Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 221: Chapter 219: Gu Xi Forced to Read Fairy Tales

In the library, Gu Xi was unconsciously flipping through a fairy tale book, with a furious Shaya beside him.

Currently, Gu Xi had to keep his head down because both his hands had turned pure black, with twisted eyes growing on the back of them.

This was the result of Gu Xi’s excessive reading in the Magic Tower.

If Shaya hadn’t noticed something was wrong with Gu Xi and forcibly dragged him out, his condition might have been even worse.

But this excessive reading wasn’t without its benefits for Gu Xi. Now his Dark Knowledge had reached Level 3, and he had also completed studying three other spells during his spare time to mitigate the effects of reading Dark Knowledge.

Now Gu Xi had mastered Death Ripple, Magic Divine Arrow, and Flame Trap.

Since he learned them in his spare time, Gu Xi had only a basic grasp of these three spells, reaching only Level 1 without delving further.

However, for Gu Xi, it’s good enough to have learned these spells; he can use them in future battles, and with more practice, their levels can improve.

Thinking of this, Gu Xi was about to put down the fairy tale book in his hand when Shaya pressed down on his hand and glared at him.

”Continue.”

”Shaya, give me a break, I’ve already gone through this several times, I can almost recite the book.”

”No way, until the anomalies on your body subside, you have to stay here, read quickly, don’t let your mind wander, or I’ll make you read out loud.”

Facing Shaya’s imposing manner, Gu Xi could only agree reluctantly.

He lowered his head again and continued flipping through the fairy tale book that he didn’t know how long he had been reading. As he read, the areas of Gu Xi’s hands that had transformed were slowly returning to normal.

Seeing Gu Xi calm down, Shaya relaxed a bit. She still stood by his side, but her eyes wandered around the library.

As Shaya’s gaze wandered, Gu Xi secretly raised his head, but before he could relax, Shaya pressed his head back down to the book.

”Read!”

”So boring.”

Gu Xi muttered and refocused on reading.

This time, Gu Xi didn’t get distracted and truly re-read the fairy tale book in his hands, while the anomalies on his body gradually faded. Now only a few of his fingertips still carried a bit of black color, everything else had mostly returned to normal.

Seeing Gu Xi almost recovered, Shaya no longer imposed on him.

She just kept a watchful eye behind Gu Xi to prevent any mischief.

Just then, Luna floated into the library, and when Gu Xi saw her, he wanted to put down the fairy tale book.

But Shaya stepped forward, blocking Luna’s path.

”Luna, please wait a bit longer. The master needs a few more minutes to wrap up without leaving any issues.”

Luna glanced at Gu Xi’s hands and stepped back slightly.

Then Shaya turned her head towards Gu Xi, who ducked his head again and resumed reading, not wanting to get involved in the conflicts between his two Contracted Undead.

Finally focusing intently on reading, Gu Xi managed to clear away all the anomalies on his body, feeling as if he’d been cleansed. At this, Gu Xi let out a long sigh of relief and stood up.

”Luna, is there anything to eat? I’m starving, and the library needs more books next time. These fairy tales are getting on my nerves.”

”There’s no librarian in the library, so you’ll have to find books yourself.”

Shaya chimed in with a bit of sarcasm.

Faced with Shaya’s sarcasm, Gu Xi was also a bit helpless since he hadn’t managed the Magic Library after building it.

Though he was busy, he also hadn’t prioritized the library.

But now it seemed, the library construction couldn’t halt.

Once outside, he should replenish some books to avoid getting sick of reading these fairy tales again.

At this moment, Luna, previously blocked by Shaya, floated back in, carrying a roasted owl and an item that Gu Xi was unsure of.

”Is this a new product?”

Upon receiving the food, Gu Xi realized it was a roasted fruit. The fruit looked like an apple, but slightly smaller, with dark red liquid flowing from the cut side.

The roasted fruit emitted a peculiar sweet aroma.

[Roasted Blood Fruit (White, Food): Roasted blood fruit. As it originates from the Vampire’s Bloody Garden, it carries a bloody odor. Eating it is fine, but it can increase 1 point of Constitution for 2 hours.]

Seeing the attributes, Gu Xi’s eyes brightened. He was exhausted from before and needed a good supplement for his physical strength.

He immediately grabbed half of the blood fruit and bit down, only to be hit by a powerful sour taste.

He almost spat it out, and then Luna slowly said, ”The barmaid mentioned that the blood fruit suits a vampire’s palate; it tastes sour to ordinary people.”

”Is that what you call sour? My mouth is numb.”

”Better to have a numb mouth than turning into a mass of Dark Curse.”

Luna huffed heavily.

In truth, she was also angry with Gu Xi, but she didn’t show it like Shaya did.

”Alright, I get it; this was enough of a lesson. I won’t be so reckless next time.”

Gu Xi knew he had gone overboard and quickly changed the subject, asking, ”How are things in the town? What’s the progress on the construction projects, and how’s the Barracks coming along?”

Turning to serious matters, Luna revealed some details to Gu Xi.

”This time, including both reading and resting, you spent 31 hours. In the Magic Plant District, an Eagle Eye Arrow Tower has been completed. In the Hundred-armed Giant Graveyard District, you prioritized building the Alchemy Laboratory first, so the Blood-Dripping Alchemy Laboratory was built out of order and completed.

Currently, the Energy Lighthouse is under construction, at about 50% completion, requiring approximately seven more hours to finish.

Next will be the Eternal Enslavement Altar in the Pier District, where there’s still a medium plot available for use.

As for the Barracks, the teams clearing the sewer have attacked three times, and the remaining two teams are halfway through their second foray, with various supplies overflowing and piled up in the Barracks plaza.”

”Overflowing? Perfect, let’s go see. Sitting reading that long nearly broke my back; I need to move around.”

As Gu Xi spoke, he stood up, but before leaving, he took the three special peas produced by the library this week.
