The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 264: Chapter 261: Shouldn’t Have Provoked Him

SCREECH—

[Beast. A 3-star Demon Beast...]

Suddenly, a clear cry rang out.

Xiaoqi had contacted Lin Yi through their mental link.

He quickly turned to look into the distance.

In the dark of night, Xiaoqi soared above the city, circling as if to guide Lin Yi.

Lin Yi smiled.

He glanced down again at the two corpses on top of the storefront.

He no longer felt any burden.

’Killing men... killing beasts... what’s the difference? Besides, those three had ill intentions from the start. So what if I killed them?’

Killing someone in Jail City, even the Town Martial Department wouldn’t be able to investigate it here.

Wielding the Black Gold Tiger Head Spear, Lin Yi executed a Body Technique and sped off in Xiaoqi’s direction.

Less than ten minutes after he left, several people arrived on the street.

When they saw the Martial Monk lying on the ground, the bloody hole in his neck was a gruesome sight.

The ground was stained crimson with a large pool of blood.

”He’s dead...”

The Little Fatty stared at the Martial Monk, whose eyes were wide open in death.

His voice trembled as he spoke.

”I can’t believe that Lin Yi is so hard to kill! Even our senior died here!”

”It’s not just one, there are more people up there!”

Suddenly, someone on the roof of the storefront shouted.

Guo Hao and the others quickly ran into the storefront.

When they reached the roof, they saw two more bodies.

The sight made their legs go weak.

The state of their deaths was identical to the Martial Monk’s below.

They had all been killed instantly by a spear.

The one thing they had in common was that their eyes were all wide open, as if they couldn’t rest in peace.

”I told you... we shouldn’t have provoked him. You, you guys just wouldn’t listen! And now, three people are dead...”

Seeing this, the Little Fatty’s composure completely shattered.

The others also stood there, their faces grim.

No one knew what they were thinking.

But the fear in their eyes showed that they were all feeling some regret.

After a long silence, Guo Hao gritted his teeth and said, ”What’s there to be afraid of? Isn’t Senior Han Dong still alive? He’s a 4-star Martial Artist. Killing one Lin Yi should be more than easy for him, right?”

”Did you forget? It seems Lin Yi is also... at the Four-Star Realm!”

Guo Hao: ”...”

An uncontrollable sense of dread began to spread among them.

Even the once-confident Guo Hao now felt a strange fear.

If even Han Dong couldn’t kill Lin Yi, then all they could do was wait for their own deaths.

”No way. Even if something happens to Senior Han Dong, he won’t rat us out!”

”That’s basic professional integrity...”

”Integrity?”

”Guo Hao, what kind of integrity do Han Dong and his men have? When it really comes down to it, you think he wouldn’t sell us out to save his own skin?”

”We never should have provoked Lin Yi in the first place. Now things have gotten to this point, and there’s no way to clean up this mess!”

”It should be fine, right? Even if he knows we hired people to kill him, once we leave this place, he can’t do anything to us. If we hide out at school, what can he possibly do!”

”Right, as long as we leave Jail City, he can’t touch us. Let’s finish the mission quickly and get out of here!”

The group exchanged a look.

None of them dared to linger any longer.

They scrambled down the stairs, ran out of the shop, and quickly vanished into the endless night.

SQUELCH—

The long spear pierced through the demon beast’s body.

Fresh blood gushed out.

[You have slain a 3-star Demon Beast. Plunder its traits?]

The demon beast’s eyes were filled with defiance as it slowly breathed its last.

Lin Yi looked at its corpse and took all of its talent traits.

BUZZ—

His wristband vibrated.

Lin Yi glanced down and saw that one of his mission objectives was now complete.

Then, he stored the demon beast’s corpse in his Storage Ring.

He looked up at Xiaoqi. ”Find one more 3-star Demon Beast, and we can leave this place once the mission is done!”

It spread its wings and flew ahead.

Lin Yi hurried to keep up. He was just one 3-star Demon Beast away from completing his mission.

’The sooner I kill it, the sooner I can go back to sleep.’

However, Lin Yi didn’t know that on a street three blocks away from him,

two people were rushing through the streets and alleys, one after the other.

They were none other than Han Dong and another man.

Their squad originally had five members, but now three had been killed in succession.

Only Han Dong and one other remained.

When he learned that the other three had all lost their vital signs, Han Dong was enraged.

He wanted nothing more than to find Lin Yi right now, flay him alive, and torture him to death bit by bit.

But after running through two streets, he still hadn’t found Lin Yi.

Han Dong slowly came to a stop.

”Brother Dong, this kid is damn strange!”

”We’ve been searching this area for so long and still haven’t found him...”

The man who caught up to him was a bit dazed.

It had been over two hours since they entered.

They had spent the entire time searching for him.

In the end, not only did they fail to find their target, but the other three members of their squad were all killed.

Districts 1-3 were basically the novice zones.

Here, with their realms, they could completely crush demon beasts and aberrant beasts.

Even if they encountered a 3-star Demon Beast, the other three could have easily handled it.

