Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 120, Lu Fan Withdrew Because He’s Afraid of Me

Translator: Silavin

“What?” Lu Fan took the tablet and opened it to take a look.

Qin Qiu, Jian Ying, and Han Ke also gathered around Lu Fan out of curiosity to examine this post together.

The post was titled ‘Withdrawal? It’s Just Fear of Losing’, and when opened, it contained a lengthy content of several thousand words.

Lu Fan skimmed through it briefly. The content mainly stated that Lu Fan’s withdrawal from the freshmen exam was not because he was going to clear a Secret Realm, or because his body was injured after the battle with Chen Tianzhi. The real reason was that if Lu Fan did not withdraw, he would soon face Jiang Fengyun!

As everyone knows, since the battle of the two Dragons, the next match everyone is most looking forward to was a direct confrontation between Lu Fan and Jiang Fengyun. Moreover, the two were very likely to meet on the stage in three days.

Thus, for Lu Fan to withdraw at this time, what else could it be if not in fear of Jiang Fengyun? As long as he passed this hurdle of Jiang Fengyun, Lu Fan would definitely be able to aim for first place in the freshmen exam. At that time, he would have 5,000 University Points! How tempting were 5,000 University Points, who would give up on them?

Now that Lu Fan has even defeated Chen Tianzhi, the only decent obstacle before him was Jiang Fengyun. The fact that Lu Fan was giving up 5,000 University Points to withdraw must be because he was afraid of Jiang Fengyun and was afraid of losing to him!

By withdrawing now, Lu Fan can bask in the glory of defeating Chen Tianzhi and become an uncrowned king.

As for who was stronger between him and Jiang Fengyun, that would remain unknown.

If he did not withdraw and lost to Jiang Fengyun, he would be publicly acknowledged as unworthy of sitting in the position of the top freshman.

Weighing the options, on one side were 5,000 University Points, on the other was his personal reputation, Lu Fan would naturally choose the latter.

Because Lu Fan was first in granted points, he might be able to enter the Noble Class without these 5,000 University Points, so withdrawing is more beneficial than harmful.

Later, the post also conducted a well-reasoned analysis of the Profession Characteristics of Lu Fan, Jian Ying, Jiang Fengyun, and Xu Jing, and the final analysis result was that Lu Fan and Jian Ying would undoubtedly lose!

What Lu Fan relies on was nothing more than Dragon Language Magic and his own extremely high Strength Attribute, while Jian Ying relies on her Sword Tamer Skills, which could be regarded as a stronger version of Archer.

In contrast, Jiang Fengyun has the Hidden Profession of Shadow Warrior, which is an enhanced version of an Assassin. His partner Xu Jing, ranked fourth i, has the Hidden Profession of Mage Silencer.

Xu Jing’s Skills can prevent opponents from using their Skills. Without Skills, Lu Fan and Jian Ying’s Strength would basically be halved. Furthermore, Jiang Fengyun, being a Shadow Warrior, can blend in with the shadows. Whether for sneak attacks or to temporarily avoid Lu Fan’s Physical Attack and find opportunities for a counterattack, it was all very easy.

Lu Fan and Jian Ying without Skills would just be toys for Jiang Fengyun.

As for Lu Fan’s Dragon?

Everyone says Lu Fan has a Dragon, and it was even more powerful than Chen Tianzhi’s Armoured Earth Dragon. But who has seen it?

It was likely that Lu Fan had fooled everyone. Not all powerful Dragon Tamers have Pet Dragons.

It was very possible that Lu Fan, through some means, has activated his Profession Characteristics and obtained some Profession Skills without a Pet Dragon, which was why he was so strong.

He definitely did not have a Pet Dragon. If he had one, how was it no one has seen it, and everyone has only heard about it? If he has a Pet Dragon, would he personally risk injury to engage in physical combat with the Armoured Earth Dragon?

Lu Fan not having a Pet Dragon was almost a certainty. So no matter how one looked at it, the combination of Lu Fan and Jian Ying would be no match for Jiang Fengyun and Xu Jing. The latter completely countered the former.

Thus, was it not obvious why Lu Fan withdrew? He was just afraid of losing.

Below this post, many people thought the analysis was quite reasonable. Many had seen the live streams of Jiang Fengyun and Xu Jing’s battles. The two were very strong, and when working together, they were unstoppable. They had crushed their way to this point, and their momentum was no less than Lu Fan and Jian Ying’s.

If Lu Fan was not afraid of Jiang Fengyun, why would he withdraw at this time?

Of course, some people thought this explanation was unreasonable. If Lu Fan was really afraid of Jiang Fengyun, why did he withdraw so early instead of continuing for two more matches? The opponents in the next two matches were not tough, and after easily winning those, he and Jian Ying could have gotten quite a few more University Points before withdrawing.

The original poster personally came down to answer this question, saying if Lu Fan withdrew right before facing Jiang Fengyun, would his cowardice not be too obvious?

He stated Lu Fan just wanted to withdraw early so he could come up with other excuses to cover up his cowardice. The more he did this, the more his fear of Jiang Fengyun was being exposed.

This post quickly rose to the top and was widely discussed. Many people seemed to think this must be the inside story of Lu Fan’s withdrawal.

However, if this post was just this, it naturally would not have caught Tao Xiaoman’s attention enough to show Lu Fan. After all, there were too many of such posts.

The truly dramatic part was that someone soon dug up that this post was actually anonymously posted by Xu Jing!

When this was revealed, the entire thread suddenly erupted in an uproar.

