The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 334: Chapter 296: City-wide Alert

Just as someone was passing by, Wei Shang quickly stopped him.

”Hey, what’s going on here?”

The student he had stopped looked terrified. ”You guys just came out of Jail City, didn’t you? Can’t you see the guards are gone? This place was attacked by demonic beasts last night!”

”What? A demonic beast attack?”

Lin Yi and Wei Shang quickly turned to look.

Sure enough, the guards who had been stationed at the Jail City gate were all gone.

They really wouldn’t have noticed if the student hadn’t pointed it out.

”A demonic beast attack? Old Wei, didn’t you say the New District was safe?” Lin Yi glanced at him.

Wei Shang and Feng Lei were also completely stunned.

They quickly pulled out their phones.

And found they had over twenty missed calls.

Their signal had been blocked since they entered Jail City.

You couldn’t make or receive calls inside.

Moreover, all the calls were from the Town Martial Department.

Wei Shang and Feng Lei’s expressions grew grave. ”We need to return these calls!”

Lin Yi nodded and pulled out his own phone.

Just like them, he had over forty missed calls.

Half of them were from Wei Nan, Sun Tao, and Qin Zhaoxue; the rest were from Tang Qinru.

Looking at the missed calls,

Lin Yi realized something was very wrong.

He quickly called his sister back. The call connected, but before Lin Yi could speak,

Tang Qinru’s anxious voice came through first. ”Where are you?”

”Sis, I just got out of Jail City. What’s wrong?” Lin Yi had considered several excuses.

But in the end, he chose to tell the truth.

However, Tang Qinru wasn’t angry. Her tone was grave as she said, ”Go back to the university immediately. Don’t go out again if you don’t have to!”

”Okay, I’m heading back now!”

”Sis, what exactly is happening?”

”Demonic beasts have invaded the city. It’s extremely dangerous outside now. Listen to me, don’t leave the university campus for any reason. The university is protected by the Xingwu Guard, and it will be very difficult for those demonic beasts to break in!”

”Don’t worry about anything else!”

After Tang Qinru finished speaking,

Lin Yi nodded in agreement.

’Clearly, the situation has become extremely serious.’

’The fact that demonic beasts had invaded the city and that even his sister was treating it with such gravity...’

’...meant the situation was on the verge of spiraling out of control.’

After Lin Yi hung up on his sister, he called Wei Nan.

He’d thought Wei Nan would still be asleep.

But after just a few rings, the call was answered.

”Holy shit, you finally called me back!”

”Are you still in Jail City?”

Wei Nan sounded audibly relieved.

Lin Yi chuckled. ”Just got out of Jail City. What’s up?”

”Your sister even called me looking for you. I’m with Sun Tao and Zhou Qi right now!”

”The demonic beasts invaded the city last night, and the whole university is on edge!”

”There are Xingwu Guards all over the place downstairs now. How fucking scary is that?”

”Hurry back so we can figure out what to do!”

After Wei Nan finished, Lin Yi hung up.

Next, he called Qin Zhaoxue back.

”We’re sorry, the number you have dialed cannot be reached. Please try again later...”

A cold, electronic voice replied.

Lin Yi’s brow furrowed.

’Qin Zhaoxue is on a Demon Hunting Team. With the demonic beasts invading last night...’

’...she must have been out Demon Hunting with Chu Zhengxiong and his team.’

’Still, a vague sense of worry made Lin Yi anxious.’

Just then,

Wei Shang and Feng Lei walked over.

”The department wants us back. We’ll drop you off at the university first, then we’ll head over there.”

Lin Yi nodded. ”Don’t worry about me. You guys should hurry to the department. I can just take the subway back myself!”

”No way. If Old He found out about this, there’s no telling how he would chew us out!”

”Let’s go. We’re taking you back first!”

Lin Yi didn’t refuse again. It was Wei Shang and Feng Lei’s duty, after all.

’If he kept trying to be polite,’

’he wouldn’t be helping them; he’d be hurting them.’

So, Lin Yi followed the two of them toward the parking lot outside.

As they walked down the street,

students from various universities looked terrified and uneasy.

Some shops had even been smashed and looted.

There were also large patches of bloodstains on the ground that hadn’t been cleaned up yet.

Personnel from the Public Security Bureau were busy working in the area.

The guards in charge of defending the area had also joined in the efforts.

”Do you think the demonic beasts attacked here yesterday because they wanted to open the gates to Jail City and release all the beasts inside?”

As soon as the words were out, Wei Shang and Feng Lei whipped their heads around to look at Lin Yi.

Lin Yi’s seemingly casual words had opened up a new line of thought for them.

”It’s possible. There must be some special connection between demonic beasts and variant beasts!”

”It’s not out of the question that they’d want to break through and release the demonic and variant beasts inside!”

Wei Shang nodded.

”Let’s take it a step further,” Lin Yi continued.

”This invasion felt a little... abrupt.”

”What if Jail City is holding something important to them? Like a Demon King? Or a Beast King? Or maybe their young?”

”And that’s why these demonic and variant beasts are invading the city so desperately?”

”Of course, I’m just spitballing. Don’t take me too seriously.”

