Chapter 338: Chapter 338: The Simple Firebird

He could only stare helplessly. Lin Yun had no designs on this Pure-blooded Firebird; with his current strength, he was no match for it. Besides, even if he managed to kill it, he wouldn’t dare refine its Essence Blood right now. The Essence Blood of a Pure-blooded Demon Beast was exceptionally violent, and this one was a Tier Four Demon Beast on top of that.

After staring for a moment, Lin Yun knew he had wandered into the territory of Tier Four Demon Beasts. He stood no chance here. He might as well return to the outer regions to hunt Tier Three Demon Beasts.

Just as Lin Yun was about to leave, the Pure-blooded Firebird, which had been lying there lazily, suddenly spoke in a human tongue. ”Someone actually dared to enter Demon Beast Ridge? HAHA! It’s been ages since I’ve eaten a human.”

Hearing the Firebird’s voice, Lin Yun, who had already turned to leave, immediately broke into a full sprint. ’What the hell?!’ he thought. ’So this thing noticed me a long time ago and was just putting on a show.’

’Damn it, do all the Demon Beasts in this Demon Beast Ridge have some kind of sick sense of humor?’ Lin Yun sprinted for his life, not daring to stop for a single moment. Forget him—even Puzhu would likely be no match for this Firebird.

”Still trying to run?” Watching Lin Yun’s back, the Firebird flapped its enormous wings, and a ferocious gust of wind instantly blasted Lin Yun dozens of meters away.

He slammed hard onto the ground. Before Lin Yun could even get up, the Pure-blooded Firebird was already standing before him. Its fiery red feathers blazed like a roaring fire, and wisps of Flame escaped its beak as it spoke.

”Boy, speak. How do you want to die?” The Firebird looked vicious, and combined with its enormous size, it indeed exerted an immense pressure.

Little Ape, who had been sleeping soundly in Lin Yun’s robes, was thoroughly dazed by the fall. It crawled out, took one look at the Firebird, and let out a furious roar.

While roaring, Little Ape pointed and gestured wildly at the Firebird with its claws.

The fist-sized Little Ape that had suddenly emerged from Lin Yun’s robes was as insignificant as a grain of sand in front of the massive Firebird.

”Little monkey, what did you say? I am a Pure-blooded Demon Beast, yet you dare claim my bloodline is inferior?” Listening to Little Ape’s roars, the Firebird bellowed in a rage.

A mere Tier Two Demon Beast daring to call its bloodline inferior? This was more than enough to infuriate the Firebird.

In response to the enraged Firebird, Little Ape released its own Bloodline Power. Although Little Ape’s Bloodline Power was currently too weak to affect the Firebird, the great beast could still clearly sense a noble bloodline that was far superior to its own.

As a Pure-blooded Demon Beast, the Firebird’s understanding of bloodlines was far more profound than that of an ordinary Demon Beast. It also knew just how terrifying a creature with a superior bloodline could become once it fully matured.

After a moment of stunned silence, the Firebird ignored Little Ape and turned its vicious glare back to Lin Yun. ”Human, speak. How do you want to die?”

Under normal circumstances, Lin Yun should have turned tail and run from this Firebird. But now, a cunning smile flickered in his eyes as he met the beast’s gaze.

’Logically speaking,’ he mused, ’if this Firebird really wanted to kill me, it wouldn’t have to put in this much effort.’

Moreover, he could tell from its expression that the Firebird was just bluffing.

In other words, the Firebird wasn’t nearly as vicious as it made itself out to be. And because of that, Lin Yun wasn’t nearly as nervous as he should have been.

Lin Yun’s guess was spot on. This Pure-blooded Firebird was, in fact, quite naive. To put it simply, ever since being subdued by Luo Feng, it had never left Demon Beast Ridge.

Aside from when Luo Feng took it out, it had practically never left the ridge. And within Demon Beast Ridge, it was the sole Pure-blooded Demon Beast, long accustomed to being the unrivaled ruler.

Unlike the Demon Beasts of the outside world, this Firebird was, in human terms, a complete novice. It had no real-world experience and was utterly naive.

”How about we do something interesting together?” Lin Yun asked with a smile.

The Firebird didn’t seem to process the words at first. Then, seeing the wide grin on Lin Yun’s face, it roared, ”Cunning human! I won’t fall for your tricks! Just tell me how you want to die!”

The Firebird did its best to maintain its ferocious facade, but to Lin Yun, its act was as childish as a game of make-believe.

”HA HA! Then I wonder, do you have the guts to make a bet with me?” Lin Yun laughed, deciding to provoke it.

When it came to cunning, the Firebird was out of its league. Who was Lin Yun? Don’t let his youth fool you; having lived two lives, it was no exaggeration to call him a wily old fox.

Sure enough, Lin Yun’s provocation worked. The Firebird immediately roared, ”What’s there to be afraid of? What’s the bet?”

’Hook, line, and sinker!’ Lin Yun laughed inwardly. ’This Firebird really is simple-minded.’ A faint smile touched his lips as he said coolly, ”I plan to live in Demon Beast Ridge for one year. If, during that year, you can do everything I tell you to do, then after the year is up, you can do with me as you please. Do you dare?”

”What’s there to dare? Fine! For one year, I’ll listen to you. We’ll see if I don’t swallow you whole when the year is up!” Without a moment’s hesitation, the Firebird agreed.

’This Firebird is so gullible.’ With just a few sentences, he had it wrapped around his little finger.

The reason Lin Yun had proposed this bet was simple: he wanted to use the Firebird to help him hunt the other Demon Beasts in Demon Beast Ridge.

Lin Yun could tell that this Firebird was not only naive, but also had a lawless, arrogant, and wild personality.

This personality was probably a product of its environment. It had never survived in the outside world, living its whole life in Demon Beast Ridge. As the only Pure-blooded Demon Beast around, not a single creature in the entire ridge would dare to offend it.

By grasping these key points, Lin Yun had easily managed to lead the Firebird by the nose.

”Alright. Since you’ve agreed, you’ll stick with me from now on,” Lin Yun said calmly, forcibly suppressing his inner glee. ”And remember, if you can’t fulfill any of my requests, you lose.”

Hearing this, the Firebird replied briskly, ”Fine. But you’d better remember, if I win, you’re at my mercy one year from now.”

”No problem,” Lin Yun replied.

Inwardly, Lin Yun wasn’t the least bit worried about what would happen in a year. He had countless ways to handle a naive Demon Beast like this. Besides, he’d already been in Demon Beast Ridge for over a month; he wouldn’t need a whole year before he could leave.

Having a Tier Four Pure-blooded Firebird hunt Demon Beasts for him... just the thought of it was exhilarating for Lin Yun. From now on, wouldn’t Demon Beast Essence Blood practically fall from the sky?
