The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 270: Chapter 267: Town Martial Department and School, Both Backers?

He opened the door.

The person outside was none other than Wei Nan.

The moment he saw Lin Yi, his eyes gradually widened.

”Holy shit, you’re really back?”

”I’m back. Got back this morning!”

Lin Yi nodded, left the door open, and turned to walk into the bathroom.

Wei Nan hurried in after him.

He sat on a nearby chair and looked at the sleeping Xiaoqi.

He chuckled and said, ”So, how was it? Did you have a good time in Jail City yesterday?”

A moment later, Lin Yi came out after washing his face.

”It was alright. The area yesterday... I didn’t run into any demon beasts. It was just an abandoned city, not a single person in sight,”

Lin Yi said to Wei Nan while drying his face.

”Guo Hao, Wu Jie, and a few others from Sun Tao’s dorm next door got arrested!”

”Oh?”

Lin Yi froze, stopping what he was doing to glance at Wei Nan.

”How many people were arrested?”

”I think it was five. I didn’t see it myself, just heard it from someone else. I just got back from the Cultivation Field... What exactly happened? I heard they hired someone to kill you?”

The smile on Wei Nan’s face gradually vanished.

It was replaced by a look of worry as he stared at Lin Yi.

”Yeah, they hired a few second-year upperclassmen to try and ambush me in Jail City!”

”The fact that you came back alive and uninjured means all those upperclassmen are dead, right?” Wei Nan looked Lin Yi up and down, silently sighing in relief.

Lin Yi smiled and nodded. ”Yep, they’re all gone. Seems like they were professionals who killed for profit!”

”Professional mercenaries. They’ll kill whoever pays them and loot students’ belongings while they’re at it. They were utterly irredeemable, so killing them was no big deal.”

Wei Nan took a deep breath. ”I can’t believe there are people doing that in there.”

”You’ll have to be more careful next time you go to Jail City!”

”The local students were already unfriendly and hostile toward us from the Old District. Today it was Guo Hao and his gang, but who knows who’ll be causing trouble tomorrow. You just have to be careful about everything!”

Wei Nan sighed softly.

Lin Yi glanced at him. ”This isn’t like you. Why so sentimental all of a sudden? Did something happen?”

”What could happen to me? I was just here by myself after you left last night. When I heard someone hired hitmen to kill you in Jail City, I was scared out of my mind!”

”You’re the only brother I’ve got. If something happened to you, what would I do?”

As Wei Nan spoke, his voice started to choke up.

His eyes even began to redden.

”Come on, don’t get so emotional. We’re two grown men, what’s with all this? Let’s go, I’m getting hungry. I need a ton of Demon Beast Meat to replenish my depleted Qi and Blood. C’mon, c’mon, let’s go to the cafeteria and eat!” Lin Yi quickly broke the slightly awkward atmosphere.

Wei Nan raised a hand and wiped the tears from his eyes.

He stood up and said, ”Let’s go. Zhou Qi and the others are probably at the cafeteria by now!”

As they spoke, the two started to head out.

But just as he reached the door, Wei Nan stopped again and glanced at the still-sleeping Xiaoqi.

”Aren’t you bringing it?”

”No need. Let it sleep. Sleeping and eating are its cultivation methods. Don’t worry about it!”

After saying that, Lin Yi took out some Demon Beast Meat and placed it in Xiaoqi’s food bowl.

He also made sure to lock the door to prevent anyone from breaking in.

Once out of the dormitory, the two of them made their way to the cafeteria.

But the very moment they stepped inside,

all the students in the cafeteria turned their heads to look at Lin Yi.

The students here were all talented or from well-off families.

Previously, they prided themselves on being local students and always acted superior when facing Lin Yi and the others.

But now, when they saw Lin Yi,

their gazes became somewhat evasive.

Even when someone was about to cross paths with Lin Yi,

they would do their best to steer clear, not daring to meet his gaze.

”Over here...”

Just as Lin Yi was feeling puzzled,

Wei Shang stood up and waved at Lin Yi and Wei Nan.

Lin Yi nodded toward them, then grabbed a tray and went to the service window to get his food.

Even the ladies working at the window were exceptionally polite the moment they saw Lin Yi.

When they served him his food, their hands didn’t even tremble.

In fact, they heaped full spoonfuls onto his tray...

The change in everyone’s behavior in the cafeteria left Lin Yi feeling rather baffled.

After he carried his tray over and sat down with Wei Shang, Feng Lei, Zhou Qi, and the others,

he glanced around and asked strangely, ”What’s with them? Why has the way they look at me changed?”

As he finished speaking, Zhou Qi, Sun Tao, and Shen Mengyi all shook their heads.

Wei Shang said with a smile, ”What else could it be? You’re pretty much famous at school now!”

”The news that Guo Hao, Wu Jie, and their friends were arrested has already spread all over school.

And it’s all because of you!”

”This morning, Principal Tang even held a meeting about this, mainly to address the issue of local students not getting along with students from the Old District!”

”The principal has laid down the law: from now on, anyone who shows a discriminatory or prejudiced attitude toward students from the Old District will be punished with expulsion!”

”If anyone follows Guo Hao’s example and tries the same thing, they’ll be handed over directly to the Town Martial Department!”

”The Town Martial Department came to the school today to make arrests with great fanfare, and all for a student from the Old District like you... You can imagine the effect that had!”

After Wei Shang finished speaking,

it finally dawned on Lin Yi.

He never would have thought so much could happen in a single morning.

”And that’s not all. They’re all speculating about whether you have some special connection to the Town Martial Department or the school!”

”That’s just how it is in the New District. The local students target the Martial Arts examinees from the Old District because those students have no foundation here!”

”They have no backing and got in purely based on their individual talent!”

