Chapter 2391: Chapter 2392: Law Ripples

As the actual controller of the Wilderness of Dreams, Angel, through the Gatekeeper’s authority, can know who has entered the Wilderness of Dreams. Therefore, he is very clear that Kanter definitely has not been to the Wilderness of Dreams.

So how did Nis manage to contact him?

The answer became evident from what Nis had previously mentioned: ”The external support was introduced by Tree Spirit.”

Tree Spirit cannot leave the range of the Barbarian Cave, and Kanter hasn’t entered the Wilderness of Dreams, so the conclusion is simple: Kanter is currently in the Barbarian Cave and agreed to Nis’s invitation through Tree Spirit’s communication.

Having solved this mystery, Angel couldn’t help but let his mind wander.

Why would Kanter agree to Nis’s invitation? As the head of the House of Lilith, Kanter’s strength and position need no mention. It must not have been easy for Nis to invite him to escort. Could it be that Nis offered an irresistible cost?

Moreover, why did Kanter come to the Barbarian Cave? Is something wrong, and he came to seek Sanders’s help?

While Angel was deep in thought, Kanter smiled and said, ”From what you said, it seems Nis didn’t tell you that his external support is me? He does love keeping secrets.”

Angel: ”I didn’t expect Wizard Nis to be able to invite you, Lord Kanter.”

Kanter glanced at the pit behind him: ”He really shed a lot this time.”

Angel suddenly understood, no wonder Nis said earlier ”he lost big this time,” it seems that to invite Kanter, the cost Nis paid was definitely not small.

”I saw that the cost Nis paid was favorable and with your Barbarian Cave’s Ancestral Spirit speaking for him, I was willing to come. However, I didn’t expect this guy to set me up. Just when I exited the Plane Corridor, I lost a trump card. Hmph, he must compensate!” Kanter spoke with a face full of pain when mentioning the lost trump card.

”I already said it wasn’t my fault, who knows where that air current came from. And, what does Tree Spirit speaking mean? You heard Angel was here, so you agreed to come over yourself... You must have something to discuss with Angel, I acted as a free physical path mark for you, you not only didn’t thank me but demanded a large collection from me, some uncontrollable factors arose, and you want to blame me, even deliberately stepped on me, I’m also wronged!” This was Nis speaking.

Nis had also left the pit at this point, but unlike Kanter, he crawled out looking disheveled instead, his wizard robe covered in dust and holes, with two footprints on his chest.

He not only looked downcast but also pitiful.

However, everyone present was not foolish, from Nis’s sneaky and flickering eyes, it was evident he was just posing pitifully to gain sympathy.

How could an Official Wizard need hands to crawl out of a pit less than three meters deep? How could they end up covered in dust and dirt? Impossible.

Kanter sneered, instantly seeing through Nis’s trick, and he was too lazy to argue further with Nis, plainly stating: ”After all, I haven’t set a concrete contract with you, if you don’t compensate, then I won’t establish a contract.”

”If you don’t establish a contract, I won’t reimburse the demonic materials you consumed coming here.” Nis, as the inviter, had previously agreed to fully reimburse Kanter for the demonic materials consumed when releasing the Plane Corridor. The cost of releasing the Plane Corridor... isn’t cheap, to him, this also counted as a form of threat.

Only, Nis overlooked that he was facing none other than a wealthy wizard.

As the current head of the House of Lilith, a family passed down through countless generations, with each generation birthing True Knowledge, it’s impossible to be short on money.

Kanter sneered: ”Is it just a bit of demonic materials? Not to mention the reserves in the family treasury, the demonic materials I carry now are enough for me to open the Plane Corridor ten times, eight times over. Do you think this can threaten me?”

Kanter’s affluent statement left Nis speechless and made Ferro, not far away, look aghast... they were the typical poor wizards.

Even Angel, who was not poor, was astounded by Kanter’s words. He also had demonic materials for casting the Plane Corridor, but at most prepared two sets. To have ten sets of demonic materials like Kanter did, he truly couldn’t compare.

Though Nis didn’t speak, Kanter was still not appeased: ”You were right about one thing, I indeed have some private matters to discuss with Angel. Therefore, even if I consumed one use of the demonic materials, it’s not an issue, at least I met Angel.”

