Triple X System

’W-what was that?’ Kyle questioned with a tense face.

What he’d just experienced right now was similar to a dream and hallucination, more like the visions about athos and 1 million years ago.

”Are you alright.” Reze was the one to call out. Alerting him of all the peery eyes directed at him.

”Nothing ~”

The cold air of the subterranean laboratory was thick with the sterile scent of ozone and bio-fluid, but the tension radiating off the group was far more suffocating than the underground draft.

Kyle stood near the edge of the glass cylinder where the preserved chimera specimen floated. His shadow gauntlet hummed softly against his forearm, its dark metal pulsing with a low, restless vibration. Beside him, Yua kept her red claws partially bared, her eyes flicking across the room, while Seraphina held her ocean trident in a relaxed yet vigilant grip.

Reze’s hands flew across the holographic console, bringing up a complex, multi-layered schematic of the kingdom’s subterranean ley-lines. The clear blue channels that usually pumped raw, refined mana beneath the capital were now choked with thick, jagged veins of pulsing dark-purple energy.

”Forget the small-scale skirmishes on the surface,” Reze said, her voice dropping all its usual playfulness as she tapped the main display. ”We have a much bigger problem, and it just got put on a fuse. The moment Kyle stepped back into this realm, the ambient beast mana across the northern and eastern sectors didn’t just react—it violently spiked.”

Kyle’s dark eyes narrowed, staring at the pulsing red markers expanding along the subterranean map. ”Spiked? Because I came back?”

”Because your core carries a massive, uncalibrated energy signature that the central corruption grid was waiting for,” Reze explained, pointing a slender finger at the screen where a red countdown timer had just initialized. ”The mutated mana isn’t just trying to breach our outer walls anymore. It’s digging straight into the primary ley-lines directly beneath the throne room floor. It’s acting like a pressurized bomb.”

Troy stood near the threshold of the hidden elevator, his hands resting behind his back. ”It’s a failsafe,” the cold king chimed in smoothly, his raspy voice cutting through the ambient hum of the lab equipment. ”Whoever engineered these blood puppets knew you’d return eventually. The second your soul-signature registered on the kingdom’s spatial fabric, the core initiated a total atmospheric inversion protocol.”

”How long do we have?” Kyle asked, his tone dropping into a dangerous, icy register.

”Forty-eight hours,” Reze answered flatly. ”Two days. If we don’t sever the primary connection at its source within forty-eight hours, the subterranean ley-lines will detonate. The entire capital, the palace, and everything within a fifty-mile radius will be turned into a crater of void-rot. There won’t even be ash left to bury.”

”Two days...” Yua muttered, a sharp, wicked grin tugging at the corner of her lips despite the grim news. ”Then we don’t waste time holding defensive lines. We go out there and chop off the head of whatever’s driving the horde.”

”You can’t just slaughter your way through fifty thousand constructs in two days, Yua,” Reze shot back, pulling up a regional map showing the vast, unmapped northern tundra. ”The controller isn’t standing out in the open waiting for a duel. They’re hidden inside a dead zone—a place where high-level sensory magic and royal detection arrays completely wash out.”

”The Old Iron Works,” Kyle noted softly, remembering the geography of the lower glacial basin. ”It’s coated in heavy dross and iron slag. A sensory void.”

”Correct,” Reze said. ”Which means you’ll be walking into an unmapped subterranean network with zero backup from the palace guards.”

Before Kyle could respond, the spatial fabric in the center of the underground laboratory began to warp.

It wasn’t a standard portal. There was no blue mana tear, no dark demon fire, and no dramatic spatial rupture. Instead, the sterile white light of the laboratory bulbs simply bent, distorting like heat waves over a desert highway. The air grew impossibly light, stripped instantly of moisture, cold, and smell, replacing it with an overwhelming, pristine pressure that made even Seraphina’s eyes widen in sharp alertness.

*SHIIIING—*

A single, blinding beam of pale, golden-white radiance pierced straight through the solid marble ceiling of the underground lab, striking the stone floor without causing a single crack.

Yua immediately dropped into a low combat stance, her red claws flaring with pressurized crimson blood-mana. Seraphina raised her ocean trident, a heavy wall of pressurized azure water manifesting around Kyle and herself in an instant. Even Troy reached down, his gloved fingers resting firmly against the hilt of his pulsing golden sword.

”Stand down,” a voice echoed through the room.

It didn’t come from the air. It resonated directly inside their minds—smooth, ethereal, and layered with an ancient, terrifying authority that sounded like a thousand chiming bells ringing in unison.

As the blinding radiance slowly receded, a figure stepped out from the light.

She was a woman, but every line of her presence defied the mortal laws of the realm. She wore simple, flowing robes woven from threads of pure, unrefined light that shifted color with every breath she took. Her long hair flowed behind her like a river of liquid starlight, completely unbound by gravity, and her eyes were solid, glowing pools of pale gold without pupils or irises. She did not touch the floor; her bare feet hovered three inches above the polished stone, leaving faint, glowing ripples in the air beneath her.

Kyle stared at her, his slitted dark eyes locking onto her golden gaze. His shadow gauntlet vibrated violently, its pitch-black demon energy thrashing against his skin as if recognizing an absolute, polar-opposite existence.

”Who the hell are you?” Yua growled, her voice tight, her muscles coiled like a spring ready to snap. ”Another puppet sent by the Spire?”

The woman did not even look at Yua. Her golden eyes remained fixed entirely on Kyle.