”To them, this is the greatest threat. Students from the Old District often have a lot of potential. As long as they have sufficient cultivation resources, on par with the local students,”

”their prospects are much brighter than the local students, and their upper limits will be higher!”

”Faced with such competitors, how could they not feel immense pressure? Before you students from the Old District arrived, they all fancied themselves as chosen ones, rising stars of the Martial Arts!”

”When you crush them with your talent, how could they not be afraid?”

Wei Shang’s few, understated words

laid bare the local students’ mindset.

Wei Nan took a bite of Demon Beast Meat and said with a disdainful look, ”So what you’re saying is, these local students are just really petty?”

”They target us over and over just for a little bit of vanity?”

”People like that, even if they cultivate Martial Arts, their mentality won’t pass muster. They’re destined to not get far on this path!”

Wei Nan’s voice was a little loud.

As a result, all the surrounding local students who were eating turned to glare at him.

The moment Lin Yi turned to look back at them,

they all hastily averted their gazes and pretended nothing had happened, continuing to eat with their heads down.

”See? That’s what it means to be crushed by strength, and also crushed by background!”

Wei Shang said with a light laugh.

Lin Yi nodded.

At that moment, he truly understood why Wei Shang had said before that to gain status in the New District and make the local students fear and respect you,

you first had to shed the label of being a Martial Arts examinee from the Old District.

In reality, that label was easy to remove. All you needed was a backer in the New District.

And now, through the Town Martial Department’s arrest of Guo Hao,

as well as the meeting and decision the school made regarding local and Old District students,

the entire student body had realized that Lin Yi’s identity was not simple.

The school favored him.

Even the always-impartial Town Martial Department favored him.

These two connections alone were enough to intimidate the entire school.

Lin Yi smiled at Wei Shang and said, ”It seems even these ’noble’ local students can’t escape the shackles of the secular world. They also treat people differently based on their status!”

Hearing this, Wei Shang laughed. ”It’s more than just treating people differently based on their status. That kind of thing is even more severe here than in the Old District!”

”Alright, let’s just eat. Where’s everyone going after this?”

Wei Nan, Zhou Qi, and Sun Tao exchanged a look.

They said almost in unison, ”The Cultivation Field!”

”What about you?”

Wei Shang glanced at Lin Yi.

”The Gun Skill Association. I’m going to find senior Xu Tai for a little sparring session!”

”Xu Tai? Sparring with spear techniques?”

Lin Yi nodded. From the battle in Jail City last night,

he’d discovered that his spear technique still had some shortcomings.

That was just the way it was with self-created martial arts techniques and Cultivation Techniques.

They required constant refinement to find flaws and patch up any shortcomings or weaknesses.

It was a process of strengthening weaknesses and building on strengths, polishing a martial arts technique to a state of near-perfection.

In the eyes of many, Lin Yi’s Tiger Roar Spear Technique was already considered the best of the best among high-grade techniques.

Even an ordinary high-grade martial arts technique couldn’t compare to this spear technique.

But in Lin Yi’s eyes, it was still not enough.

It needed to be perfected further.

When he finished speaking, Wei Shang and Feng Lei exchanged a knowing smile.

”Alright, then the two of us will go with you!”

Lin Yi nodded and continued eating.

...

”ACHOO!”

Inside the Gun Skill Association.

Xu Tai, who was in the middle of a meal, sneezed without any warning.

He quickly rubbed his nose. A senior sitting across from him glanced over.

”Ah Tai, are you catching a cold?”

Xu Tai shook his head. ”No, I just sneezed out of nowhere!”

”Do you think that Lin Yi guy really has some kind of connection with the school and the Town Martial Department? The Town Martial Department actually came to the school to arrest someone, and all for an Old District student?”

”Even if the Guo Family and Wu Family can’t compare to the seven great families,”

”they’re still minor powers in their own right. Aren’t they afraid of offending these smaller families?”

one of the guys asked, puzzled.

The moment he finished, several others nodded in agreement.

”It’s true that the Town Martial Department’s status in the New District is unshakable!”

”But for them to arrest Guo Hao and the others for a student from the Old District... I refuse to believe there isn’t some connection!”

”It’s probably normal. He was the Martial Arts Examination Champion Scholar from the Old District, so it’s not a problem for them to value him!”

”It’s not as simple as just valuing him. You guys didn’t see it this morning, but I was there. The Left Guard came to make the arrest personally. What kind of incident would be big enough to bring the Left Guard over in person? Think about it!”

At these words,

the other guys all fell silent.

Finally, the senior sitting across from Xu Tai spoke up, ”Whatever his identity is, it has nothing to do with us!”

”I just want to know, he’s not coming to look for Ah Tai to practice again today, is he?”

Hearing this, Xu Tai, who had been eating, felt his hand tremble, nearly dropping his chopsticks.

He quickly looked up toward the main entrance.

A trace of panic flashed in his eyes.

’A one-on-one battle?’

’Sparring martial arts techniques?’

’That’s just the nice way of putting it.’

In Xu Tai’s opinion, his Breaking Army Spear Technique could no longer suppress Lin Yi.

To put it nicely, it was practice. In reality, it was just getting crushed.

The Xu Family’s Spear Technique was famous in the New District. At the very least, it was a renowned technique that the other families were wary of.

Now it had been reduced to being Lin Yi’s training dummy? If word of this got out, would the Xu Family have any face left?

Xu Tai quickly composed himself and whispered, ”If he comes later, just tell him I’m not here. That I went home for closed-door cultivation!”

Hearing this, the guys all looked at each other, at a loss for words.

”President, are you... scared?”

”Scared of what? I just don’t feel like playing with a little brat anymore. All of you, remember what the President said: I went home to cultivate!”

”...”