”So, do you have anything else to say now?”

Kanter’s attitude clearly indicated he intended to peel another layer off Nis’s pocket.

Nis mumbled: ”It’s not like you’re lacking Magic Crystals either...”

Kanter: ”I may not lack Magic Crystals, but I don’t mind having more. Moreover, do you think my Life-Substitute Paper Figures can be bought with Magic Crystals?”

Nis: ”Then what do you want?”

Kanter squinted his eyes slightly, a glint of brilliance shone through his narrowed eyes: ”I heard from Sanders that you’ve built a treasure chamber.”

”Yes.” Nis didn’t deny, he just mumbled in confusion: ”Why would Sanders bring up my chamber?”

— Naturally, it’s because there are things I need, Kanter contemplated internally, but outwardly showed no indication.

”Let me go to your chamber and choose one thing, and I’ll agree.”

”What thing?”

”I haven’t visited yet, who knows what treasures you have in your chamber. I’ll select once I’ve been.”

Nis looked skeptical, feeling something was off about this proposal.

”You don’t need to worry, I’m not a Soul Sect Wizard, I won’t choose anything related to the Soul Sect. I’ve only heard from Sanders that you’ve visited many relics and acquired some things you’re temporarily unclear on their usage, those are what I want.”

Nis wasn’t foolish: ”I don’t believe it’s that simple, you suddenly mention my treasure chamber, you must have a plan.”

Kanter: ”I do have some thoughts, it’s no harm telling you. A long time ago, I heard from Sanders that you explored an ancient relic in the Snow Collar Realm.”

Nis furrowed his brow: ”That indeed happened.”

Kanter: ”The head of the House of Lilith from two generations ago disappeared exploring a relic in the Snow Collar Realm. I don’t know if the relic you explored is related to the prior generation head, so I want to see what you obtained from there.”

Kanter acted very upright, revealing the general situation, but Nis still felt there was something Kanter was concealing.

Seeing Nis wavering, Kanter said: ”Anyway, I’ve already said it, if you don’t offer such compensation, I won’t sign the contract. At worst, I’ll treat this trip as solely for Angel, I’m not losing out.”

Kanter showed an unyielding attitude, leaving Nis with no choice but to concede, nodding: ”Fine, you can go to my chamber and pick one thing, but it definitely can’t be related to the Soul Sect. Also, if you pick something I’m unfamiliar with, you must truthfully tell me its function. If its effect is beneficial to me, when I need it, you can’t refuse my usage.”