Lin Yi smiled, but while he might have been speaking casually, his listeners were paying close attention.

Wei Shang and Feng Lei took him very seriously.

”No... that might actually be it!”

”Most of the demonic beasts in Jail City were captured in the Restricted Area!”

”They’re brought here to maintain the ecosystem in Jail City and to serve as targets for the students’ missions—the variant and demonic beasts themselves!”

”Maybe it’s just like you said. What if they accidentally captured a Demon King? Or its young?”

”That’s what would make these demonic and variant beasts go crazy...”

”But what’s captured is captured!”

”We’re not going to compromise. If they dare to invade our city, we’ll slaughter every last one of them!”

”Come on, let’s get you back to the university first!”

Arriving at the parking lot, they quickly found their car.

The three of them got in and headed straight for Xingwu University...

When they arrived back at Xingwu University,

a large number of Xingwu Guards were gathered at the university gates.

They were all on high alert, their gazes sharp.

Everyone who passed by the gates was scanned by their piercing eyes.

”Call us if anything happens!”

Wei Shang reminded him before Lin Yi got out of the car.

”Okay!”

With that, he closed the car door and walked toward the university.

After a thorough inspection, Lin Yi was finally allowed onto campus.

As he walked across the athletic field, he could see squads of Xingwu Guards patrolling every so often.

Normally at this hour, although most students would still be asleep,

there would still be some students up for morning training or on their way to the Cultivation Field.

But this morning, the athletic field was empty.

Aside from the Xingwu Guards, there were hardly any students in sight.

Lin Yi made his way back to his dorm in Zone 1.

When he went upstairs and got back to his dorm room, he saw Wei Nan sitting on the sofa watching the news.

Hearing the door, he quickly looked over.

”You’re finally back! The whole city is on high alert now!”

”Did you see the university’s Xingwu Guards on your way back?”

Wei Nan said, a look of panic on his face.

Lin Yi, on the other hand, was completely unfazed. He nodded. ”I saw them. But you don’t have to be so dramatic, do you?”

”Back in the Old District, didn’t we go through this kind of thing every day?”

”What, have a few good months in the New District made you lose your nerve?”

Wei Nan shook his head. ”It’s not that I’ve lost my nerve. I just feel like we’ve got terrible luck!”

”Why do you think we fought so hard to pass the martial arts exams? Wasn’t it to escape life in the Old District? And now that we’re finally here, the same thing is happening all over again!”

”Sigh, I don’t know when life will go back to how it was before!”

”Can’t we just have a few peaceful days!”

After Wei Nan finished, Lin Yi just smiled and started walking toward his room.

’After hunting demonic beasts in Jail City all night, I’m still covered in the thick stench of blood.’

’I have to take a shower first, or the smell is going to make me gag.’

”Oh, right. Where are Old Wei and Old Feng? Didn’t they come back with you?”

Wei Nan asked just as Lin Yi was about to enter his room.

Lin Yi shook his head. ”Those two had business to attend to. They’ll be back later. Did you call your parents?”

”If you’re worried, you should try to find time to go see them during the day.”

”Already called them. They’re fine.”

”The community belongs to Xingwu University, and the Xingwu Guard handles security there. It’s nothing serious, so no need to worry.”

Hearing this, Lin Yi nodded.

He pushed open the door and went in.

As soon as he entered the room, Lin Yi rushed into the bathroom.

The moment the hot water hit his skin,

it felt as if all his exhaustion was being washed away.

He felt completely relaxed.

A night of fierce battles in Jail City

had consumed a great deal of Lin Yi’s Qi and Blood, as well as his stamina.

After his shower, he planned to go down to the cafeteria for breakfast.

Then he’d come back, cultivate the Star River Qi Transformation Technique, and get some proper rest.

’As for the demonic beast invasion,’

’that could wait until after he’d slept.’

Ten-odd minutes later, he emerged from the bathroom.

Xiaoqi, having finished breakfast, was already lying down and asleep.

Lin Yi didn’t disturb it. He changed into a set of clean, dry clothes and walked out of the room.

Wei Nan was still sitting on the sofa watching the news.

The news was reporting on the events of the previous night.

The news of the demonic beast invasion could no longer be suppressed.

City-wide panic was inevitable.

Now, it was up to the Demon Hunting Bureau, the Town Martial Department, and the Martial Arts Alliance to resolve the crisis.

”You coming? Let’s grab some breakfast at the cafeteria,”

Lin Yi said to Wei Nan.

Hearing this, Wei Nan nodded. ”Alright. Let me message Sun Tao and Zhou Qi.”

He picked up his phone and sent them a message.

Once they got a reply, the two of them left the dorm room.

After meeting up, they went directly to the cafeteria.

...

「Martial Arts Alliance Headquarters.」

「Conference Room.」

Old Yao and the other four Defenders had all arrived.

The only ones missing were Elder Yi and Elder Zhao Jian of the Xingtai City Zhao Family.

Like Yi Nanshan, he had also departed to defend the Restricted Area.

Now, five people remained in the conference room, including Old Yao.

Every one of them had a grim expression, their brows deeply furrowed.

They were all here, naturally, because of last night’s demonic beast invasion, which had created an unprecedented sense of crisis.
