The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 305: Chapter 285: The Town Martial Department Shields Its Own; Is There No Bottom Line?

He sat on the sofa with Yi Xiaoying.

”Director Yi, are you here to see me on official business or for a personal matter?”

Old He was the first to ask.

Yi Xiaoying was taken aback for a moment. She had never interacted with Old He before.

She had no idea what kind of person he was.

All she knew was that for Old He to manage the Town Martial Department at the Six-Star Realm, he must have his own unique methods.

And to be honest, it wasn’t just her.

In the entire Yi Family, besides Yi Nanshan, you couldn’t find a second person who could get a word in with Old He.

The Town Martial Department reported directly to the Martial God; they weren’t subordinate to any other department.

They even had a voice in matters concerning the Demon Hunting Bureau and the Martial Arts Alliance.

And those two departments wouldn’t dare to provoke the Town Martial Department lightly.

The Weapon Bureau was responsible for researching and manufacturing weapons.

However, they had no interactions whatsoever with the Town Martial Department.

So, she hadn’t expected Old He to be so straightforward.

He hadn’t even bothered with pleasantries before getting straight to the point.

Yi Xiaoying smiled. ”Director He, I came today primarily for a personal matter!”

”Oh?”

Old He paused, then smiled and nodded. ”Since it’s a personal matter, Director Yi, please be direct and get straight to the point!”

”It’s like this... I’d like to ask for some clarification first. If someone gets injured during a sparring session, is that considered brawling?” Yi Xiaoying said with a smile.

Hearing this, Old He’s brow furrowed deeply.

He glanced at Yi Xiaoying from the corner of his eye. ”Sparring? What kind of sparring? And where did this sparring take place?”

”The term ’sparring’ is very broad. If two Martial Artists get into a fight on the street and they both claim they were just sparring, would anyone find that convincing?”

”Also... if the sparring happens at a designated location and an injury occurs, then it’s still just sparring. As long as no one dies, you pay compensation where it’s due, and the Town Martial Department won’t get involved!”

After Old He explained the scope of what constituted sparring,

Yi Xiaoying nodded. ”Then what if it happened at a school’s Cultivation Field?”

”A school?”

Old He’s heart skipped a beat, and he looked up at her sharply.

”Director Yi, just tell me directly. Who was injured during this sparring session? Don’t tell me it was Lin Yi?”

For Yi Xiaoying to come find him personally, and to be so roundabout about it, it couldn’t be about anyone other than Lin Yi.

If it really was Lin Yi who was injured during sparring, then it would mean the Town Martial Department had failed in its duty to protect him.

The incident would implicate the entire Town Martial Department.

Especially Wei Shang and Feng Lei...

Yi Xiaoying quickly shook her head and said, ”No, it was the other student, the one sparring with Lin Yi!”

”Here’s what happened. The two of them were practicing with spears in the Cultivation Field’s Weapon Hall. As you know, fists and feet have no eyes. Even in a friendly match, accidental injuries can happen!”

”So, Lin Yi’s hand slipped, and he injured the other student!”

”Of course, it was our fault, and we will cover all the compensation!”

”Lin Yi is my nephew, and also my father’s grandson!”

”I came today hoping the Town Martial Department could stay out of this matter. We will absolutely guarantee that the student and his family are satisfied...”

”Fault? What fault is there?”

”Director Yi, you just said it yourself. Even in a friendly match, accidental injuries are sometimes unavoidable!”

”Besides, they were both using weapons. It’s even harder to guarantee safety in that situation!”

”As for compensation, pay them what you think is right. If they’re not satisfied, just give me a call. We at the Town Martial Department will have a talk with them!”

”Huh?”

When Old He finished speaking,

Yi Xiaoying was stunned.

Before coming here, she had rehearsed many different arguments in her mind.

She had imagined Old He rejecting her request with all sorts of attitudes.

Yi Xiaoying had even considered that if a civil discussion failed, she would have to get confrontational.

At worst, she was prepared to burn bridges with the Town Martial Department.

But she never, ever expected this would be the outcome.

Not only was Old He not angry, but he was also clearly siding with Lin Yi.

He was even going to negotiate with the injured party’s family from the standpoint of the Town Martial Department?

What was going on?

Wasn’t the Town Martial Department supposed to be impartial and incorruptible, showing no favoritism to anyone?

But the contrast was so great that Yi Xiaoying could hardly believe it was real...

Seeing the astonished look on her face,

Old He seemed to realize his own slip-up.

He had gotten anxious because the matter involved Lin Yi.

That was the future Martial God, the true master of the Town Martial Department.

Ever since he had arrived in the New District, everyone in the Town Martial Department, from the top down, had been eagerly awaiting the day he would ascend to the position of Martial God and take command of the Town Martial Department once more.

When he heard that Lin Yi had been sparring with someone, he just couldn’t keep his composure.

He was even thinking to himself, ’To be able to spar with the Martial God, what an immense honor that is!’

’Getting injured is just part of it; it’s a blessing in disguise for him.’

’How many people dream of receiving guidance from the Martial God?’

’And he dares to ask for compensation? Dares to be unsatisfied?’

Of course, these were all Old He’s inner thoughts.

As a result, his better judgment had taken a vacation.

He had blurted out those few sentences that had so shocked Yi Xiaoying.

”Director Yi, it’s normal for classmates to roughhouse a bit, let alone during a sparring session!”

”No one died, so a little compensation will suffice!”

”Oh, right. Please send my regards to Elder Yi for me. When I have time, I’ll go visit him for tea!”

With that last sentence, Old He managed to salvage the situation for himself.

He was implying that it was out of respect for Elder Yi that the Town Martial Department wouldn’t pursue the matter.

It was a bit of a stretch, though. When had Yi Nanshan ever had that much sway with the Town Martial Department?

However, Yi Xiaoying bought it.

She nodded hurriedly. ”Okay, I’ll be sure to pass that on for you, Director He!”

”In that case, we won’t trouble the Town Martial Department to intervene. We will handle it properly and give the injured student’s family a satisfactory explanation!”

”Good. Come, have some tea!”

The tea, prepared by his secretary, had already been brought in.

The secretary poured a cup for each of them.

Yi Xiaoying nodded with a gentle smile, raised her teacup, and took a small sip.

The heavy weight on her heart had finally been lifted.

At least Lin Yi’s matter was now settled.