And even if they couldn’t win, escaping shouldn’t have been a problem.

Yet, the three of them had been killed one after another. Other than Lin Yi, Han Dong couldn’t think of anyone else who could have done it.

Fury burned in Han Dong’s eyes.

His squad had been working together for so long.

They had never suffered such a huge loss—three members all killed.

If word of this got out, their reputation would be damaged. Finding three suitable people to fill the vacancies would be as difficult as climbing to heaven.

Most importantly, the brothers had grown close.

”We have to find him, even if we can’t. Even if it’s not for those little bastards, we have to find Lin Yi and get revenge for Li Shun and the others!”

”You go west, I’ll head in the other direction!”

”Hai Long, stay in constant contact with me. If you run into Lin Yi, don’t engage him rashly on your own. Contact me first. After I get there, the two of us will take him down together!”

Although Han Dong was furious,

he hadn’t lost his reason.

He was well aware of the strength of his three fallen teammates.

For the three of them to lose their vital signs one after another, even if they weren’t killed at the same time, the interval couldn’t have been long.

Lin Yi was able to fight one against three and kill them all.

This meant their target was not as simple as they had thought.

Therefore, to be safe, to complete the mission, and to avenge his three brothers,

Han Dong didn’t dare to be careless anymore. He couldn’t bear the thought of his last brother dying as well.

Yang Hailong nodded. ”Don’t worry, Brother Dong!”

”Mm.”

Han Dong said no more, and the two of them split up.

They headed in different directions to continue searching for Lin Yi.

Time ticked by, second by second.

Another hour passed. It was now past one in the morning.

Lin Yi sat on the hood of an abandoned car by the roadside.

Before him was a commercial street, lined with all sorts of shops.

But all these shops had their rolling shutters pulled down.

Not a single one was open.

Lin Yi had been searching the city for a full hour.

He still hadn’t found the second demon beast...

Even with Xiaoqi’s help, he had found nothing.

’What kind of place is this? How can there be so few demon beasts?’

After a long while, Lin Yi let out a deep sigh.

He had spent most of the night just to find one 3-star Demon Beast.

It wasn’t that there were no demon beasts at all.

On his search, Lin Yi had killed five 1-star Demon Beasts and six 2-star Demon Beasts.

He had plundered them all, taking their corpses, Demon Cores, and talents.

But he just couldn’t find a second 3-star Demon Beast.

A moment later, Xiaoqi flapped its wings and landed on Lin Yi’s shoulder.

Lin Yi glanced back at it.

He took out a few pieces of Demon Beast Meat from his Storage Ring.

He first let Xiaoqi replenish its stamina.

After it finished eating the Demon Beast Meat, Lin Yi looked at it.

”How about we search a little more? If we still can’t find a 3-star Demon Beast before dawn, we’ll pull out,” Lin Yi discussed with Xiaoqi.

The next moment, Xiaoqi flapped its wings and took to the sky.

It circled above the street, searching for any sign of a demon beast.

Lin Yi took out a vial of oral solution from his Storage Ring.

It was a compound potion for replenishing stamina.

It was even more expensive than the compound potions that enhanced Qi and Blood.

A grade-1 stamina potion cost around eighty thousand.

A grade-2 potion could cost as much as two hundred thousand.

Moreover, stamina potions were indispensable for students undertaking missions in Jail City.

In a dangerous place like this,

a lack of stamina could easily get you killed.

Lin Yi had been through more than ten fights in a row.

Although he hadn’t reached the point of exhaustion, he had consumed a fair amount of his stamina.

And the night was only half over.

’I’ll drink a potion to recover some stamina. It’s not like I’m short on them, anyway. With an older sister at the Medicine Bureau, I have all kinds of potions.’

As soon as he drank the potion, his expended stamina was immediately restored.

He felt as if he had just been recharged, his stamina now more abundant than ever.

With that, he grabbed his long spear and jumped down from the car’s hood.

After choosing a direction, he continued his search for a 3-star Demon Beast...

On the athletic field of a school,

Han Dong, holding a short blade, slowly slit a student’s throat.

Instantly, blood flowed from the gaping wound.

The student’s eyes bulged wide.

His hands desperately tried to cover the wound on his neck.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stop what was happening.

His strength slowly drained from his body.

His legs gave out, and he collapsed to his knees with a THUD.

Blood had long since stained the front of his clothes a deep crimson.

The light in his pupils was gradually fading...

Han Dong watched impassively as the student died before him.

Only then did he flick the blood from his short blade.

Then, he walked over and removed the wristband from the student’s wrist.

Just as he was about to check what was inside it,

suddenly, a clear cry rang out.

SCREECH—

It pierced the silence of the long night.

Han Dong quickly looked up and saw a large, colorful bird circling overhead.

Seeing this bird, a hint of curiosity appeared in Han Dong’s eyes.

’A demon beast?’

He picked up a longbow from the ground, nocked an arrow, and aimed at the circling Xiaoqi.

He drew the bow to a full moon and let the arrow fly like a shooting star.

SWOOSH—

The arrow shot straight toward Xiaoqi.
