Chapter 1394: Chapter 593: Quelling the Rebellion (Part 2)

As they ate, large drops of tears fell: ”It’s been several days.”

”Several days?” Remon asked curiously.

”We’ve been out of food for several days now, every day we have to carry out more than a hundred dead from the stronghold.” Alan said, crying, ”Your attack is too fierce, destroying one place after another. We usually act scattered, there’s not that much stored grain!”

”...Sorry, but it’s the Duke’s orders.” Remon was somewhat apologetic, an Old Guard feeling ashamed for the first time: ”We must quell the rebellion quickly.”

”Duke? Duke!” Alan gritted his teeth, forcefully suppressing his anger: ”All you know is the Duke, do you know how the Duke of Leonais treats us?!”

”He deceived our original leader, saying he was willing to help us solve our problems. We were happy, chose to surrender, and then that Duke pretended to give us travel expenses and grain to send us home, but instead locked those surrendered peasants in the hills and conducted a massacre!” Alan’s eyes were bloodshot: ”Eight thousand, eight thousand brothers and sisters were killed by that Duke! Tell me, Remon, how is the Duke of Leonais now?”

”He’s dead, killed by a Vampire.” Remon knew Duke Aldred had done the killing of captives under the incitement of his entourage.

”Well killed! All Dukes deserve to die!”

”Alan!” Remon was angry too: ”Duke Laine is not like him!”

”All these knightly nobles are the same bastards!”

As soon as the rebel leader said this, the atmosphere in the camp changed.

A slew of angry eyes stared at this rebel leader, an Old Guard stepped up, directly slapped the rebel leader’s face: ”Shut up, you fool! I don’t care about anything else, if you don’t want to die, don’t speak ill of the Duke, or try it and see, let me tell you, I was originally like you, a peasant, farming by the Xinong River.”

”I’m a peasant too! I’m a hunter from Charon Forest!”

”I’m a peasant too! I used to fish for a living in Red Fish Village!”

”I’m a peasant! Before the Duke enlisted me, I was a butcher!”

”We are all peasants!”

”Without Duke Laine, we’d have nothing today!”

The Old Guards crowded around; these soldiers having killed their way out of corpse mountains exuded a terrifying aura. Alan was scared pale, unable to speak, Remon persuaded for quite a while before the Old Guards dispersed.

”I told you, Duke Laine is different from them.” Sitting back down, Remon continued: ”Over our side, everyone loves Duke Laine, everyone. There, no one goes hungry, if you work diligently you have meat to eat, especially farming. The Duke collects fixed taxes, as long as you pay the Duke’s share, the rest is yours.”

Alan murmured something under his breath, which Remon didn’t catch clearly.

”By the way, I remember we once aided Leonais with a large batch of grain!” Seeing Alan silent, Remon recalled something, and said puzzled: ”Although it was grain approaching its two-year storage limit, it should’ve been enough to solve the food shortage!”

”Relief grain? What nonsense are you talking, Remon.” Who would’ve thought Alan would sneer, he disdainfully took a spoonful of porridge and said: ”Don’t mention us rebellious peasants, even those willing to farm for the Master Knights didn’t receive a single grain of relief grain. Such things relief not us, but some castle’s Master Knights, right?!”

”Don’t speak nonsense, we knightly nobles haven’t seen that relief grain either.” At this time, a voice approached from behind, Count Larot, dressed in Brittania’s count attire with lace trim at the cuffs, approached, he nodded politely first and with a smile said: ”Mr. Alan, want to know where those relief grains went?”

”How would I know!” Alan shouted somewhat rudely, though his eyes flickered back and forth, clearly still very interested.

”Several large ships of relief grain were shipped into Leonais Castle by the Sea God Fleet of Boldro, originally this batch of grain was supported by several Southern Duchies together for Leonais’s food shortage.” Count Larot said smiling: ”The day after the grain entered the port, relief grain began to be sold immediately at Leonais Castle’s market at a price far below cost, it didn’t take long for the northern nobles and merchants of Leonais to snap it all up.”

”...” Alan clenched his fists.

”Throughout, we Old Musillon Nobility never saw a single grain of relief.” Larot’s smile turned bitter: ”Of course, it’s not that you can’t get any, it’s just that you have to buy with money. We’ve always been marginalized like this, no surprise anymore.”

On hearing Count Larot’s firsthand account, the Old Guard surrounding sighed collectively, they all being peasant-born naturally knew some tricks loved by Master Knights, many sighed in relief and gratitude that they had Duke Laine, fortunately him.

Whatever the case, with the final rebel peasant force’s destruction, all rebellions in Southern Leonais had been completely quelled.

Peace finally descended.

...I’m Duke Laine good dividing line...

Old World, Brittania, Count Glamorgan, Laine’s Count Castle.

”Oh wow, what an unexpected gain!” Laine sat in a chair in the study, browsing the battle reports from the front line, nodding repeatedly, looking quite pleased.
