Chapter 1534: Chapter 528: Mutant Spider Swarm

Powerful individuals, if they can communicate politely and equally, often quickly gain the goodwill of others.

Just after chatting for a while, many in this Brighton caravan lowered their guard against Rein and started laughing and chatting, especially a Brighton girl named Ayana, whose big bright eyes were filled with curiosity about Rein.

”Those wizards in black robes, with bones or skulls embroidered on their chests, are the most despicable, secretly stealing the bodies of warriors from our tribe’s tombs,” Ayana said indignantly.

”Oh? Bones or skulls on the chest?”

”Are they from the Tutkash School? I heard they are more active on the west side of the Shirendil Plateau,” Rein said with some confusion.

”Yes, they used to be, but now there are quite a few black-robed wizards wandering near our tribe,” Ayana nodded, her voice clear.

”Sir, did you just say they are from the Tutkash School?”

The girl’s question inadvertently reached the ears of an elder and a youth nearby, causing their bodies to stiffen slightly. Rein naturally noticed this, and smiled slightly.

Obviously, as the main force within the tribe, they know who their enemies are, but they didn’t tell the girl.

”Yes.” Rein smiled and nodded.

”I see, by the way, I’ve heard that the number of missing people from several Brighton tribes near the west is getting more serious. It seems to be related to this Tutkash School too.”

”Sister!” The Brighton youth who initially talked with Rein couldn’t help but remind her, signaling his sister not to speak recklessly.

After all, in his view, Rein is a stranger.

Although he is not wearing the Tutkash School wizard robe, there’s no guarantee that he isn’t somehow connected. His sister’s straightforwardness might lead to trouble.

”Don’t worry, I’m not familiar with them, nor am I a friend.”

”By the way, haven’t you reported this situation to the Empire?”

”Also, I heard that in the Shirendil Plateau, the Isodre School has considerable influence here. Don’t they intervene in this matter?” Rein smiled, trying to steer the topic towards the Isodre School.

Because while the upper levels of the Empire allow large wizard schools to enjoy preferential rights in a region, they also expect them to take on the responsibility for local security and orderly development.

”It used to be okay, those Yellow Robed Wizards who manipulate rocks and earth would step in, and sometimes even battle with the Black Robed Wizards, but in recent years, this seems to happen less and less, sometimes not at all.”

This time, the Brighton youth spoke instead of his sister.

However, he seemed wary of both schools, using Yellow Robed to refer to the Isodre School wizards, and Black Robed to refer to those from the Tutkash School.

”As for the Empire, except for Nirheim, there is basically no one else,” the youth said somewhat dismissively.

Despite his blunt words, Rein knew he was telling the truth.

Even the Imperial Swordsmen hadn’t established a proper branch in the Shirendil Plateau, only leaving a contact point in Nirheim with just a handful of personnel.

”By the way, are your minerals to be delivered to a designated chamber of commerce?” Rein recalled the elder’s troubled expression and couldn’t help asking.

”Yes, sir, these minerals are to be delivered to the Giant Stone Chamber of Commerce, which is under the Isodre School you just mentioned.”

”Do you know what they need these metal ores for?”

”Not quite sure, but last time I overheard a Yellow Robed Wizard muttering something about metal puppets,” the Brighton youth remembered and said.

Just as Rein was about to continue inquiring, suddenly a sharp bone whistle sounded:

”Left front, exotic spider swarm! In large numbers!”

”Oh no!” Hearing the alert whistle, the Brighton youth Antaruka leapt up like a leopard, quickly rushing forward.

Meanwhile, Rein squinted his eyes slightly, looking toward the Brighton people’s rapid assembly for defense.

He saw a group of fist-sized black-marked spiders quickly attacking the direction of the caravan, with a large number of them approaching, appearing like a canvas of several dozen square meters of dark fabric, swiftly drifting across the ground.

”Exotic spider swarm?” Rein muttered in confusion.

”Yes, sir. In recent years, these black spiders have become more numerous, but when I was a child, I rarely saw them. The elders in the tribe said these are foreign creatures,” the Brighton girl Ayana explained.

”Oh? Are they hard to deal with?”

”If the numbers are small, they’re actually not difficult to deal with. An experienced tribesman can handle four or five of them; the key is, every time these exotic spider swarms appear, they’re in groups of at least a dozen.”

”So once the old, weak, women, and children of the tribe go out and encounter them, they are sure to be harmed, and even the strong youth need to handle them cautiously,” Ayana said, watching the exotic spider swarm rushing in, with concern on her face.

At this time, Rein saw the so-called exotic spider swarm had already engaged with the Brighton Warriors.

With arcs of axes drawn, black dirty blood and chitinous shells splattered, the front row of black-marked spiders were cut down by the Brighton Warriors, but spiders from the rear continued to surge forward.

Meanwhile, these spiders also started spraying webs with a faint black radiance, or spitting out oil-green venom.