”I am Vespera,” the woman spoke, her voice carrying a soft, melodious calm that made the air in the lab vibrate. ”And no, beast of blood, I am no puppet. I am a Sovereign of the Upper Firmament—a divine entity that has long since shed the fragile mortal coil you cling to.”

”A god?” Reze whispered, her fingers pausing over her holographic keys as her diagnostic scanners went completely blank, unable to read or quantify the woman’s energy output. ”A higher-tier entity... down here?”

”A self-proclaimed deity,” Seraphina corrected coldly, stepping forward with her trident held high, her sovereign abyssal aura flaring to shield Kyle from the divine pressure. ”Higher beings do not descend into lower mortal realms without a purpose. Speak your business, Vespera, before my trident tests the strength of your light.”

Vespera let out a quiet, melodic sigh that sounded like wind rustling through crystal leaves. She raised a pale, luminous hand, waving off Seraphina’s hostility as if it were nothing more than a passing breeze.

”Your caution is expected, Abyssal Sovereign,” Vespera said calmly. ”You carry the scent of a ruined realm, just as this boy carries the dark mark of the demon core. But save your breath. I did not descend into this damp, iron-choked hole to fight you.”

Kyle stepped past Seraphina’s water barrier, his dark coat settling around his frame as he confronted the divine woman directly. ”Then why are you here? If you’re a god, the affairs of this kingdom shouldn’t mean anything to you.”

”They don’t,” Vespera answered bluntly. ”The kingdom can burn to ash, and the ley-lines beneath it can turn to dust. That is the natural cycle of lower-world mortality. What I care about is the entity currently sitting inside the Old Iron Works.”

Kyle’s brow furrowed. ”The controller?”

”A servant,” Vespera corrected, her golden eyes flashing with a faint, dangerous spark. ”A minor thrall sent by another divine existence—a being who reigns from the Void Spire. That entity has spent the last six months planting blood-anchors across this realm, using the decay of your world to construct a divine nexus.”

She took a floating step closer to Kyle, the pressure in the room shifting subtly.

”I know what you are trying to do, Kyle,” Vespera continued. ”You think you can head down into those mines, sever the central core, and save your little kingdom within forty-eight hours. But you are operating under a grave delusion. The creature in the mines is merely a focal point. If you strike it with raw, unrefined demon fire, you will not sever the connection—you will detonate the nexus instantly.”

Troy took a step forward, his cold eyes narrowed. ”And I suppose a god just happened to descend at the exact moment we needed advice?”

”I am not giving advice, King of Lumia,” Vespera replied, her tone sharpening with an icy, undeniable edge. ”I am offering a temporary alliance. I will supply the divine light necessary to isolate the controller’s core, preventing the subterranean explosion when you strike. In return, you will allow me to claim the void-anchor inside the mine once the controller is dead.”

”And why would we trust a word you say?” Yua spat, her claws glowing bright red. ”Every time some high-and-mighty entity shows up promising help, it ends with a knife in the back.”

”You don’t trust me,” Vespera said, her golden gaze sweeping over Yua, Seraphina, and Troy with utter indifference. ”And you shouldn’t. Trust is a mortal weakness. But you do not have a choice.”

She raised her hand, revealing a faint, crackling mark of pale golden mana burning on her palm—a mark that was slowly, visibly deteriorating, flaking away into specks of light.

”My time in this lower realm is severely limited,” Vespera revealed, her melodic voice carrying a rare, grim honesty. ”The higher entity watching over the Spire has already detected my descent. I have less than thirty hours before its divine enforcement forces lock onto my spatial coordinates and force me back to the Upper Firmament. If I am forced to retreat before that anchor is destroyed, your forty-eight-hour clock won’t matter. The Spire will pull this entire realm into the void.”

Silence fell over the subterranean lab once more.

Reze looked at her monitors, then at Kyle. Seraphina kept her trident raised, her ocean mana pulsing in silent warning, while Troy remained still, calculating the brutal mathematics of the situation in his head.

Kyle stared at the divine woman floating before him. He could feel the sheer, suffocating truth of her power—a power that made the high-tier chimeras he had fought in the desert look like child’s play.

Inside his mind, his internal interface remained dark, but the cold realization settled deep into his chest.

*First the celestial spaces, then Lapidot, now Vespera, and another divine being sitting behind the Spire...*

Kyle let out a low, heavy breath, his dark hair falling over his slitted eyes as a faint, bitter smile touched his lips.

’Just how many of these gods are there?’ Kyle thought to himself, the sheer, absurd scale of the cosmic game surrounding his life pressing down on him with overwhelming weight. ’How many higher entities are sitting in the clouds, using this world as their personal chessboard?’

He looked up, his slitted dark eyes locking onto Vespera’s golden gaze with unyielding, deadly focus.

”Fine,” Kyle said, his voice quiet, heavy, and carrying a tone that made even the divine woman’s eyes flicker slightly. ”We go to the Old Iron Works together. But if you try to turn that divine light on my people...”

He raised his right arm, the shadow gauntlet erupting in a violent, terrifying burst of pitch-black demon fire that burned so hot it caused Vespera’s floating light threads to flicker and warp.

”...I don’t care if you’re a god from the Upper Firmament,” Kyle warned softly. ”I’ll drag you down into the dirt with the rest of them.”

Vespera looked at the dark, ravenous flames dancing along his arm, a faint, unreadable expression passing over her divine face before she gave a single, elegant nod.

”Agreed, demon bearer,” Vespera whispered. ”Now move. Our time is already running out.”
