The Golem Mage

Chapter 538 538: First Round Conclusion.

As the implications of the match outcome sank in, the crowd erupted in astonishment. However, the VIP spectators and the representatives from the other seven great academies were left in a state of confusion and silence.

”What is going to happen now?, I feel like weʼve deviated from the planned script,” Damien voiced his disbelief, the victory of the War God Academy seemed too easy to comprehend.

The sense remained for them that the match wasnʼt truly concluded, and that a continuation should have followed.

Yet, unfortunate for them, this was indeed the end, and there would be no rematch, as the team they had considered favourites had unequivocally lost.

”What the hell was the captain of the Royal Mage Academy thinking? Not only did he lose foolishly, but he also failed to expose the powers of that War God Academy brat, the only thing we know about him is his ability to summon golems,”

Remarked Derek, the captain of Onyx Academy, frustration evident in his words, rising from his chair, he began walking away.

Derek had witnessed everything he wanted to see, in his eyes, the War God Academy team comprised a group of weaklings who relied solely on Alec.

However, their resilience was undeniable, as no opponent had been able to defeat them thus far, as they were getting used to absorbing the attacks until Alec eventually led them to a win.

Derek attributed this to Alecʼs numerical advantage, outnumbering their opponents with his golems.

Based on this skewed perception, he left the rest of the academy to process their shock and contemplate how to rein in Alec, should they ever face him.

But Derek considered himself a different breed, he was prepared to meet Alec halfway, if that was what Alec desired.

”Now, would you look at that arrogant guy from Onyx thinking heʼs better than us just because his powers are similar to Alecʼs, he probably believes that if he ever faces Alec, all he has to do is match the number of summoned golems and heʼll be able to win the match as long as he can restrain Alec,” Thalia remarked, scoffing at the departing Derek.

However, the other captains waiting were unfazed by his exit.

Their concerns lay elsewhere—they were more preoccupied with the presence of a new contender among the top eight teams, as it meant they needed to eliminate the War God Academy swiftly to avoid losing too much face that the Royal Mage Academy had lost.

”Now, this is a development I never expected to witness, Old man, I thought you were confident in winning this competition when you agreed to host it, yet, it seems your ʼgolden teamʼ was defeated even before they could showcase their true potential,” a cloaked figure uttered towards the dean of the Royal Mage Academy.

The dean, enraged and unable to refute his words, gritted his teeth.

The sole reason he had volunteered to host the first round of the competition was because he believed his academy had what it took to elevate their ranking.

They were tired of being labelled as the weakest among the Great Eight, and mocked for only making it this far due to the support of the Royal clan and prominent members of ancient clans joining them.

Turning towards the figure, the dean glared intensely before storming off, knowing he had much to discuss with the Royal Mage Academy team that had just been eliminated from the colosseum.

As he walked away, he noticed someone who had been trying to leave since the start of the match, now firmly rooted to their chair without moving an inch.

This person had seen something—a brief, but lasting memory—Alec Gordonʼs ability to utilize black flames.

”Iʼm certain that what I witnessed were the variant Hell Flames, That boy has awakened the Hell Flames, it seems that Raeʼs boy has awakened the same power as him, If they ( Raeʼs enemies in the Blaze Clan) were aware of his awakening of the Black Flame, he would attract numerous adversaries, and they have now decided to ignore him, considering him insignificant, however, if he starts demonstrating such potential like Rae, he will become targeted by forces he is unaware of,” the elder murmured to himself.

He was the representative sent by the Blaze Clan to observe this round, and he felt fortunate to have witnessed the Hell Flames, as he completed his musings, he noticed that many of the VIP spectators had already departed.

Although it was concluded that the War God Academy team emerged victorious, but the deans from other academies didnʼt take them seriously as they found it hard to believe their teams could suffer defeat in such a manner, the battle between the two captains had been less intense than they expected for a climax of such a heated, match, but it provided then a glimpse into Alecʼs cunning nature.

But another matter intrigued the VIP, they were eager to uncover the identity of the talisman creator of the talisman which Alec had relied to win.

Talisman, Alchemist, Forger and Array path mages were exceedingly rare to find, yet they were the most sought-after types of mages.

The talisman Alec had released clearly demonstrated high mastery, reaching the pinnacle of mid-level power.

Its effectiveness against Liam left them yearning to invest their savings in recruiting this brilliant talisman path mage they had conjured in their minds.

While they may have acted disinterested in the affairs of the War God Academy, the truth was that they were all competing to reach Selene first, each one eager to discover the true identity of the talisman mage responsible for creating the powerful artifacts Alec wielded to secure victory in the match.

However, while the others hurried towards Selene, she remained rooted to the ground, her gaze locked on the screen in front of her.

The announcement of her teamʼs victory still felt like a dream to her, leaving her in a state of astonishment.

She held two gourds of wine she just bought, her sister by her side, Selenaʼs slaughter tinged, as Selene looked with a sense of disbelief at the teamʼs victory.

”Iʼm starting to fancy this captain of yours, introduce me properly!” Selena purred seductively, but her sister paid her no heed, preoccupied with the memory of squandering all the money the academy had provided to her in case the team miraculously made it to the top 8.

Contemplating the hefty sum of magic crystals she had to part with was giving her a headache.

”I need to reassess my gambling habits before it spirals out of control, I should indulged in gambling less” Selene murmured, torn between feeling proud of leading the team beyond the academyʼs expectations and the looming realization that she might not be able to afford the fee required to progress to the second round of the inter-academy competition.
