Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1542 1542: Azure Tree

From the very beginning, the energy led Adam and Alexia here—to the Frost Oasis, where their next conditions for the Third Grand Star awaited them.

Before the second trial, Adam had the opportunity to catch a glimpse of this territory, but now, they could both see the Frost Oasis, the one the Head Golem had warned them about at the very beginning.

Step. Step. Step.

Alexia stepped forward, standing next to Adam as they passed through the gate. Far below, they could see a small but extremely bright pond where all the energy of this world seemed to be concentrated.

For a moment, it seemed to them that there was even more energy in this small pond than at Heaven Island, where Queen Elisa herself was located.

”Is this the Frost Oasis...?” Alexia muttered as her gaze was fixed on a single point, noticing nothing else but it.

Adam didnʼt answer, but he felt the same way. He didnʼt know if it was just a cluster of energy or the Ancient Frost that Alexia needed, but he felt like he was in a room full of treasures.

But soon, they noticed something else.

”What the...?” Alexia gasped as she looked at the huge head of a lizard.

No, it was neither a lizard nor a wyvern. It was the head of a dragon, a real one. Its thick skin covered with numerous blue scales was stretched over its skull bones, showing that the dragon was either long dead or in a state of terminal exhaustion.

At least, those were Alexiaʼs first thoughts, because soon, Adam pointed out another detail.

”Look, his story was long over.” Adam pointed to the dragonʼs head, directing Alexiaʼs gaze to its bones sticking out, which were actually the dragonʼs neck.

The dragon had no body, nowhere to hide, as its head was right under the rock, and its exposed neck was clearly visible.

Adam looked around, leaving open the possibility that parts of the dragonʼs body might be somewhere nearby and that all this was part of some dark ritual, but his fears were not to come true.

On the left side of the cave was a lone tree with a snow-white trunk full of energy and a blue crown. It was still a weak sapling, not a great tree.

But...

Soon, the magical picture in Adamʼs eyes shattered when he noticed one detail.

Bones and body parts, both of monsters and humans, were scattered on the ground next to the azure tree, and the white roots of the tree wandered across the ground, feeding on its energy and blood.

”Huh, this tree looks like an angel, but in reality feeds on the death of others?” Adamʼs voice trembled. He did not expect this from this place.

Alexia tilted her head to the side.

”So...” She touched her lips. ”What next? I didnʼt know what to expect, and I canʼt say Iʼm disappointed, but I donʼt see any enemies or the Ancient Frost I came here for.”

Tap.

Louis appeared behind her and put his hand on her shoulder.

”Weʼre almost there. Just use your energy as you did before. The Winding Fragments, right? That should lead you to your goal!”

This advice worked for both of them.

Adam and Alexia closed their eyes as they saw the frost portal again that had brought them from the Citadel right here.

But... it didnʼt have the same effect on both of them now.

In Alexiaʼs case, the energy led her straight to a glowing pond, as if the Ancient Frost was right there, or at least it was the first step to a new power for her.

”Agh?” Adam blinked several times, confusion reflected on his face.

”Something wrong?” Alexia raised an eyebrow as she nodded forward. ”I need to go to that pond, just as I thought from the beginning. Hey, Iʼm sure itʼs leading you to the dragonʼs head, right?”

Instead of an answer, she saw only Adamʼs lost expression. He didnʼt know where he needed to go.

”Is that how itʼs supposed to be...?” His voice faltered. ”The energy, it leads me forward as if the entire Frost Oasis is filled with the Blood of God, but thereʼs nothing here. Why does your energy show you the exact path, but mine doesnʼt?”

Adam frowned as he took a step forward. He hoped that if he got closer, the energy would show him the way.

However, nothing changed.

”W-Why?”

Adam stood in the middle of the cave, looking around. It was a huge space, but the energy indicated that this was where the Blood of God was located. This was one of the conditions for the Third Grand Star.

Bam!

Suddenly, Alexiaʼs palm slammed into his back with such force that the sound echoed throughout the cave.

”Argh!”

Adam grunted in pain. It felt like a fiery whip had struck his back, not the girlʼs palm.

”What the fuck?!” He gritted his teeth in anger.

Alexia gave him a satisfied smirk.

”Huh, youʼre not the first one, and youʼre already complaining? Come on, letʼs get the Ancient Frost first, then weʼll take care of your condition. Iʼm sure it has something to do with the dragonʼs head! Iʼm never wrong!”

Twitch. Twitch. Twitch.

Adamʼs eyebrow twitched. He wanted to strangle her at that moment, but he couldnʼt help but admit that Alexia had a point.

Even if his energy was scattered now, and it was unknown where the Blood of God was, if they did everything gradually, they would definitely figure it out in time.

”Alright, letʼs take the Ancient Frost and move on.”

”Huh, what a mood!” Alexia exclaimed with a big smile on her face and stepped forward.

She didnʼt stop, intending to jump off the cliff straight to the Frost Oasis, but...

THUMP!

She crashed into an invisible wall.

”Damn it!” Alexia grabbed her reddened forehead as Adamʼs expression instantly turned serious.

The runes flashed through the air, revealing a dome that covered both the Frost Oasis and the dragonʼs head, but did not encompass the azure tree.

[The last trial begins!]

Unexpectedly, the Ancient Voice sounded again as the gates behind them closed with a loud bang.

[Destroy all enemies if you want to survive!]

They glanced at each other only to see a wave of energy come out of the azure tree and the ground shake.

Their enemies were already here, long before them.
