Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Che Huan screamed in fright and fainted again.

The little dog blinked its innocent eyes as if making an appeal. Was it really that scary?

After watching Che Huan for a while, it squatted beside her, its two front paws nervously scratching at the ground.

When Che Huan came to, it barked twice immediately.

Che Huan noticed the sky had grown very dark, and the thought of being surrounded by dead bodies made her shiver uncontrollably; fortunately, she had the company of the little dog.

It hadn’t left yet.

The little dog bit at Che Huan’s sleeve and ran to one side, barking ”woof woof”.

Che Huan glanced over and saw a person lying in the direction the dog was barking at!

She didn’t know if they were dead or alive, but it would have been so much better if they were alive.

Standing up, she walked slowly, step by step, toward the person lying on the ground, her lips trembling incessantly.

In the quiet of the night, aside from the sound of insects, her swallowing was quite clear!

The little dog kept barking ”woof woof”; as she approached and squatted down, she moved in closer but still couldn’t tell if the person was dead. Suddenly, she felt a hand grip hers tightly, scaring her into a scream as she fell to the ground, limply.

This time, she didn’t faint!

She so wished she could just faint and be oblivious to everything, no longer afraid!

Soon, the hand slowly let go.

Qin Huan’s scalp prickled, but the little dog’s incessant ”woof woof” barks gave her a bit more courage.

She moved closer, kneeling, and in the moonlight saw the man’s face smeared with dirt. Her finger trembled as she reached out towards the man’s nostrils.

Feeling his breath, she finally exhaled, ”Can... can you hear me talking?”

”...”

The wind rustling in the trees was the only response.

Che Huan glanced around and, seeing a group of dead bodies, involuntarily snuggled closer to this lone living person beside her.

The little dog barked ”woof woof” once, tugging at the man’s body.

After a while, it pulled a cellphone out from the man’s clothes and threw it on the ground, barking at Che Huan ”woof woof”.

Che Huan swallowed, seeing the little dog look at her, then at the phone repeatedly, ”Are you telling me to make a call?”

The little dog calmed down, wagging its tail.

Che Huan was amazed; it actually understood what she was saying!

She picked up the phone and after some thought, she dialed 110. Unable to give precise directions, she just described the general location and then sat there, waiting.

An hour went by, and still no one came.

She kept looking around, always feeling that something was behind her. Thankfully, there was the little dog and a man who hadn’t completely died to keep her company. Otherwise, she felt she would go insane in this eerie place!

...

Two hours later, she faintly heard the sound of a police siren.

The little dog’s ”woof woof” grew louder and more urgent, as it jumped back and forth.

The cellphone that Che Huan clenched in her hand also rang. She answered it, and hearing the police officer’s voice, she quickly said, ”I can hear you.”

...

”I don’t know which direction it is, just that it’s a village.”

...

”I don’t have a flashlight, but there’s a little dog here that’s been barking continuously.”

No sooner had she finished speaking than the dog’s barking intensified, and the sound of the siren seemed to get closer. She hastily said, ”I hear the sound of the siren getting closer.”

About fifteen minutes later, the police car, following the sound of the dog’s barking, stopped around the courtyard.

In an instant, the headlights and flashlights in the officers’ hands made the surroundings as bright as daytime.

Che Huan, who had been holding her breath all this while, finally took a deep gasp of relief and slumped to the ground, suddenly unable to move anymore.
