The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Professional Demon Hunting

SHLICK—

The next moment, the man wearing the clown mask cut down the Dog Demon in front of him with a single slash.

He didn’t even give the Dog Demon a chance to cry out.

He then stored the corpse in his Storage Magical Artifact.

The entire process took less than a minute.

The homeless man was so stunned his jaw almost hit the floor.

Suddenly, the clown glanced in his direction.

A pair of indifferent eyes sent a shiver down the homeless man’s spine.

For a moment, his body seemed to turn to stone.

Fortunately, the clown didn’t do anything to him.

He then vanished into the night.

After a long while, the homeless man finally snapped out of his shock.

He quickly rubbed his eyes and saw that the street was completely empty.

Everything that had just happened felt like a dream.

He scrambled over to the spot.

As it turned out, all that was left on the road was a pool of blood.

The Dog Demon’s corpse was gone, and the man in the clown mask had disappeared.

Only the bloodstain on the ground seemed to tell him...

...that what had just happened was not a dream.

On a rooftop.

Lin Yi took out his phone and sent a message in the group chat.

Joker: I’ve been searching all night and haven’t found a single 1-star Dog Demon. I did kill a few rank-3 and 4 ones, though.

Mystic: Joker, you’re looking for Dog Demons too?

Joker: Isn’t Brother Sheng’s mission to find a 1-star Dog Demon?

Little Shrimp: I’ve been looking all night too, but I haven’t even seen a single demon beast.

Ranger: It’s so weird. Usually around this time, even if you don’t find a 1-star Dog Demon, you’ll run into a few other demon beasts. What’s been going on these past two days? The higher-level ones have all vanished!

Old Yao: Something feels off. A major incident happened at the container warehouse last night. A lot of demon beasts and cultists died. Have you guys heard?

Mystic: For real? Haven’t heard a thing.

Ranger: That wasn’t in the news. How do you know?

Old Yao: It’s inside info, so don’t ask. Anyway, the lack of demon beasts in the city these past two days is probably related to this. I feel like things are about to change in Xinghai City.

Little Shrimp: What do you mean, ”change”? Old Yao, elaborate...

For a moment, the group chat buzzed with discussion about what happened last night.

Lin Yi found it strange as well.

The incident at the container warehouse last night.

He hadn’t heard anyone discuss it all day, and it wasn’t even on the morning news.

Clearly, the officials had suppressed the news.

’It’s not hard to understand, if you think about it.’

Nearly a hundred people killed in one night, and all of them were Blood Drop Believers.

Along with quite a few demon beasts.

If the news got out, it would undoubtedly cause a city-wide panic.

Suppressing the information was a way to reduce unnecessary trouble.

But who would have thought that this guy named [Old Yao] in the group chat would actually mention it.

’Inside info? What kind of inside info?’

’Could he be an official insider?’

Lin Yi felt a bit curious about this [Old Yao].

But it was only a fleeting curiosity.

There’s no such thing as a perfect secret.

An incident like this would spread within small circles even without news reports.

In the end, only a few people would know about it.

It wouldn’t cause too much of a stir.

Lin Yi glanced at the pointless chat history again.

He put his phone away and leaped off the rooftop.

Soon, he vanished into the night once more...

”Hero, hero, spare me, spare my life...”

「Over an hour later.」

In an underground parking garage.

A corpulent Pig Demon sat on the ground, covered in blood.

It leaned back, constantly trying to retreat.

And less than two meters away from it lay a corpse.

It was an elderly female Scavenger. Half of her head had been gnawed away.

One of her arms was stripped to the bone.

Half of her body was torn apart. The scene was too horrible to look at.

Lin Yi stared coldly at the Pig Demon, not even wanting to waste a single word.

He strode forward and swung his blade down.

SQUELCH—

The massive pig head fell from its shoulders.

Its corpulent body crashed heavily to the ground.

[Congratulations on slaying a rank-4 Pig Demon]

[Plunder talent entry?]

[Gluttony (White): Either eating or on the way to eat. Never full. Strength -10%, Physique -10%]

[Food Conversion (Blue): Consumed food can be converted into a small amount of Qi and Blood]

When the plunderable talents appeared before Lin Yi again...

...he was drawn to the last talent entry.

’Consumed food can be converted into a small amount of Qi and Blood?’

’No wonder a Pig Demon with no combat talent could cultivate to rank-4.’

’So it relied entirely on eating to raise its cultivation level?’

Lin Yi didn’t hesitate at all.

He made his choice immediately.

[Congratulations, you have plundered the ’Food Conversion (Blue)’ entry]

As for the [Gluttony] talent, Lin Yi didn’t even consider it.

’Always hungry, constantly eating.’

’Crucially, it also reduces my strength and physique.’

’The loss outweighs the gain.’

’What if I miss a meal, or don’t eat for an hour?’

’Will I immediately become weak?’

’It’s better not to have a talent like that.’

Lin Yi then dug out a murky, dark yellow Demon Core from the Pig Demon’s body.

He stored it in his Storage Magical Artifact, then casually stored the corpse as well.

All of these could be sold on the black market for money.

By indiscriminately hunting demon beasts and selling their Demon Cores and corpses...

...he had built up his savings considerably.

At least until his Martial Arts exam, he no longer had to worry about money.

He even had enough to cover his Martial Arts University tuition.

Now, he just needed to improve his cultivation and prepare for the Martial Arts exam.

Just as he was about to leave the underground parking garage, he glanced again at the half-eaten Scavenger.

There wasn’t a ripple of emotion or sympathy in his eyes.

Death was a common occurrence in the Old District.

Especially at night, when even people from the Martial Arts Police Station rarely came out.

At night, the Old District was filled with danger and death.

No one was willing to risk their life.

Except for Demon Hunters like Lin Yi.

Even for independent Demon Hunters like them, being killed by demon beasts was a common occurrence.

So, whether it was the Scavengers...

...the homeless, or even Demon Hunters like themselves...

...if you chose to come out at night, you had to be prepared to die.

Therefore, there was nothing worth sympathizing with.

Perhaps one day, Lin Yi too would end up like that Scavenger.

Becoming a demon beast’s midnight snack?

After leaving the parking garage, Lin Yi didn’t linger.

It was already late.

After more than three hours, he still hadn’t found a single 1-star Dog Demon.

It seemed there would be no gains tonight.
