reynaud is currently the most urgent, as it concerns his life.

But in reality, Nis, driven purely by curiosity with the most unclear objective, is actually the most urgent.

Ever since he came here, Nis has had a vague premonition that the true path he’s been seeking might be found here.

Because of this, even though Nis knows that safety in the gas wave is hard to guarantee, he hasn’t immediately chosen to leave. He’s urgently hoping to get what he wants.

And what he wants... is most likely in the laboratory.

Nis shifted his gaze to the Steel Fortress not far away, his eyes gleaming: ”Angel, you said you have a way to open the laboratory?”

Angel: ”Indeed, I have a way to enter the laboratory, but are you sure you want to go in?”

Angel hadn’t forgotten that Number 03 was urging them to enter the laboratory. No one knew if there might be traps inside.

Nis: ”I do want to go in and take a look, and besides, Reynaud’s body might be in there. The longer his soul is separated, the greater the damage to his body... Of course, if he dies, it’s fine too, perfect to be a mascot in my Soul Valley.”

Though Nis mentioned Reynaud’s situation, Angel could see that Nis truly wanted to check out the laboratory.

Angel: ”The situation in the laboratory is currently unknown; it’s best to approach cautiously.”

Nis: ”Do you think I’ll rush in without understanding the situation, like Reynaud and Nausicaa? Don’t worry, I won’t gamble my life recklessly.”

Angel paused for a moment: ”Then...”

Nis pulled out a monocle from his pocket, shook it at Angel, then winked: ”Flora knows to get together with Sumishe when researching the blood fusion virus, so how could I act rashly? Over the years, I’ve saved up quite a bit, so I plan to call in some reinforcements.”

”I’ll find a safe spot to make a trip to the Wilderness of Dreams, and while I’m at it, I’ll see if Lord Tree Spirit or Ironclad Granny are around, and ask them about the person Ferro encountered.”

After speaking, Nis remarked: ”I have to say, Angel, this Wilderness of Dreams you’ve developed is really great. Back in the day, there were so few options for situations like this.”

Angel thought about it and found Nis’s approach reasonable. With better options available, there’s no need to take unnecessary risks.

Without delay, Nis turned and prepared to leave, taking Nausicaa with him as he left.

Previously unaware that the laboratory might involve very high-level stakes, taking Nausicaa along wasn’t an issue, but now her staying here would be redundant.

Nausicaa understood her own weakness, unable to change anything, and with a complex emotion in her eyes, she ultimately chose to leave with Nis.

After Nis departed, with the party temporarily down a member, Angel, following his heart’s intent, prepared the casting materials for the Plane Corridor, ready to leave if any surprises occurred or if the gas wave changed.

After making preparations, Angel continued researching the magic patterns on the fortress.

Not long after, Ferro returned to the vicinity of the fortress.

”What’s the situation, where did Nis go?” Ferro looked around in confusion: ”And where’s Nausicaa?”

Angel came back to reality from the world of magic patterns, stretched, and briefly explained Nis’s whereabouts.

Afterward, Angel asked: ”How did things go on your end, did Number 03 say anything?”

Ferro shook his head: ”Whenever I asked about The Nest, she completely wouldn’t respond. The only thing she mentioned was what she said before, that when Number 01 and Number 02 come back, she’ll compensate as per the previous proposal.”

”Though I have no idea what she’s doing in that hunk of metal, I think she genuinely meant that.”

Angel: ”As Nis said, everything she’s said so far has been empty words. Moreover, what Nis wants, Number 03 certainly won’t give.”

Although Nis’s objectives are vague, his desired item is clear—the research materials in the laboratory.

Particularly those related to Soul Arms.

Number 03 might give out Soul Arms, but she definitely won’t provide these materials. This is precisely why Nis intends to personally search the laboratory.

As they continued their conversation, another gas wave arrived.

The gas wave still had the same effects as before, yet the accompanying rumbling seemed slightly weaker.

Moreover, within the rumble, there seemed to be faintly mixed deep beastly roars?

As Angel tried to listen more carefully, the rumbling gradually disappeared.

Regarding the beastly roars, Angel asked Ferro, who shook his head, indicating he hadn’t noticed.

”Perhaps it’s a psychological suggestion from the mention of the Sea Beasts’ Nest earlier.” Angel thought no more about it, whatever was happening, he wasn’t going to get involved.

After a while, a soul aura came from above, through the mist.

Nis had returned.
