Armipotent

Chapter 1940: Sense of Duty (1)

Tang Shaoyang had seen them coming from afar, seeing them through the Chaos Eyes. Artras also kept him updated about what happened in the city. Things exactly went as he predicted where Benedict or Albin tried to kill the people he sent to deliver a message. Fortunately, Bran was not a pushover as he managed to avoid the three massive meteors. Artras almost made a move to save him, but Bran could handle it by himself.

Tang Shaoyang faced toward where the army was and squinted his eyes. He found Young Lord Albin, but Benedict was not in the group. That meant Benedict stayed behind in the city and most likely did something behind them while his two brothers were away from the city. Benedict might crown himself while the two brothers were away.

The group arrived and the two Grand Generals immediately approached with suspicion and surprise. These might still have a suspicion of him or something, but he did not care about them. Volans and Blaise Osmond should take care of these two Grand Generals for him. He did not want to get pestered by two old men.

”I have heard what happened from Captain Bran,” Grand General Senton, the only one Tang Shaoyang knew, said in a heavy tone.

”That’s good then. I don’t have to explain anything anymore, and you can ask Bran or Volans or Old Man Osmond if you want more details,” Tang Shaoyang signaled his knights to make their move to finish their unfinished business.

Jovrick, Ruben, Mathias, and Nikolas spread out in four different directions. The sudden movement surprised the army, and they subconsciously raised their weapons. However, they were relieved the four knights did not come for them. Gianni approached the army, walking past the two Grand Generals. The two Grand Generals were alarmed because the seven spears were floating behind Gianni. That was a sign that Gianni was about to fight, and he was approaching the army.

”What’s the meaning of this, Tang Shaoyang!” Grand General Marko raised his voice.

”Finishing the unfinished business,” Tang Shaoyang shrugged, ”Young Lord Albin made an excuse by saying that his people could not fight because of an emergency mission. The war is over, and there’s no more emergency mission, and Gianni wants to finish the duel.”

”The war is not over yet!” Grand General Senton raised his voice, and Gianni stopped his steps, ”We still need to retake the cities the Dominion occupied. The war is not over until we drive the Dominion out of the Eptas Monarchy!”

”Oh, don’t worry about it. The Dominion loses ninety-nine percent of its soldiers. It should be easy for you to retake those cities, and I can guarantee you as well that we killed more than two hundred God Ranks in the army. For what we have done, Gianni deserves his reward to finish the duel for what he has contributed to the monarchy, no?” Tang Shaoyang smiled at Grand General Senton.

”If you can’t retake those cities even after all we have done just because of four God Ranks, then...” Tang Shaoyang paused, shaking his head, ”I am sorry to say this, but the monarchy is doomed.”

”We are in the middle of a war, and you are still thinking about a stupid duel!? We can’t allow someone like them to cause harm to our people! Not in a time like this!” Albin heard everything from where he was and responded fervently.

He tried not to get involved, but he could no longer when it involved his people. He could not afford to lose his people because he was about to start another battle with his brother. Losing the four God Ranks would harm him in the succession because he might lose his follower’s trust if he could not protect them from the mercenary. This was a crucial moment for him.

The God Ranks behind Albin stepped out together and faced Gianni. Their stance was clear, Gianni had to fight them all if he insisted on continuing the duel.

”You have humiliated us for your stupid squabbling with your brothers in front of thousands of people! You smirched our name and honor in front of your people! You laughed and insulted us, and do you think you can get away with a lame excuse?” Gianni was enraged from deep inside.

Gianni was someone who took his job seriously and would dedicate two hundred percent of his effort to his job. Tang Shaoyang summoned him as a guard. To him, a guard was not just responsible for Tang Shaoyang’s security, but also for protecting his Master’s honor.

Albin humiliated Tang Shaoyang in the court meeting, and then Albin challenged them to a duel and created the stage for them just for people to laugh at them. He remembered everything vividly when those people laughed at them just by mentioning his name. He must finish the duel and silence those people who laughed at him and Tang Shaoyang.

