Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 1054, Why Do You Fight For Him?

Translator: Silavin

The Purgatory Overlord had initially planned to use the killing of Pet Dragons to break the deadlock, allowing herself to take control of the situation. Even if surrounded by Lu Fan and his Pet Dragons, she could turn defeat into victory.

Yet Lu Fan showed no unusual reaction to the deaths of his Pet Dragons, which left her both extremely confused and impatient.

If things continued at this pace, she could still hold out for some time, perhaps even kill two more of Lu Fan’s Pet Dragons.

But what then?

After killing them, her Ancient God Power would be nearly depleted.

When Lu Fan continued to fight alongside his Pet Dragons, she would likely struggle to cope.

No, she needed another way to break this deadlock!

The Purgatory Overlord felt the pressure mounting, but even while exchanging blows with Lu Fan, she revealed no openings. Instead, she kept searching for an opportunity to directly kill Lu Fan, rather than continue this prolonged engagement with his Pet Dragons.

Unfortunately, Lu Fan proved exceptionally slippery. He would constantly remain in Concealment, barely revealing himself.

Even when he occasionally attacked and the Purgatory Overlord seized the chance to counterattack, she would discover it was merely one of Lu Fan’s Jade Mirror Images, not the real him.

The Purgatory Overlord’s attacks only wasted more of her Ancient God Power, making her situation increasingly precarious.

As this imbalance grew, the Purgatory Overlord increasingly became nothing more than a facade of strength.

After some thought, she simply resorted to mockery.

“I’ve already killed three of your Pet Dragons, yet you still hide behind your Pets, refusing to face me directly, while simultaneously having the Dragons shield you from my Skills. I truly cannot understand why they would serve you as their Master. Why would they not leave you? Dragons are extreme intelligence beings, are they not? I’ve never even heard of the precedent for Dragons submitting to Humans. For Dragons to acknowledge you as their Master, you must be extraordinary. But is this how you treat your Dragons? Are you not afraid they’ll grow dissatisfied with you?”

She broadcast these words through spiritual transmission, ensuring both Lu Fan and the Dragons could understand.

Hearing this, Lu Fan could not help but smile.

Clearly, the Purgatory Overlord’s words were deliberately aimed at the Dragons, not him.

Her intent was nothing more than driving a wedge between himself and his Pet Dragons.

Mighty as Dragons were, even when contracted to Humans as Pets, they could use their own power to forcibly sever the Master-Servant relationship and flee.

Therefore, to keep them, treating them well and earning their favour was essential.

In Human history, there might be no precedent of Dragons becoming Pets.

But amongst Divine Beings, there should still exist those who established friendly relationships with Dragons, maybe even an alliance.

The Purgatory Overlord understood this. Knowing the proud nature of Dragons meant that with the slightest displeasure, betraying their Master and leaving was perfectly normal.

The Purgatory Overlord wanted to exploit this trait, seeing if she could create a rift between Lu Fan and his Pet Dragons, causing internal discord that would give her the chance to turn defeat into victory.

What she could exploit was precisely the manner of Lu Fan using his Pet Dragons as meat shields.

Originally, Lu Fan and his Pet Dragons fought her together, yet Lu Fan remained Concealed at the rear, letting the Pet Dragons bear the risk of being killed.

How could the Dragons not have any opinions about such an ally?

With their intelligence, she only needed to slightly manipulate them into understanding that Lu Fan’s cowardly approach did not merit him being an ally. Leaving him early would be the best choice.

This was the Purgatory Overlord’s only method to achieve victory.

However, she could never know that Lu Fan was a Dragon Tamer, and all his Pet Dragons were all personally hatched by him.

Pet Dragons obtained this way possessed loyalty far beyond what normal Dragon alliances could compare to.

Take the Devouring Dragon King for instance. Her relationship with Lu Fan existed akin to an alliance.

If Lu Fan were currently fighting alongside the Devouring Dragon King, the Purgatory Overlord’s manipulation might actually have a chance of making the Devouring Dragon King turn tail and leave. She might even give Lu Fan a parting kick.

But Lu Fan’s Pet Dragons could never do such a thing. In their eyes, Lu Fan was no different from their Father. How could they possibly betray him?

Moreover, the more critical reason was that from beginning to end, Lu Fan had done absolutely nothing wrong…

The Purgatory Overlord’s schemes were destined to come to nothing.

Not understanding the true circumstances, when the Purgatory Overlord saw that after she finished speaking, the Pet Dragons continued their fierce assault as if they had not heard anything, she assumed she simply had not said enough. That those words were simply not enough to make the Pet Dragons consider betraying Lu Fan.

Thus, while battling, she added fuel to the fire, continuing. “You Dragons are truly foolish! This Human clearly uses you as meat shields, completely disregarding your lives! Does such a person deserve your devoted service!?”

“If this battle continues, you’ll all die, while this Human lives, he’ll obtain what he wants, while you get nothing and only death! Even when you die, you won’t receive any pity from him.”

“Look at him. After three Dragons died, did he show any reluctance or regret? Did he feel distressed that you might face the risk of falling, telling you to be careful when fighting against me? Did he personally step forward to block my Skills, ensuring your greater safety!?”

“Nothing! He is doing nothing! He’s just making use of you, treating you as tools to be discarded after use! Will you still risk your lives to help this person fight!? If you’re willing to leave, I’ll open the gate out of my Dungeon Instance right now, letting you depart. From this moment forth, everything here will have nothing to do with you.”

“You are Dragons, standing above hundreds of millions of beings in this world. If you die here like those three Dragons just now, wouldn’t that be regrettable!?”

The Purgatory Overlord continued her incessant chatter, wanting to awaken the Dragons to reality so they would stop sacrificing themselves for Lu Fan.

However, to her complete surprise, no matter how much she spoke, the Pet Dragons’ offensive showed no sign of restraint whatsoever, exactly as if they had not heard her at all.

[Are you truly this loyal to such a person!? Fine, if that’s the case, I’ll show you once more. I refuse to believe that more deaths won’t be enough to make you contemplate whether, as Dragons, you should embrace your pride. I’ll make you understand that your lives are precious, and recognise that you shouldn’t be sacrificing yourselves for a Human!] With this thought, flames suddenly burst forth from within the Purgatory Overlord’s body, making her Form shine like the Sun. It was blindingly brilliant.