From Nis’s words, it was clear he was very reluctant. If Kanter truly chose something Nis misjudged, he’d find a way to gain a degree of user rights.

```
Kanter gave Nis a long look: ”Alright.”
Nis: ”Then let’s sign the contract now.”
The so-called contract is essentially similar to an employment agreement. Such contracts or oaths have very strict and cautious drafting procedures in the Wizards’ Realm, making it hard to find any loopholes. Moreover, they have significant binding power, which is why Nis must sign a contract with Kanter.
The process of signing the contract was quick. After signing, Nis looked utterly dejected: ”If I’d known, I would have just asked Lord Tree Spirit to give him a log-in device back then. We should have signed the contract in the Wilderness of Dreams, and none of this would have happened.”
”What is the Wilderness of Dreams?” Kanter heard a familiar term. He had heard people mention this term when he arrived at Barbarian Cave, but he hadn’t paid it any mind. But now that Nis mentioned the Wilderness of Dreams again, it piqued Kanter’s curiosity.
Nis snorted twice: ”This is an internal secret of Barbarian Cave. You’re not a member of Barbarian Cave, so why should I tell you?”
”If you’re unwilling to say it, there’s nothing I can do.” After a few seconds of silence, he added, ”However, I must remind you of one thing: although we have mutual friends, our relationship isn’t so close that you can call me by my name.”
Nis’s expression froze, and after a moment, he obediently addressed him: ”Lord Ruye.”
Kanter nodded in satisfaction.
Once their contract was signed, Angel finally stepped forward and curiously asked: ”Did Lord Kanter have business with me?”
Kanter nodded: ”That’s right, I came to Barbarian Cave specifically to find you, but I found out you had left after arriving. I had planned to wait in Barbarian Cave for your return, but who knew I would encounter this matter just a few days later.”
Although Kanter indeed wanted to look at Nis’s secret chamber, it wasn’t that urgent. Had Nis not mentioned Angel was also there, he definitely wouldn’t have agreed to escort Nis.
”What is the matter?”
Kanter sighed: ”This matter concerns Qi Li...”
Before Kanter could finish, a rumbling sound mingled with mournful beast cries came from afar, accompanied by a new wave of law waves rolling in.
Everyone stopped what they were doing, and Kanter knitted his brows, looking in the direction from which the wave came.
Once the wave dissipated, Kanter said to Angel: ”The matter I wish to discuss isn’t urgent; we can talk about it later. I believe your matter should be more pressing than mine.”
After a pause, Kanter asked, confused: ”Why are law waves so frequent around here?”
”Law waves?” Angel: ”Lord, are you referring to the previous kind of wave? Can you tell us more about it?”
”Law waves, also known as law ripples, are generally the power of laws that have diffused and, without constraints, create continuous ripple-like waves in the surroundings. The law power is strongest at the core, diminishing as it spreads outward.”
It was Nis, not Kanter, who spoke after finishing a Cleansing Spell.
After Nis finished, Kanter nodded: ”That’s right, Nis’s explanation is accurate.”
After a pause, Kanter continued: ”It seems I didn’t wrongly accuse you earlier. You knew about the existence of law waves and still opened the exit here.”
Nis: ”I only just found out, having learned about the law waves recently from Lord Tree Spirit.”
Kanter tilted his head slightly: ”By the way, I’m quite curious. From what I understand, your Ancestral Spirits never leave Barbarian Cave. But you’re clearly at Devil’s Sea. How did you inform the Ancestral Spirits to sign a contract with me?”
”You said you only recently learned about the law waves from Lord Tree Spirit; how did you contact him?”
Kanter’s eyes were filled with curiosity.
This place is extremely far from Barbarian Cave. How did Nis accomplish such long-distance communication with the Tree Spirit?
Nis: ”That’s a secret of Barbarian Cave, and I have no right to tell outsiders.”
And the one who does have the right to tell outsiders was just behind Kanter—Angel—but Nis wouldn’t say it.
Hearing Nis, Kanter didn’t press further. Ultra-long-distance communication isn’t without solutions; even inter-world communication is possible, which explains the existence of the Expedition Team and the many Abyss outposts. However, the cost of materials is expensive.
Kanter figured that Nis had been using expensive materials to communicate with the Tree Spirit. It’s logical because during the contract signing, Nis explicitly stated this exploration was significant for him and that he was willing to spend his resources.
Angel: ”Let’s discuss other matters later. I still don’t quite understand the law waves Wizard Nis mentioned earlier. What do you mean by dispersed law power? How could the power of laws diffuse?”
This time Nis didn’t speak, and Kanter explained on his behalf: ”Law power generally shouldn’t diffuse...”
Laws are actually about aligning with a specific rule.
Legendary wizards and above basically can wield a certain amount of law power. Their control over it should be perfect. Unless they intentionally let it, the law power won’t diffuse.
Aside from this, witchcraft gardens also contain laws’ power. But this is a precious resource for a witchcraft garden, and no one would waste it.
Moreover, some special items also contain some solidified law power. If this power is unstable or is triggered, it might lead to diffusion.
Simply put, although law power is omnipresent, instances of diffusion are usually related to special items that have leaked it.
As for diffusion by a legendary wizard’s law power, that’s quite rare.
That’s why, even though Kanter felt the law waves, he wasn’t as cautious or afraid as Angel, Nis, or Ferro. Because, in his view, no legendary wizard would appear.
If a special item diffused its law power, there might be a way to seize it.
After hearing Kanter’s explanation, Angel relaxed slightly. Previously, without knowing the truth, they were constantly anxious about the ”unknown”; now, knowing the truth of the waves, their tense hearts naturally relaxed a bit.
Even so, Angel didn’t completely let his guard down; he still had some concerns in mind.
Were the law waves really the result of certain special items with solidified law power leaking it?
And who was that person Ferro encountered before?
