THE LAST KEEPER

Inside the central hall of the Archive, the massive black void sphere stopped spinning. A profound, unnatural silence settled over the room, so deep that even the sound of his own spiritual breathing vanished.

The dark sphere began to glow with a soft, pale gray mist that drifted smoothly across the obsidian mirrors. As the mist touched Sagiri’s boots, the sharp ache in his petrified limbs faded into soothing warmth.

The cold weight of the five absorbed relics in his chest seemed to disappear, replaced by a gentle feeling of weightless peace. For the first time since he had entered the southern hellpools, his veins felt entirely free from burning pain.

Look at how quiet the darkness can be, the voice of the core whispered, echoing gently inside his mind like a warm summer breeze. You have fought through countless battles, endured cruel torture, and carried the survival of five nations on your shoulders.

You do not have to carry this crushing weight anymore, child of N’folu, the soothing voice continued, wrapping around his thoughts like soft silk. Let go of your mortal name, let go of your fear, and rest within the timeless void.

The gray mist rose higher, forming gentle illusions of a sunlit meadow along the eastern river valleys of Tagayia. In the illusion, there were no war academies, no corrupt council elders, and no bleeding soldiers dying on frozen battlefields.

He saw a quiet stone house surrounded by blooming white date palms, where his mother Rina and his adoptive parents Bakuru and Rusha sat laughing together in the afternoon light. It was a life of pure simplicity, a life where no one ever had to draw a weapon or bleed for a title.

A deep, exhausting tiredness pulled at Sagiri’s knees, tempting him to lower his guard and lie down upon the soft grass of the vision. His mortal lifespan was already burned down to a few fragile years, and every breath on the surface would be filled with pain.

“If I sleep here, the pain ends,” Sagiri murmured quietly, looking down at his trembling phantom hands. “No more burning blood, no more endless wars, and no more fear of losing the people I love.”

Yes, the dark core whispered softly, the gray mist thickening around his shoulders and blurring the sharp edges of his memories. Surrender the relics to their ancient cradle. Sleep, and let the troubled world above return to peaceful dust.

As the mist reached his chest, Sagiri looked down at the wooden shyflower pendant resting against his dark traveling collar. The delicate carving was rough and simple, shaped from ordinary northern pine by his own hands during a quiet night in the Galka dormitories.

He remembered the gentle look in Lira’s misty grey eyes when she poured warm medicinal tea for him after exhausting drills. He remembered how her hands never shook when treating wounded soldiers, always giving every drop of her strength to save another life.

He remembered the fierce roar of Kaka refusing to let him walk into danger alone, and the heavy thud of Bukata’s shield holding the line against impossible odds. He saw Zolinka carefully preparing his explosive darts, Maita scouting silent paths in the dark, and Ulekai offering bread with an innocent smile.

He remembered Kiuga analyzing tactical maps by candlelight until dawn, and Lady Kiana choosing to reclaim her soul instead of remaining an empty weapon. These were not mere memories stored in an archive; they were living bonds earned through shared blood, tears, and sacrifice.

“This quiet meadow is a lie,” Sagiri said, his voice starting as a quiet rasp and hardening into solid iron. “It is an empty dream designed to trick weary warriors into giving up their duty.”

It is not a lie, it is release, the voice pressed, turning slightly colder as the gray mist swirled with sudden agitation. Why do you cling to a mortal life that will only bring you an early grave?

“Because my friends are real, and the life I have left belongs to them,” Sagiri answered, his eyes snapping open with sharp determination. “A short life spent protecting the people I love is worth a thousand years of sleeping in an empty grave.”

He reached deep into his spiritual core, forcefully igniting the Five Relics within his bloodstream. The gentle illusion of the meadow shattered into sharp fragments of glass as five distinct colors of primal energy exploded from his body.

The Golden Spear anchored his footing firmly to the bedrock of Karokai, refusing to let his spirit be swept away by the void. The Beast Horn roared through his throat, releasing a sonic shockwave that tore the gray mist to ribbons.

The Living Stone Hammer hardened his spiritual frame against the mental pressure, while the Silver Mask cut through the remaining haze with cold, crystal clarity. In his right hand, Nokai blazed with brilliant silver-veined darkness, pushing back the shadows.

Meanwhile, on the frozen surface of Karokai Valley, the black spatial dome began to shake violently. Deep cracks of violet lightning crawled across the dark glass, sending powerful ground tremors through the frozen stone cliffs.

The sudden energetic backlash struck the glowing formation on the frost, nearly extinguishing the silver and green lines of energy. Lira gasped in sharp pain, her hands trembling as blood trickled from the corners of her lips from the intense cellular strain.

“Hold the array steady!” Kiuga yelled over the roaring mountain gale, pressing his entire weight into the frozen ground. “Sagiri is fighting off the core’s mental suppression! We have to keep his connection open!”

“I’m not letting go!” Kaka roared, his face turning red with fierce exertion as he locked his rough grip onto Lira’s arm. “Keep pushing your energy through, little healer! We pull our brother out together!”

Maita, Bukata, Zolinka, and Ulekai poured every ounce of their remaining mental strength into the formation, their shared resolve glowing with radiant green light. Outside the circle, titan serpent Zaira slammed her massive tail against the earth, creating a rhythmic shockwave that reinforced their spiritual bridge.

Lady Kiana raised both hands toward the stormy sky, channeling the pure void lineage of the Sekana clan into the six silver needles. A bright beam of pure silver light shot down through the top of the black dome, piercing directly into the central hall of the Archive.

Back inside the deep void, the silver-green beam struck Sagiri from above, washing away the last traces of the core’s seductive illusion. The strength and love of his squad surged through his veins, filling his tired spirit with unbreakable resolve.

Sagiri raised Nokai with both hands, stepping forward through the shattered mist until he stood directly before the colossal black void sphere. The dark sphere spun rapidly, pulsing with cold fury as its peaceful disguise fell completely away.

“You tried to offer me an easy death,” Sagiri declared, his voice echoing across the obsidian mirrors like rolling thunder. “Now I will show you how a Keeper of the living fights.”

Sagiri drove the radiant tip of Nokai straight into the glass floor, sending a massive shockwave of silver void energy surging directly into the base of the dark core. The hall shook violently as the true battle for the Archive began.
