THE GOD EATER

Tepid Scholar tried to stop laughing, but it was a bit difficult to do because this whole situation was too funny to him. Perhaps the funniest part was that he didn’t really know what was happening and couldn’t, with any amount of certainty, determine the right decision.

Fortunately, after a few milliseconds of laughter, he was able to regain his composure somewhat. Then he spent another few more milliseconds thinking about what to do.

Eventually, he said, ”I think we should continue to resist. I think it is the right thing to do because it is common sense.”

”No matter how unreasonable or overpowered someone is, they will produce Entropy. And the opposite is the truth for those who are weak. No matter how weak someone is, everything they do will lead to a reaction and resistance from the world that will produce Entropy, When they reach their limit of Entropy, their existence will shut down and scatter.”

”These two are laws baked directly into the fabric of reality. They are facts. Another fact is that the limit of Entropy of a person is dependent on the size and density of their existence.”

”He may have a Divine Mountain, but he is only a rank 9 existence. Based on our Dao Status, he should not be able to withstand as much Entropy as one of us.”

”Therefore, even if this dragon had enough power to defeat and kill each of us, he should not be able to withstand as much Entropy as all five of us. Therein lies our only chance of victory.”

He said so much and spoke for so long, but Martial Will wasn’t impressed with what he said.

The Dao Lord of the Martial Body Sect snorted and said, ”At the end of the day, what you’re saying is that if we continue to resist, he will tire himself out. I know this. What I really want to know is if this is a trap by Heavenly Eye as you’ve said.”

But Tepid Scholar shrugged and said, ”I don’t know. As I said, I hope this isn’t a trap.”

”But knowing Heavenly Eye, she is probably still hiding information from us, and this is also probably a trap. It can be a solution and a trap at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. There is only one way to make sure that we won’t be resisting the dragon for nothing.”

The two of them continued to discuss some more. They were talking about how to avoid resisting in vain.

After their discussion, they came to a conclusion and an agreement. Based on this agreement, Martial Will said to Heavenly Eye, ”How do we make sure that you’re also resisting and not just telling us to resist so that you can weaken us?”

In response, Heavenly Eye rolled her eyes, ”Of course I’m resisting. Why would I tell you to resist and not join in resisting?”

She was actually resisting. But it was only half-heartedly. She too was suspicious about how serious they were taking the resistance and how much effort they were actually putting in.

Before Martial Will could say anything more, she said, ”I feel like you’re accusing me of something again. What is it this time around?”

But Tepid Scholar, like a mediator, swooped in and said, ”I’m sure he is not accusing you of anything. He is just suspicious of how much effort you’re putting into this. I believe that if we all swear an oath to reach 90% of our limit of Entropy, no one will be suspicious of you and others.”

When she heard what Tepid Scholar said, she couldn’t help laughing and saying, ”Did I hear correctly? Did you say 90% of our limit of Entropy just now? Are you senile, or do you take me for a fool?”

”Now, now.” Tepid Scholar started. ”No one is thinking you’re a fool. We just want to ensure efficiency for everyone.”

”I don’t think it is too much to ask for 90%. If you think it is too much, how about we shift the limit to 85%? Is that sincere enough for you?”

Heavenly Eye, with a look of mockery on her face, said, ”No. I refuse to accept a percentage.”

”If you really want to show sincerity, make the limit a unit. Let everyone contribute a certain amount of Entropy to the struggle. If not, you can call it off.”

Tepid Scholar, hearing this, shook his head and said, ”You’re going too far.

Before Heavenly Eye could speak, Sword Maestro spoke up, saying, ”I don’t think what she asked for is unreasonable. I think having everyone contribute an equal amount is how to ensure fairness and equality.”

But Martial Will scoffed and said, ”You should wait to hear how much she wants everyone to contribute before you determine that what she’s asking for is fine to you. Or do you think your state of existence is as big and accommodating of Entropy as hers?”

Tepid Scholar also spoke up in support, saying, ”If we use units of contribution, what is small to her and can be big to you. After all, you don’t have the same size of existence. If she asked for too much, you might even die, which is why I believe using a system of percentage is fair to everyone.”

Heavenly Eye immediately sneered and said, ”Don’t you mean that I might ask too much of you and cause your decrepit body to fall apart, old man?”

Despite making good points, Sword Will still shook his head and said, ”It is true that she might ask for something unreasonable. That can’t be determined yet.”

”Anyway, I don’t want to contribute up to 90% of my limit of Entropy. Especially since your remaining 10% will be bigger than my 10%.”

That was just the tip of the iceberg of what he found unpalatable about the recommendation to use the percentage contribution system. He had a lot more grievances that were more serious than this.
