Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Half an hour later, they arrived at Muhe Hospital.

After the checkup, Shen Mubai looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Brother Huo, it’s anemia.”

He glanced at the blood test report again, ”The hemoglobin is a bit low, and it’s only in the early stages of pregnancy. Come back in half a month, so I can keep an eye on things. If the situation gets worse...

He paused, then pushed up his glasses, ”Brother Huo, you’d better be mentally prepared.”

Huo Jinnan looked at Shen Mubai and lit a cigarette, ”Okay, she’s really looking forward to this child. Let’s see how it goes. If you think the situation is not good, let me know in time.”

Shen Mubai looked down at the report, ”The general symptoms of anemia in pregnant women can be summarized as fatigue, pale complexion, palpitations, loss of appetite, etc. Which symptoms does sister-in-law have?”

Huo Jinnan looked at Shen Mubai, ”Fatigue and drowsiness, pale face, appetite is still okay.”

Shen Mubai put down the blood test report, ”Hmm, it seems okay, just mild anemia. Make more of what she likes to eat, something refreshing.”

Huo Jinnan took a heavy drag on his cigarette, ”What about the severe cases?”

Shen Mubai looked at Huo Jinnan, ”Mouth ulcers, glossitis, dry skin and hair, hair loss, sallow complexion, edema, weakness, dizziness, palpitations, poor stomach appetite, shortness of breath, and other symptoms. Often feeling tired, wanting to sleep, having no energy throughout the body—these are the earliest symptoms that appear in an anemic person.”

...

Back in the ward, Che Huan lay there, pale-faced.

Huo Jinnan walked over, stood by the bed, and looked down at Che Huan.

There Che Huan lay, biting her lip, gazing out the window, feeling an inexplicable discomfort—just misery!

For so many years, she had never understood her mother and hadn’t expected her mother to have suffered so much humiliation.

Thinking of Huo Jinyun’s words, tears streamed down her cheeks.

Huo Jinnan raised his hand but felt Che Huan flinch slightly, so he stopped.

The little guy looked at Huo Jinnan, ”You go out first.”

Huo Jinnan glanced at the little one and left the ward. He sat on the sofa in the suite’s living room, smoking.

The little guy glanced in Huo Jinnan’s direction, and suddenly felt a bit of sympathy for this usually annoying Huo Jinnan.

He looked at Che Huan, climbed onto the bed, helped her wipe away tears with his small hands, and said softly, ”Huanhuan, be good, don’t cry.”

Che Huan took a deep breath and hugged the little guy tightly in her arms.

The little guy pursed his lips and wrapped his small arms around Che Huan’s neck, ”Huanhuan, from now on, I’ll protect you and Grandma with Huo Jinnan.”

Che Huan choked up and gave an ”Mhm,” then pulled the little one close, looked at him, and kissed his forehead.

The little guy sat next to Che Huan, hugging his arms, ”Huanhuan, shall I sing you a song?”

”Mhm.”

Che Huan watched the little guy. Originally feeling cold throughout her body, she gradually warmed up bit by bit.

The little guy looked at Che Huan and, not knowing what to sing since he wasn’t good at it, eventually mustered up the courage and started singing the ubiquitous ”Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” ”Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are! Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky. Twinkle, twinkle, little star, how I wonder what you are...”

After singing for a while, Che Huan joined in with the little guy.

Thinking back to her childhood, she would always sit alone in her room at night, afraid to sleep without her father or mother, and she would sing ”Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” to herself to muster courage.

She always sang until she drifted off to sleep in a daze.
