Chapter 1376: Chapter 586: The Stubborn Sylvia (Part 3)

”So, do you think I’m not worthy of your lady?” Laine knew Sylvia wouldn’t lie recklessly, so he continued to ask.

”Is there a better match than you in this kingdom?” Sylvia once again denied Laine’s perspective, the head maid shook her head repeatedly: ”I won’t deceive myself, your marriage with the lady is successful and happy, even I can’t find any fault, she is the future queen, and you truly treat her well, I have no objections.”

”Uh... Do you think I have quite a few women besides Surya? So you dislike me?” Laine felt a bit awkward, he was indeed unfair to Surya on this point, so before marriage, he promised Surya not to add anyone else, and the female knight agreed.

”... His Grace Duke Francois has twice as many female courtiers as you do, and as a duke, you have only Lady Teresa and Lady Veronica as female courtiers, which is the least among all dukes. Of course, I feel indignant for the lady, but I know there’s no way around it. I’ve never disliked you for this reason.” Sylvia still denied it: ”As for the maids, there’s just Lady Amelia and that Dark Elf with whom you’ve been involved, right?”

So why exactly don’t you like me?! Laine muttered in his heart, thinking he must figure this out today and dispel any misunderstandings, for a harmonious home brings prosperity.

Summer’s sultry night breeze swept through the garden, causing the golden purple sea of flowers to sway back and forth. Normally, the iris blooms season is May, long past by now, but whether it was the Lake Fairy or Surya, they both loved irises, so under the divine power of the Goddess, the blooming period lasted several months in the gardens of the Duke’s Castle.

Elegant, luminous, and free, it also symbolizes love. Laine felt the subtle fragrance and pondered, then asked: ”Is it because of my administrative policies? You dislike me for establishing the Old Guard, promoting peasants, and introducing dwarf technology?”

”Not at all, I agree with Lord Laine’s views, I also believe this country needs change.” Sylvia still denied.

”???” The confusion in Laine’s mind grows, having thought long, he felt there were no other reasons.

Laine’s status now was unlike before. As the most powerful man in Brittania, repeatedly asking would feel degrading and frivolous. The Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy thought maybe he should ponder more, and ask again once he figured it out.

The garden fell into silence.

”...” The head maid, seeing that Laine stopped asking, showed a somewhat displeased expression, she thought for a moment, gritted her teeth and said softly: ”I’ve never been dissatisfied with you before, Lord Laine. If there was, it started three years ago.”

Three years ago? Laine thought wasn’t that right around the time when he married Surya?

But Sylvia also said it wasn’t because she felt Surya was unworthy, nor was it that she disliked him for having many women and being unfair to Surya.

So the question returned, why did Sylvia become dissatisfied with him three years ago?

Laine thought for a long time but couldn’t figure out the reason.

”Unexpectedly, His Grace Laine Macado, renowned in the Old World for his iron will, excellent internal affairs talent, superb military command ability, and outstanding personal martial valor, would be blind to such a trivial matter.” Sylvia’s tone turned cold again as she moved to leave: ”Alright, I should go back.”

”Wait!” Laine thought, determined to understand the issue today: ”Sylvie, don’t rush back, it’s a rare opportunity, let’s take a walk! We could go to the Holy Grail Praise Bar at the Gene Town Center for a drink.”

”... Is this a formal invitation? Or a command?” The head maid spoke with a stiff tone: ”Can I refuse?”

”This is a sincere invitation, I realized we rarely have time to be alone.” Laine said with sincerity: ”I think we need to communicate.”

”... I’ll go change my clothes.” The head maid finally relented.

”Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
