Beast Taming: I Can Add Points

The training grounds.

”Hey, you’re Su Zhi, right? I’m Liu Junpo from the class of ’10. I’m also one of Teacher Zhou’s students.”

”It’s good to meet you, Senior Brother Piao!”

Su Zhi and Senior Brother Piao shook hands amicably. ’This time, it’s a real senior brother,’ he thought.

Just as Old Ban had said, Senior Brother Piao was wearing floral shorts and flip-flops, and his hair was a mess. He really did look unkempt.

On closer inspection, though, he was actually a little handsome, kind of like Stephen Chow.

Su Zhi rubbed his hands together in excitement.

’In novels, characters with this kind of setup are always like the sweeping monk.’

You think he’s a scrub, but the next second he might just summon a giant dragon to sit on you and crush you.

”Woof woof!” Yu Bao wagged his tail excitedly.

’We just finished one fight, and now we get another one right away! I can’t believe my luck!’

Then, both of their gazes fell on the sports drink in Su Zhi’s hand.

”Ah, well. I didn’t do anything, but I still worked hard.”

Liu Junpo laughed and took the drink.

Su Zhi: ”...”

’So this guy is socially awkward, huh?’

It didn’t matter, though. He’d bought it to reward his sparring partner anyway.

As for that Huang Mao from before? Who the hell was that guy?

”Teacher Zhou told me you’re a kid with a lot of ideas.”

Liu Junpo raised an eyebrow. ”I hear you like to come up with your own skillsets for your Pet Beast?”

”Not exactly,” Su Zhi said, looking at Yu Bao. ”I just want my Pet Beast to find the path that suits him best, instead of blindly following a standard template.”

”You really do have your own ideas.”

Liu Junpo crushed the empty bottle and sank a three-pointer into the trash can.

”So, do you know what the main difficulty in doing that is?”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Su Zhi said, ”Actual combat.”

Liu Junpo snapped his fingers.

”Exactly. Only by accumulating enough combat experience can you discover your Pet Beast’s characteristics and tactical inclinations, and then choose the most suitable Skills.”

’It’s because I can farm more Points from real battles...’ Su Zhi mused, tucking his hands away.

Of course, what Senior Brother Piao said wasn’t wrong either.

Even with the ability to add Points, combat experience was still an incredibly important part of the process.

”Okay, since we’re on the same page, let’s get down to business.”

Su Zhi’s mouth fell open. ”Huh? Isn’t there supposed to be some plot development first?”

”Nope. It’s PVP time.”

Immediately after, a light-blue Light Array began to flicker and shine in front of Liu Junpo.

Su Zhi’s expression turned serious.

Light blue was the sign of a Tier Four Beast Taming Space—this unassuming Senior Brother Piao was an Advanced Beast Tamer!

Someone stronger than a high school grunt or a college grunt, the legendary...

Grad-school grunt!

However, when he saw the big green ball fly out of the Light Array, Su Zhi froze on the spot.

[Pet Beast: Wanzi (Cyan Cloud Group)]

[Attribute: Wind Element, Mental Element]

[Race: Low Level Elite]

[Real-time Energy Value: 300]

”Jii!”

The big green ball blinked its button-like eyes and gave Yu Bao a friendly greeting.

”*Pant, pant*~” Yu Bao responded by wagging his tail.

Liu Junpo gave a thumbs-up. ”Alright, let’s start.”

”...Are you sure?” Su Zhi scratched his head.

The Cyan Cloud Group was one of the two great shames among Pet Beasts on Blue Star. Few people ever formed a contract with these harmless-looking big balls; they were usually bought by girls to keep as pets.

That was because it had almost no combat ability, other than being able to kill people with cuteness...

”Looking down on Wanzi?”

The corners of Liu Junpo’s mouth quirked up. ”Loser buys the next sports drink, okay?”

”Jii!” (Take this!)

Wanzi, who had been greeting Yu Bao just a second ago, suddenly changed its expression and came crashing over with a WHOOSH.

Yu Bao quickly ducked to dodge.

The Cyan Cloud Group slammed violently into a small tree, snapping it in half at the trunk.

Su Zhi was dumbfounded.

He even wondered if this Senior Brother Piao could also add Points...

’Are Cyan Cloud Groups really this hard-headed?!’

”(ㅇㅇ) Woof?” (The hell?)