Xu Jing’s post on Lu Fan withdrawing because he was afraid of him and Jiang Fengyun, was this not just self-aggrandisement?

Some people originally thought the post made sense, but after it was revealed to be posted by Xu Jing, the reception immediately reversed. Now, everyone cursed Xu Jing for being shameless. How could he claim Lu Fan withdrew because he was afraid of him? Was he not giving himself too much credit?

Faced with countless accusations and curses, the exposed Xu Jing did not choose to come out and apologise. Instead, his teammate Jiang Fengyun made another signed post, standing up for Xu Jing.

He argued how Xu Jing’s post was not wrong. Did Lu Fan withdraw not because he was afraid of him and Xu Jing? If not for this, would Lu Fan dare to come back and have a match with them?

He mentioned how Xu Jing just stated a fact, letting everyone see Lu Fan’s true cowardly nature. He questioned why so many people were attacking Xu Jing in the thread of that post?

As soon as Jiang Fengyun appeared, many supporters of Jiang Fengyun and Xu Jing also appeared in the threads, saying how the content of the posts were very reasonable.

Xu Jing posting anonymously, speculating that Lu Fan withdrew out of fear, does seem to have the intention of slandering Lu Fan. After all, who can guarantee this was not the truth?

If Lu Fan really did not withdraw because he was afraid of Jiang Fengyun, then why does he not come out to prove it? He just needed to come out and beat Jiang Fengyun and Xu Jing in a match. If Lu Fan dares, then the top freshman would be decided then. If he does not dare, would that not prove everything Xu Jing said to be true?

Such voices grew louder and louder, and soon, everyone in the forum was now calling for Lu Fan and Jian Ying to compete with Jiang Fengyun and Xu Jing,  to prove whether Xu Jing’s words were true or not.

Jiang Fengyun seized the opportunity to make another post, pushing this matter to a critical point.

His new post said that to prove his good friend Xu Jing was not talking nonsense, he hereby officially declared war on Lu Fan and Jian Ying, and was now seeking to find a good time for them to have a match. Not only that, he also directly said how he felt the position of top freshman should not belong to Lu Fan, and Villa No. 1 should not be occupied by Lu Fan either.

In the end, there must be a battle between him and Lu Fan to prove who was this year’s Dragon Capital University’s Freshmen King!

If Lu Fan does not dare accept the challenge, he would go to Villa No. 1 at noon tomorrow to drive Lu Fan out of Villa No. 1!

As soon as this post came out, the forum was once again in uproar.

‘Jiang Fengyun seems to be really serious about this…’

‘‘If Lu Fan doesn’t accept his challenge, he’ll fight his way to Lu Fan’s doorstep?’

‘Hey, isn’t this equivalent to publicly declaring war on Lu Fan?’

Many people posted, asking if anyone personally knew Lu Fan, to quickly tell him about this and prepare for the challenge. How it was best not to let Jiang Fengyun show up at his doorstep while he was still unaware.

After reading through the contents of these posts, and how it escalated, everyone in the room except for Lu Fan was enraged.

They all knew that Lu Fan had forfeited because he did not have time to participate in the freshmen exam.

Originally, Lu Fan not participating was good for others, because if Lu Fan participated, the position of first place would definitely be his.

But now, not only was Jiang Fengyun picking up an easy first place, he was now riding on Lu Fan’s popularity and stirring up trouble! He even threatened to come to Villa No. 1 and drive Lu Fan out of the villa. The villa which symbolises the living quarters of the strongest freshman. This was just him adding insult to injury.

Lu Fan and Jiang Fengyun have no grudges against each other, yet he posts slander against Lu Fan. Now, he was even challenging Lu Fan to a match!

[This Jiang Fengyun is really like a monkey… he sure loves to jump around a lot.] Lu Fan did not take this too seriously. To be honest, he did not even know who Jiang Fengyun was or what he looked like. He just saw him as a clown, someone unworthy to waste emotions on.

However, he was really curious why Jiang Fengyun insisted on going against him. Originally, he could have peacefully taken first place and entered the Noble Class.

[Is that not good enough for him?]

After raising his question, Tao Xiaoman, who often browses the forum and was quite familiar with a ton of University rumours, gave Lu Fan an explanation.

It turns out that Dragon Capital University has always had a tradition of selecting a Freshmen King. Whoever could make a name for themselves among the freshmen, holding the absolute top spot would obtain the title of Freshmen King.

The reason why Chen Tianzhi was so keen on fighting in the arena before might also have been to compete for this title.

As long as one would become the universally acknowledged Freshmen King among the new students, the University would give that student a certain amount of attention, and educational resources would also be tilted in their favour.

More importantly, the Freshmen King has another benefit, which was the opportunity to represent Dragon Capital University in competitions between other Universities in the future. If their performance was good enough, they would be able to secure the entry ticket for the National Trial for the University, and they might even get the chance to be selected to represent Dragon Country!

Of course, this was getting a bit far ahead of themselves.

Regardless, the main point in becoming the Freshmen King was the numerous benefits it provided.

The Freshmen King was not determined solely by the ranking of University Points. For example, now, if Jiang Fengyun could not defeat Lu Fan, even if he gets first place in the freshmen exam, he definitely would not be able to make everyone acknowledge him as the Freshmen King.

After Tao Xiaoman’s explanation, Lu Fan understood why Jiang Fengyun was actively stirring up trouble.

[Turns out it’s for reputation. He wants to get the University’s attention, and a possible spot in the National Trial. Unfortunately, Jiang Fengyun doesn’t know that I’ve already obtained all this.]
