Warhammer Divine Throne

Although the Holy Shield Skill is not invincible in the absolute sense, it’s enough to deal with the Scorpion-tailed Lion.

The Scorpion-tailed Lion charged at Laine, kicking up dust and snow, but Laine easily rolled away, then surged forward fiercely, striking the lion’s front paw with his Warhammer, and immediately dodged the poisonous sting that followed.

”Ice Spear Technique!” Teresa quickly formed a long ice spear in the air, and it sliced through the sky, whistling directly toward the Scorpion-tailed Lion.

The Scorpion-tailed Lion dodged swiftly, and taking advantage of the opportunity, the Ice Golem immediately wrapped it up in an embrace.

Seeing this, Laine began to hold his power.

The Scorpion-tailed Lion struggled with all its might, and its sharp teeth and claws soon tore apart the golem Teresa had temporarily summoned, its slender tail flailing wildly, with the poisonous sting at the tip piercing holes into the golem’s surface, sending fragments flying.

Soon, the joints at the arms and head of the golem showed damage, and it seemed it could no longer hold the Scorpion-tailed Lion.

But it was enough.

”Frost Nova!!” The female sorcerer exclaimed, and a large amount of frosty mist suddenly erupted from the Ice Golem’s interior. The bone-chilling mist froze the Scorpion-tailed Lion, making it scream in agony. Though it struggled desperately to break free, under the control of the female sorcerer, the golem held it tightly and wouldn’t let go.

Gradually, the body of the Scorpion-tailed Lion became rigid, and the golem, under its relentless attack, finally turned back into rubble and wood.

”Divine Shock!” White light shone from the Paladin’s Longsword, and Alfred struck with all his might, leaving a huge gash on the Scorpion-tailed Lion’s back.

Next came Laine’s attack. The White Wolf Knight’s Warhammer glowed with golden light, crashing down on the Scorpion-tailed Lion’s head.

Skull Shattering Strike!

”Aroo!” In the nick of time, feeling the extreme danger, the Scorpion-tailed Lion barely escaped the frozen state. It twisted its head away, enduring Laine’s heavy blow to its shoulder, and leveraging the great force of the White Wolf Knight, pounced at Alfred, its tail’s poisonous sting soaring high over its head, stabbing directly toward the Paladin’s head.

The old strength had faded, the new strength had not yet arisen, coupled with the fact that the Paladin is not a nimble profession, Alfred immediately invoked Divine Art.

A golden ring enveloped Alfred, with countless golden runes flickering around the Paladin, completely blocking the Scorpion-tailed Lion’s fierce attack. No matter how hard it tried, it couldn’t penetrate the outer ring of golden protective energy.

With the protection of the Holy Shield Skill, Alfred immediately adopted a reckless fighting method, each move of the Paladin was a desperate one, completely disregarding the vulnerabilities in his stance, and each swing of his Longsword left deep wounds visible to the bone on the Scorpion-tailed Lion’s body. Soon, the Scorpion-tailed Lion slowed due to excessive blood loss and severe injuries, falling into a dying state.

Laine inwardly chuckled.

This is the rogue-like nature of the Holy Shield Skill. When activated and in an invincible state, the Paladin maximizes the skill’s effectiveness by using such tactics, which is why many jokingly refer to Paladins in this state as ”Immortal Charge.”

He no longer needed to step in, as the battle was already over.

Teresa approached, the female sorcerer extending her Magic Staff to release dreadful frost from a distance beyond the Scorpion-tailed Lion’s maximum attack range. The demon slowly turned into a solid ice sculpture, and Alfred first decapitated the Scorpion-tailed Lion with a single stroke, then Laine arrived, swung his Spiritual Blade, and severed the Scorpion-tailed Lion’s tail from its body.

”Done! We’ve preserved its body quite well, Lady Dietlinde should pay us a good price!” Laine laughed.

”Let’s wrap up! Let’s wrap up!” The golden ring surrounding Alfred vanished, and the Paladin cheerfully sheathed his sword, placed his shield on his back, and stretched: ”It’s been years, Laine, you’ve become so strong!”

”How could I be your friend if I wasn’t strong?” Laine quipped, then stowed his Warhammer: ”Besides, you’ve grown strong too, Afu.”

”Indeed, how could I live up to the title of ’Great Hammer’ Laine’s friend if I weren’t strong?” Alfred laughed heartily.

The two men exchanged looks, sensing a deep understanding between them.

Only the female sorcerer rolled her eyes, thinking, aren’t these two men’s mutual praises a bit nauseating?

”Ahem, well then, we’ve completed the job, the Scorpion-tailed Lion has fallen, it’s getting late, let’s head back early, Laine? Al…Fred?” Teresa tried to appear as amiable as possible.

Although the female sorcerer didn’t like Paladins, as Alfred was Laine’s friend and childhood playmate, she felt it necessary to be courteous.

”Speaking of which, Laine, it really surprised me that you asked me to do this.” Alfred directly plopped down on the ground, panting: ”Nevertheless... it fulfilled a wish of mine.”

”A wish?”

”Yes, actually, when we entered the city, Lady Nora had already stopped us once in the street.” Alfred laughed self-deprecatingly: ”But she couldn’t pay, even after we offered our bottom line, so even though it was frustrating, we had no choice but to tell her we couldn’t do it. You know, Laine, the Scorpion-tailed Lion isn’t something we can tackle with a wave of our hands like a Ghoul or a Goblin. We can’t risk our lives for nothing.”
