Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Wen Nuan listened with glee, a million, should she win it all or not?

With such good luck, she might as well only win from Qin Shaojin in the future!

She began blissfully drawing tiles; this round was a Pure Suit.

Seeing Qin Huan discard a tile that she could have claimed for a win, Yunshang held back, drew an East Wind, glanced at Qin Shaojin downstream, and tossed it out.

Qin Shaojin, ”Kong!”

He drew another tile, fiddled with it between his fingers for a while, looked at it again, and threw it out.

Wen Nuan took a glance, but it wasn’t the tile she needed for a win; she felt a bit disappointed.

Then it came to Shen You and Yu Zimu, ”Six of bamboos!”

Wen Nuan looked down at her own tiles, counted them, and confirmed that indeed she could win with either a Six or Nine of bamboos. But claiming Nine would complete a straight from One to Nine, gaining her even more!

Besides, she wanted to win off Qin Shaojin!

So she didn’t lift her head and focused on her own tiles.

Qin Huan discarded a Nine of bamboos.

Wen Nuan didn’t make a sound, just reached out to draw another tile, but Qin Shaojin said, ”Hold on,” threw out two Nines of bamboos, picked up the one in the discard pool with his elegant fingers, and placed it next to his pair.

After a round of play, Qin Shaojin drew another Nine of bamboos and immediately threw it out.

Wen Nuan had thought she had no chance left and sulked, her little face downturned, but when she saw Qin Shaojin’s tile just leave his hand, she eagerly grabbed it and exclaimed joyfully, ”Hu!”

She pushed down her tiles, very pleased to see her own little mountain grow higher, while Qin Shaojin’s chips dwindled.

Like this, even if others set her up for a win, Wen Nuan wouldn’t take it, only waiting for Qin Shaojin to feed her the winning tile.

Shaonan watched from the side, finding it strange that every time she switched the tile she was waiting to win on, Xiaosan managed to throw it right into her lap.

Wen Nuan kept winning, occasionally losing by dealer’s choice, but the losses weren’t too big.

Shen You and Yu Zimu hadn’t won a hand and tried to emulate Wen Nuan’s strategy, only to lose even more miserably, watching their chips get pushed over to Qin Huan and Wen Nuan.

Qin Shaojin had it even worse, having to exchange his chips over and over!

By eight in the evening, Huo Jinnan lifted his wrist to check his watch, ”That’s about enough, let’s call it a day.”

Wen Nuan, having had a great time, looked cheerfully at the waiter, ”Help me exchange these chips for cash.”

The waiter looked at Wen Nuan, ”Miss Wen, would you like cash or a cheque?”

A cheque seemed too high-end for her; she wouldn’t recognize it!

Wen Nuan looked at the waiter, ”I’ll take cash.”

The waiter looked at Wen Nuan, ”It might be over three million.”

Huo Jinnan looked at the waiter, ”Write her a cheque.”

As he finished speaking, his gaze fell on Wen Nuan, ”You can just go to the bank and exchange it, transfer it to a bank account.”

Upon hearing her brother-in-law say this, Wen Nuan felt relieved, nodded, and looked at the waiter, ”Alright then, give me a cheque.”

Thinking about the three million, she sat there, feeling as if she were floating. She looked at Shen You, Yu Zimu, and Qin Shaojin, ”Next time you guys play mahjong, remember to call me, okay?”

Shen You and Yu Zimu, ”...”

Qin Shaojin glanced at the measly one chip remaining in front of him, not expecting he would be the one to lose so badly!

He looked at Wen Nuan, ”Alright, we’ll include you next time we play.”

Seeing the waiter bring the cheque, Wen Nuan took it, saw the 3.86 million total, and smiled so widely she could hardly close her mouth— she was rich, strike that, super-rich!

If she played mahjong with them more often, could she become a wealthy lady?

...

Once outside Yunshang, Yu Zimu took the initiative, ”Nuannuan, it’s not very safe for you to carry so much money back home. Shall I escort you back?”
