Warhammer Divine Throne

”No matter what, I will give my all in this war,” Aik said in a deep voice. After speaking, the young man left without looking back: ”To wash away my shame.”

Laine nodded and walked alone into the depths of the ruins by Moon Lake’s shore.

Something had been calling to him from the depths of the ruins since just a while ago.

Laine began to gradually enter the depths of the ruins.

The streets were very narrow, with scratches all over the white walls, filled with signs of battle everywhere. Laine didn’t know what had happened in these ruins, but countless adventurers had explored them over the millennia. The ruins had completely lost their original appearance. Every corner of this deserted city had been thoroughly rummaged by humans. Since the Great Holy War, no adventurer had explored this place because, after every corner was dug three feet deep, there was no point wasting time here.

The Elven architecture was incredibly exquisite, and wherever he was, Laine could always look up to see the moon and turn back to see Moon Lake.

Following the road paved with heavy stones, Laine ascended, and the voice calling him became clearer at the end of the ruins.

He arrived at an altar.

This ancient altar could no longer be identified as dedicated to which deity. Every statue had been damaged and taken away by greedy adventurers, every beautiful gold leaf had been cut and pried off by explorers using knives or sharp tools. The long gallery with murals telling stories of the past was severely missing, only the collapsed stone columns and the fire basin on the altar, which no one was interested in, remained relatively intact.

He could be sure that something here was calling to him.

Moonlight bathed the entire altar and shone on Laine’s armor, reflecting light all around. The armorial linked to his shoulder glimmered continuously.

Could it be the Moon Goddess? Laine contemplated.

Before the Great Calamity, the Moon Goddess was once one of the main deities worshipped by humans, but after more than a thousand years of development, this church had long declined. In the southern part of the Continent, especially in Marinburg and the Southern Realm, this church and temple still existed. In harsh places like Nord, where residents were in constant danger, the Moon Goddess Church, which advocated for human rights and freedom, found little room for survival.

In fact, both the Empire and Brittania didn’t like the Moon Goddess Church.

As Laine pondered, footsteps came from behind him, and a spotted deer appeared in front of Laine. Instinctively, he raised his warhammer to signal it to move aside, or else not blame him for being ruthless.

But the spotted deer didn’t move aside. It nodded toward Laine, then ran into the nearby small forest.

Laine thought briefly and decided to follow.

The fog inside the forest thickened, a faint fragrance permeated, and ancient chants echoed throughout the forest, recounting the great past of the Knight King. Forest elves encircled a beautiful figure, singing. She sat leisurely on a tall Unicorn, quietly watching the guest brought by the deer.

”Lady?” At about twenty steps away, Laine realized who the visitor was.

The other party didn’t respond. In the dense fog, Laine couldn’t see her expression, only her beautiful golden hair cascading down to her ankles, and the Unicorn’s pointed horn casting starlight.

She seemed to be waiting for Laine’s next action.

”I offer my respect to you, Lady.” After hesitating momentarily, Laine decided to kneel on one knee to offer the knight’s salute to this Goddess. Regardless of her motives, it was she who set down the Eight Virtues of Chivalry and brought discipline and hope to humanity in this dark era. If not for the Lake Fairy’s help to King Arthur, the Founding Knight King, all humans in Brittania would have perished.

”Laine, outsider from beyond, son of Lord Normandy of the Autene Territory, godchild of Duke of Imperial Griffin Ivan Ferdinand, it is a pleasure to meet you,” spoke a voice as clear as a spring. Each word bore an enticing floral aroma and a powerful sense of oppression. Laine had to gather all his spiritual power to understand what she said, and this deity spoke in High Gothic, causing sweat to form on his forehead after just a few sentences.

”I am very honored to receive your audience, Lady. May I ask for what reason?” Laine couldn’t fathom why the creator of knightly virtues, the Guardian God and ruler of Brittania, wanted to meet him, so he cautiously inquired.

”Indeed!” The Lake Fairy raised her hand in a gesture to help Laine up. Her soft voice could easily lure one into an eternal dream: ”Few can withstand speaking directly to me anymore, even my Holy Grail Knights can’t do it; I always have to send visions to them.”

”...” Laine didn’t answer; he hadn’t collected enough intelligence. Without knowing why the Lake Fairy summoned him, remaining silent was the better choice.

”I have received my answer, go and continue your battle. I must warn you; they outnumber us. Bireg is blessed by Khorne; he cannot be faced directly.” The Lake Fairy continued, at her location, the snow had melted away, and countless flowers and grasses grew slowly along her path.

”The current situation doesn’t allow for a careful strategy. I can only try to delay his steps until the Empire’s reinforcements arrive,” Laine straightforwardly replied.

”Prophesying your future always makes me feel extremely dangerous, as if some supreme being is coldly watching me... But before the Empire’s reinforcements arrive, you will have a battle with Bireg. The outcome of this battle will decide the safety of this city and all creatures within tens of miles around.” The Lake Fairy’s figure became faint and indistinct in the fog: ”Go and face it, White Wolf Knight, and then you will understand what true knightly virtues are.”

The Lake Fairy’s prophecies had never been wrong. She had powerful capabilities to peer into the future. Although Laine didn’t know why she asserted he would have a battle with Bireg, since she prophesied it, it was very likely to happen.

But why was she warning him? Did she have any purpose in doing this?

”Lady, can you answer my question?” Laine started to vaguely guess what the Lake Fairy intended, so he directly asked: ”I always heard White Wolf Archbishop Maras mention that you are a deity of the elves.”

”You indeed know a lot, Laine.” Even veiled in thick fog, Laine could sense a change in the Lake Fairy’s tone. She paused for a long time before continuing: ”Honesty is a virtue. I am an Elf God, and yet not an Elf God.”

”Please elaborate.”

”My world turned to scorched earth and silence under Chaos’ assault. The Chaos Gate swallowed everything of the Prime Material Plane. I fought my way out desperately and spent countless years to reach this world. At that time, I was an Elf God.”

”Yet the elves of this world already had a complete pantheon, within which there was no place for me. Observing humans, I found they possessed greater potential and wisdom than the elves. They were the future’s main force against Chaos, so I chose to descend upon the Kakasong Duchy of Brittania. The rest, you know.”

Laine nodded, everyone was well-acquainted with the story of Knight King Arthur.

”After centuries of human faith accumulation, I have become no different from a Human God. My primary identity is the Guardian God of Brittania, not the Elf’s Goddess of Fate.”

”I understand, thank you for your honesty.” Now Laine felt he had been petty, feeling slightly embarrassed, and bowed his head in apology.

”I am waiting for your choice.”
