THE GOD EATER

The main reason he found this system unfair was that he was young and had a lot more to live for compared to Martial Will and Tepid Scholar.

Both Martial Will and Tepid Scholar are old Dao Lords. They are also Dao Lords who have thrown their weight around a lot, used their power many times, and even fought other Dao Lords once in a while.

All of these mean that they have accumulated a lot of Entropy. Because of their years of activity, they should be nearing their limits of Entropy by now.

In comparison, Heavenly Eye and Sword Will are younger and low-key Dao Lords who rarely use their power. So they have more capacity to take on Entropy than the older Dao Lords.

If they use a percentage system, it will take a lot less Entropy for Martial Will and Tepid Scholar to reach 90% of their limits. Compared to that, Heavenly Eye and Sword Maestro will have to take on a lot more Entropy to reach 90% of their limits.

In the worst case possible, Tepid Scholar and Martial Will might have already reached 90% of their Entropy limits. So if they were to use the percentage contribution system, these two wouldn’t need to contribute anything since they have reached their limit.

In that case, Sword Maestro and Heavenly Eye would have to do all of the work while Martial Will and Tepid Scholar watched with encouragement. Even if this doesn’t occur, it would mean that Sword Maestro’s and Heavenly Eye’s years of lying low would have gone to waste, and they would now be no better in terms of Entropy than the Dao Lords who liked to swing their weight around.

The fact that the remaining 10% of capacity for Martial Will and Tepid Scholar would be greater than the remaining 10% capacity for Heavenly Eye and Sword Maestro is just another unfair cherry at the top of an unfair cake.

This was why Heavenly Eye wanted everyone to contribute a fixed amount of Entropy to the cause of putting pressure on the dragon. On the plus side, she could use the fixed unit of contribution to force Tepid Scholar and Martial Will to 99% of their Entropy and maybe more.

If Tepid Scholar was the only one resisting, it would be deemed unreasonable to reject her suggestion, and he would be overwhelmed by the majority. But Tepid Scholar had convinced Martial Will to take his side even before the argument began, so now both sides had some legitimacy.

Both sides began to argue with each other, stating their points and standing stubbornly by their contribution system. With them arguing, they had stopped resisting the dragon.

They didn’t want to continue contributing when the other side was going to cheat. Only one Dao Lord was still resisting.

Only Black Chain was still resisting the dragon stubbornly. He didn’t engage in the argument because he didn’t need anyone to tell him to resist before resisting.

As the one primed to lose the most, he had the most important reason to continue resisting. He didn’t need anyone’s encouragement to resist, which could be called being brave, tenacious, and unwilling to accept defeat. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

As it turned out, being brave, tenacious, and unwilling to accept defeat weren’t good enough to turn defeat into victory. What turned out to be important and necessary was power and a lot of it.

Black Chains was lacking power, so his avatars were captured, sealed, and were not being killed one by one. He also lacked enough capacity for Entropy to force the dragon to give up, so another one of his avatars died.

The golden monkey, which represented the Money Pathway, was killed next. After the golden monkey’s body broke into pieces, the dragon picked up the golden coin that appeared and took it away.

Up in the sky, the Dao Lords saw this happen. The dedication of Black Chain to resistance and the death of another avatar made them willing to come to a compromise.

With the threat of losing an avatar and a pathway looming over them, the four of them were encouraged to come to terms with an agreement that was acceptable to both sides. At the end of the day, they agreed to use a fixed negotiation system, and they settled on an amount of Entropy that wouldn’t make any of them drop dead.

After coming to an acceptable agreement, both sides swore an oath to make it official. Thanks to this agreement, both sides could now be sure that the other party was doing their best.

So no one was worried that they were the only one working while others were slacking off. As for whether their hard work would bear fruit, that was yet to be seen.

For now, their resistance didn’t seem to have changed anything for the dragon. Without pausing to catch its breath, it killed four rank 9 monkeys in a row.

For some reason, the dragon didn’t kill the white monkey. It left the monkey in charge of the Enslavement Pathway and moved on to the avatars of the other Dao Lords.

The dragon went to target the two eagles next. When the Dao Lords saw this, they became encouraged.

With high expectations, Martial Will asked Heavenly, ”Is it working? Is the dragon reaching his limit?”

Every Dao Lord, including Black Chains, turned to look at her, waiting for her answer. Most of them didn’t show it, but they were hoping for a positive answer.

Even she was also hoping for a positive answer. At this moment, with her avatars at the edge of the blade, she could be said to be the most hopeful one of the five of them.

Unfortunately for her and them, reality didn’t match their expectations, and she couldn’t lie about this. So she said in a subdued manner, ”Not yet.”

Black Chain, with mounting impatience, said, ”What exactly do you see? How far has he reached in his capacity for Entropy?”
