The Quest for Immortality

Mo Hua paints Formations on his own, constructs creation and restraint on his own, and comprehends Laws on his own.

Like this, he tries bit by bit, gropes bit by bit, constantly probing the boundaries.

Once his mind goes blank and shows signs of being ”assimilated” by the Great Dao, Mo Hua immediately notices and at once stops.

If the Heavenly Dao is the judge, acting according to the statutes of the Great Dao.

Then Mo Hua right now is like a little ghost ”committing crimes,” and a repeat offender at that, constantly testing the edge of the Heavenly Dao, wandering within the gray zone of Heaven’s taboos.

Things that ”break the law” are naturally more profitable, but they easily incur punishment.

Things that are ”legal” yield gains more slowly, but at least are safe and stable, with no future troubles.

He still has to be a ”lawabiding” good Cultivator.

Of course, even if he wanted not to obey the law, he couldn’t—Heavenly Dao has never spoiled him.

Because he fears being ”targeted,” Mo Hua’s comprehension of Laws naturally slows down.

Yet even so, this speed of his comprehension is already wildly outrageous.

In ”selfcontrolled” Law comprehension, the most frightening part is the ”selfcontrol.”

To be able to create the conditions for ”epiphany” by oneself, to comprehend corresponding Laws according to one’s own design, and even by creating ”contradictory creation and restraint,” further deduce other Laws.

This kind of ”defying heaven” behavior, in a certain sense, already steps outside the category of ”human.”

This is simply not something a normal person could do.

Not to mention, Mo Hua is still only at Foundation Establishment.

That the will of Heavenly Dao doesn’t simply slap this defiant thing to death already counts as great mercy.

After that, Mo Hua begins, within the ”tolerance” range allowed by Heavenly Dao, to continue his Formation structuring, Law reconstruction, Law creation and restraint, Law comprehension.

He must not sink too deeply into it; Mo Hua is not too pleased, but there’s no help for it—Cultivation still has to balance exertion and rest, like a slow, steady stream.

In this way, day after day passes, and half a month goes by.

Mo Hua’s level with Formations has again made a great leap.

Primarily, his control over the Thick Earth Ultimate Formation, as well as various Five Elements Earth Element Formations and Eight Trigrams Gen Mountaintype Formations, has all risen a full tier.

Using these Formations as a medium, he ”constructed” Laws related to the earth, and after repeating this practice many, many times, his insights ran extremely deep.

And the construction of Laws in turn fed back into Mo Hua’s comprehension of Formations.

From Formation to Law, and then from Law back to Formation.

The boundary between the two has begun, in initial fashion, to blur, tending toward unity.

This is truly comprehending Formations up to the level of ”Laws.”

And this is only the ”earth”type Formations.

Mo Hua feels that if he were to carry out this same operation on all Formations—deconstructing Formations, reconstructing Laws, then using Laws to feed back into Formation understanding—

Then someday, he might truly achieve the unity of ”ten thousand Formations” with ”ten thousand Laws.”

Becoming a Formation Master of unimaginable terror.

The Formations he paints would themselves be ”Laws.”

And his Laws could, at will, derive new Formations...

”Formation is Law, Law derives Formation...”

At this thought, Mo Hua’s heart suddenly jolts.

He suddenly realizes that this kind of thing is not unfamiliar to him.

He has seen this scene before.

That was more than ten years ago, when he was still young; Uncle led him to attend the Ten Thousand Demons Gathering, using Gui Tao’s Heaven Sealing Formation to seal the entire Ten Thousand Demons Hall, slaughtering all Golden Core and even Feather Transformation Demon Cultivators—the scene from that time.

Back then, when Uncle used the Formation, those Gui Tao Formation Patterns seemed to come alive, selfderiving in the void...

”Gui Tao’s Heaven Sealing Formation...”

Mo Hua sucks in a cold breath.

At the time he was young with low Cultivation, his vision and experience were lacking, so he simply could not understand.

He could not understand why Uncle’s Formation could ”selfpropagate” as if it had life.

But now, recalling it, he suddenly realizes in shock—could that have been...

The manifestation of one who has realized his own Dao, mastered his own Law, and then, according to ”Laws,” derives Formation Patterns?

Uncle cultivates Gui Tao.

Then what he masters is Gui Tao Laws.

Using Gui Tao Laws to selfderive is precisely Gui Tao’s Heaven Sealing Formation.

Mo Hua is shaken to his core, a chill spreading down his back.

He only feels that he has drawn closer to Uncle, that his understanding of Uncle has grown a bit deeper.

Yet the more he understands, the more he feels Uncle is powerful and terrifying.

What he has painstakingly managed to grasp only in rough outline, Uncle may long ago have honed to perfection, integrated it thoroughly, refining it to the realm of transformation.

For a time, Mo Hua is filled with a deep sense of loss.

When will he ever catch up to Uncle...

Then he suddenly realizes that he is being a bit too ”greedy,” and a bit too arrogant.

What kind of person is Uncle?

How many years has Uncle cultivated the Dao, and how long has he himself been cultivating?

What Realm is Uncle at, and what Realm is he at?

For him, as he is now, to want to be compared with Uncle—his heart is far too big...

Being unable to match up is only normal.

Thinking this way, Mo Hua feels a bit better.

At the same time, he cannot help thinking: if Uncle’s methods really are as he has guessed, deriving ”Formations” according to ”Laws”—

Then it means the path he himself has taken may be the right one.

In this world, aside from his master, there are likely very few Formation Masters who could rival Uncle, who bears the title of ”Taoist.”

Uncle’s path is certainly the path of a mighty.

Even if he does not walk it himself, it is still absolutely worthy of reference.

Mo Hua gradually lets out a long breath.

The heart that had been somewhat at a loss before—toward Dao, toward Laws, toward Formations—also gradually calms down quite a bit.

If only you walk a path alone, it is bound to be lonely and bewildering.

But if Uncle is walking ahead of you on that same path, then it becomes far more reliable.
