THE GOD EATER

Then he licked his lips and said, “In that case, I should eat what I purchased before it spoils. It can’t spoil after I paid millions for it.”

He said this as he went to the door. Once he reached the door, he opened it, grabbed Lance, and dragged her body into his room.

No one saw him do this because all of his guards had been sent away. This is also why no one was alarmed that Lance died. After all, no one noticed that she died.

He took her into his room and began the arduous work of extracting her Core Metac. This process was more tedious than normal because the fusion between the Core Metac and its host had deepened.

Her energy threads used to be scattered all over her body, but they have congregated on one spot in her brain and fused with that spot. This spot is the Mind Palace. It worked as an anchor resisting his attempt to pull the Core Metac out of her corpse.

As Fenrir tugged on the Core Metac, he clicked his tongue in admiration and said, “If she were alive, I would definitely be unable to remove this Core Metac from her with the way this Mind Palace is fighting back. Fortunately, she is dead.”

The main function of the Mind Palace is to anchor the cultivator’s sense of self. From what he has heard, the Mind Palace might be the reason rank 5 cultivators can remember who they were in their last life.

So it is not a surprise that the Mind Palace is resisting his manipulation of her energy well. What surprised him was that the resistance was greater than he expected.

Fortunately, she had died, so her Mind Palace started to collapse. This caused its resistance to weaken over time. He also had the Siphon Ability to reduce the energy available for the Mind Palace to do its job.

Even though he had the Siphon Ability and the advantage of death, it still cost him twice as much time to remove the Core Metac, though. It was that strenuous.

So when he finally got the Core Metac out of her, he sighed in relief. Then he grinned and showed all of his teeth as he began to devour the Core Metac.

This step was quick. After all, Fenrir doesn’t play around with its food.

The rank 4 Core Metac fused with Fenrir in less than 5 seconds. Then he felt his existence expand.

It felt as if a switch had been flipped somewhere in his body. This flip opened the floodgates in a dam and let trapped water gush out.

In this case, what was gushing out within him was his potential. The limit that had been holding back his internal energy was no more, so his internal energy began to riot and jump around within him.

This was a good thing because his internal energy was doing this in order to increase in quality. It is a necessary step in advancing to rank 4.

Another necessary step was the change to his energy well. All five energy chambers grew thicker and became stronger as his internal energy continued to riot. This made his energy chambers capable of holding energy of higher density without bursting.

All of these increases to the quality and density of his internal energy also affected his Energy Nexus. After all, it is normal for his Energy Nexus to reflect the changes going on in his energy chamber.

This time, since the energy well was advancing, the Energy Nexus was also advancing. The increase in the quality of energy caused it to become stronger, but it also caused the Energy Nexus to grow some tentacles in this same way that his energy well had grown the energy threads when he advanced to rank 3.

The tentacles that the Energy Nexus grew didn’t spread all over his body like Energy Threads. These tentacles only spread along the brain stem along his neurons to every part of his brain.

As the energy tentacles spread throughout his brain, a copy of his brain was made in the Energy Nexus. But this copy didn’t look like a brain at all. The copy looked like him. This was because what the Energy Nexus was copying were the memories in his brain, not the physical appearance of the brain.

This copy of himself was tiny and see-through like a hologram. It stood still at the center of the Energy Nexus with its eye closed. As all of his life experiences were copied into the Energy Nexus, this small, tiny hologram became clearer and clearer.

Even the memories of his past life and memories of his childhood that he had forgotten were copied. No memory was spared, and everything became perfectly clear to him.

Everything that made him who he was distilled into a tangible form in the Energy Nexus. This transformed the Energy Nexus into the Mind Palace. But it also changed him.

Every event that had ever taken place in his life kept flashing through his mind over and over again. It was as if they just happened to him, not that they had happened a long time ago and that he had forgotten about them.

He kept reliving every little thing that had ever happened to him. What’s worse is that the emotions he felt during those events became much clearer, too.

This wasn’t a bad thing for pleasant experiences. But the clearer sensations of unpleasant events made those events hurt him again. Like that time when Muni tortured them during the initiation program.

During that unfortunate event, he had tried to avoid the pain and other discomfort by taking his mind off the situation. But he couldn’t do that now. Everything was too clear and too raw.

Nothing could distract him from what he was feeling as Muni peeled the skin from his body. The sensation of his skin being separated from his body was as loud as a scream in his ears. It was as if his nerve endings were screaming at him.