Gianni was aware that his Master did not care that much, but it was important to him. It was part of his duty as a knight that serve his Master. He would not let it slide until they finished the duel and showed the remaining four heads to those people who laughed at them.

”Let them have the duel!” A strong yet exhausted voice echoed in the air, and everyone turned toward the voice.

Volans stood up and approached the army. He had some resentment toward Tang Shaoyang from the beating he received, but that was not important compared to what would happen. If he did not meddle, they might be the next victim of these extremely powerful mercenaries.

”So this is your plan, Bro—” Before Albin finished his words, a spear flew off his face and struck down a few centimeters of his feet. He was shocked and let out a high-pitched shriek that was unfitting of his status.

”Don’t lump us with your disgusting noble who can’t keep with your words. I act on behalf of the Master I serve, not your brother. This is between me and your people!” Gianni was quick so quick to spot the remaining four people who would participate in the duel.

”Can we resolve this with a conversation?” Grand General Marko interfered.

Regardless of what Tang Shaoyang told them about the Dominion Army, they could not afford to let the infighting keep going. If he let Gianni get his way, Albin might back down now and let his people die, but Albin would plot something later on. It was a cursed cycle with no benefit, and it was better to talk it out and resolve it now, without casualties.

Meanwhile, Grand General Senton approached Volans, pulling the young lord to the side, and whispered, ”You don’t have to do this, Young Lord Volans. You have won us a battle, and people would favor you. You don’t have to ruin your effort here just to weaken your brother’s force.”

He did not believe what Gianni said. It made sense that this was Volans’ plot, trying to weaken Albin’s force before the succession battle.

Volans shook his head, ”My words don’t have weight on them, Grand General. I wish they were my people, but they are not.”

”Gianni’s action has nothing to do with me, and my advice is to let Gianni have his duel, Grand General. If I truly wanted to weaken my brother’s force, I would not interfere because my brother is arrogant enough to use his people to fight Gianni just to protect those four. If that happens, my brother will lose everything. They will lose even if my brother uses his elite fights. How do you think we won this battle? It’s because of them. Trust me, Grand General, you don’t want to fight them. They are scarier than the Dominion.”

Of course, Grand General Senton did not believe Volans. In his eyes, the young lords were using this chance to raise their odds of succeeding in the empty throne. Volans immediately noticed Grand General Senton did not believe him, but he had a way to convince Grand General Senton.

”If you don’t believe me, I have someone that will convince you how truthful my words are,” Volans spotted Guild Master Alves and gestured toward the Guild Master to come over.

”You should be aware of our contract with the Mercenary Guild, right? Guild Master Alves could confirm who did the most kills in the battle through the contract that Sir Tang Shaoyang took.”

Of course, they were aware of the contract in the mercenary guild because they discussed the deal in the meeting with the three Guild Masters. Because of Volans’ plan, they posted the contract earlier. Volans was right about this, he could confirm the six mercenaries’ performance in the battle through the contract.

”I am not asking you to disclose their contract. I just want to tell you about their performance, Guild Master Alves. The situation is urgent!” Grand General Senton sensed the tension kept rising, and just like Volans said, Albin would order his people to fight the mercenary to protect those four people.

”I will show you, but you must swear to keep it secret!”

Grand General Senton and Young Lord Volans were surprised to hear that coming from a Guild Master. The mercenary guild was known for its tight privacy even to the authorities. They were surprised that Guild Master Alves was willing to share the contact information.

”Because you will not believe unless I show you the information, Grand General. I can only show you the public contract, but not the exclusive contract.” Guild Master Alves shared the two public contracts, a contract under Tang Shaoyang’s name.

Grand General Senton’s eyes widened in shock before his countenance paled as he looked toward Tang Shaoyang. The numbers were absurd, especially the contract to kill the God Ranks.