Yu Bao looked back with lingering fear, only to see Wanzi let out a cry and fly over again.

Yu Bao was flabbergasted.

’It just broke a tree that thick, and it doesn’t even have any recovery lag?!’

”Yu Bao, focus! Full power on the Earth Force Field! This Cyan Cloud Group is no weaker than Xiaoyue!”

”Woof!”

Yu Bao didn’t need Su Zhi’s reminder to see it.

’If nothing else, getting hit by that thing would probably hurt like hell!’

”Dodge in a curved path! Block it with the Earth Force Field!”

”Woof!”

Yu Bao and Su Zhi’s minds were in sync. The Earth Force Field activated instantly, causing the surrounding ground to rise up and block the Cyan Cloud Group’s approach.

However, the situation did not improve as Su Zhi had expected.

The raised earth was like a mere decoration to Wanzi, offering almost no resistance.

Under Wanzi’s ”Iron Head” technique, the stone walls created by the Earth Force Field were smashed to pieces one by one, and Wanzi only slowed down slightly.

Instead of shaking Wanzi off, Yu Bao’s curved path only allowed Wanzi to close the distance even faster.

Su Zhi cursed inwardly. ’This is bad.’

The Cyan Cloud Group was a Wind Element Pet Beast. It could manipulate the surrounding air currents to reduce the effects of inertia, making its sudden stops and sharp turns as smooth as silk.

On the other hand, Yu Bao had to rely on his four legs. Even with bonus Points in agility, he couldn’t outmaneuver Wanzi!

”Yu Bao, jump and use Sandstorm! Don’t resist the recoil!”

”Woof!”

In the nick of time, Yu Bao leaped into the air, turned, and unleashed a Sandstorm.

The raging sandstorm slammed into the Cyan Cloud Group at point-blank range, erupting with far more power than usual.

Wanzi was enveloped by the sand.

Meanwhile, Yu Bao used the powerful recoil to launch himself a great distance away, successfully creating space between him and the Cyan Cloud Group.

He landed.

Without stopping for a moment, the Dog turned tail and ran.

He knew without even thinking that his Sandstorm couldn’t have hurt Wanzi at all!

WHOOSH—

Sure enough, the Cyan Cloud Group flew out from the sandstorm moments later, its surface covered in a faint silvery light. It didn’t even have a scratch.

”Jii!” (Stop! Let me have a look!)

”QAQ WOOF!!” (Don’t come over here!)

The Cyan Cloud Group gave chase, and Yu Bao fled.

It was strangely reminiscent of the scene from his spar with the Little Black Fighting Emperor...

Except back then, Yu Bao had been the one doing the taunting. Now, he was the one who couldn’t get away.

Su Zhi’s heart was in his throat.

The Cyan Cloud Group’s Real-time Energy Value was a whole chunk lower than Yu Bao’s, and it didn’t have any flashy Skills.

But the thing was just too damn tough; Yu Bao couldn’t damage it...

”Yu Bao, don’t panic. We still have Desert Concealment,” Su Zhi said in a low voice.

”Woof?” (Use Desert Concealment to get away?)

”No, just the opposite. We’re going to pull a Cobra Maneuver!”

”Use Desert Concealment in the opposite direction to let Wanzi charge past us, and then—hit it with a Sandstorm!”

”Woof!” (Understood!)

SHH—

Yu Bao feigned exhaustion and slowed down, then activated Desert Concealment the instant Wanzi got close.

The Little Yu Dian Dog’s body dissolved into countless grains of sand, scattered past the Cyan Cloud Group, and then reformed and converged behind it.

Liu Junpo nodded, somewhat surprised. ”Not bad!”

”Woof!” (This Dog is no pushover, either!)

Yu Bao smugly prepared to unleash his Sandstorm...

Only to see that Wanzi had somehow already turned around, its little button-like black eyes twinkling.

”(•́ω•̀) Jii?”

’So, you think you’re pretty tough, huh?’

Yu Bao: Σ(ﾟ∀ﾟ)

’Uhm, Brother Wanzi, I...’

”Jii!”

”WOOF WOOF—!”

SPLAT.

Yu Bao was brutally suppressed, sat on and pinned to the ground by Wanzi’s butt.

”...But not that much,” Senior Brother Piao leisurely added the second half of his sentence.
