Chapter 53: MSOC: Chapter 53

The morning sun, like scattered gold, bathed the entire Konoha Village.

In front of the Barrier Gate, Kai yawned and stretched.

The battle at Kannabi Bridge was a turning point in the entire Naruto storyline.

Whether he had agreed to Jiraiya’s request, or to address his own chakra deficiency and find the whereabouts of the Three-Tails, to make up for his shortcomings, Kai had to make this trip.

”Hello.”

A sweet voice suddenly echoed.

Kai looked in the direction of the voice. It was Rin.

Fourteen or fifteen-year-old Rin was a standout in Konoha.

Moreover, she was kind and gentle, the object of Obito’s secret crush.

”Are you here for the mission?” Rin couldn’t help but ask.

In her mission scroll, this trip to Kannabi Bridge was only for her, Kakashi, and Obito.

Their teacher, Konoha’s Yellow Flash, Minato Namikaze, was supposed to be leading the team.

Now, there was suddenly someone at the meeting point, making Rin unable to help but ask.

”I guess I was drafted into the team,” Kai said with a faint smile.

Drafted?

Rin was stunned for a moment, then she smiled. ”Don’t worry. With Minato-sensei and Kakashi, we’ll be safe.”

”I’ll tell you a secret. Kakashi became a Jōnin today. That’s a symbol of strength.”

As she spoke, Rin couldn’t help but look Kai up and down.

”So, you’re a Chunin just like me. Is this your first mission? No wonder you’re here so early. Are you nervous? Don’t worry, I’m a medical ninja. If anything happens, I’ll treat you properly.”

Looking at Rin, who was so enthusiastic, Kai couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

This was a complete airhead.

No wonder so many people liked her!

She was so familiar right away, and she kept talking about getting injured. If he hadn’t been in a good mood, he would have slapped her twice.

”By the way, when did you graduate? Kakashi is amazing!” Rin continued to talk to herself.

Kai looked helplessly at the bushes beside him. ”Kakashi, come out if you’re here. If you wait any longer, my ears will be calloused.”

Kakashi?

Rin was stunned for a moment, then she quickly saw a black shadow flash from the bushes beside her, directly charging towards Kai.

His speed was incredible. He covered the short distance of ten meters in the blink of an eye.

Before Rin could react, the chakra blade in Kakashi’s hand instantly unsheathed.

It transformed into a white light, charging towards Kai.

”Kakashi, no!” Rin exclaimed.

However, the next moment, her expression froze.

Lightning crackled around Kai, then he vanished into thin air.

The chakra blade in Kakashi’s hand instantly missed its target.

He had just steadied himself when he felt a sense of danger behind him.

A blade, radiating coldness, stopped at his neck.

”Don’t move. My blade is very sharp,” Kai smiled warmly.

However, this smile made Rin and Kakashi’s pupils contract.

That speed was too fast!

”Kai, can’t you show a little mercy? I was just a little late. You’re being rude to my student,” Minato Namikaze appeared beside Kai, like a ghost, using the Flying Thunder God Technique.

Seeing Minato Namikaze and Kai acting like equals, the confusion on Kakashi and Rin’s faces deepened.

”Minato, you have the nerve to be late. If you had come earlier, I wouldn’t have been misunderstood, and I wouldn’t have bothered to make a move,” Kai retracted his lightning blade and stored it in his scroll.

Looking at the dumbfounded Kakashi and Rin, he scratched his nose and said, ”Minato, I think you should explain.”

Kai didn’t care about Kakashi’s hostility.

His father had died, so it was normal for him to be a little twisted.

Moreover, in this almost invincible and boring life, having these fearless little kids spice things up was quite nice.

As soon as he finished speaking, Kakashi and Rin couldn’t help but look at Minato Namikaze.

”I’m, sorry, I’m not late, am I?”

A hurried shout came from a distance.

Then they saw Obito, wearing an eye patch, jump in front of Kakashi.

”You’re already late,” Kakashi said coldly. ”But we’re not in the mood to deal with you now.”

”Minato-sensei, mission completion requires rules. When we took the mission, it clearly stated a four-person team. Why is there now a person of unknown origin?”

Looking at Kakashi, who had only one track mind and dared to confront even Minato Namikaze, Kai couldn’t help but laugh.

The fact that he had repelled the Cloud and Mist ninjas was only known to Konoha’s high-ranking officials and some of the Uchiha clan’s high-ranking members.

For Kakashi and the others, it was still a secret.

”You’re Uchiha Kai?” Obito, as a member of the Uchiha clan, and a nobody in the clan, knew a little about his clan brother who had awakened the Sharingan.

”You, weren’t you sent to defend the northwest stronghold? Why are you here?”

Kai searched his remaining memories and found that this Kai and Obito had a bit of a friendship.

So, he wasn’t surprised to know that he had taken on the mission.

However, now that such a big change had suddenly occurred, it was difficult for Kai to explain to Obito.

”Ahem, Obito, don’t be rude,” Minato Namikaze coughed.

He didn’t know how to explain either. He couldn’t tell them that the Uchiha Kai in front of them was a hidden genius who had been a lazy bum for ten years.

He had not only returned from the northwest stronghold, but he had also used the Mangekyō Sharingan to defeat everything in his path.

”Minato-sensei, did I say something wrong?” Obito couldn’t help but rub his eyes. ”I just saw an old lady trying to cross the road, so I went to do a good deed. That’s why I was late.”

”And then, sand got in my eye.”

Looking at Obito, who was wearing an eye patch and still talking about sand getting in his eye, Kai couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

He should have come up with a more convincing excuse.

”Alright, the time is just right. It’s rare for Kakashi not to argue with you this time. We should leave. We can talk about anything else on the way,” Minato Namikaze looked at Kai, paused, and said, ”I have three things to announce today.”

”First, welcome Jōnin Elite Kai to our team.”
