The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Come Upstairs for a While? The Landlord Isn’t Home Tonight

It was deep into the night.

The night was starless, and heavy, dark clouds pressed down, making it hard to breathe.

The security guard, Uncle Liu, stood outside, gazing up at the night sky.

”Looks like it’s going to rain, huh?”

He muttered to himself.

The weather in Xinghai City was just like that—unpredictable and strange.

Especially during the rainy season, it would rain for twenty days out of the month.

The sky was always gloomy, and the ground was always damp.

The roads in some of the older residential areas were muddy year-round, making them very difficult to walk on.

Uncle Liu stood outside for a little while longer.

He glanced back into the residential complex and saw that the lights in the few old buildings were already out.

Every household had turned off their lights and gone to bed.

Just as he was about to turn and head back to the guardhouse, he suddenly felt a chill run down his spine.

Uncle Liu quickly looked back and saw a dark figure dashing into the complex at an incredible speed.

He quickly took out his flashlight and shone it in that direction.

”Who is it? Who went in there?”

No one answered.

Only the whistling of the wind blew past him.

Uncle Liu was not a young man. Even if he had grown indifferent to matters of life and death, he couldn’t help but feel a little spooked at this moment.

The Old District had never been a place with good public security.

Demon beasts ran rampant, and violence and crime were everywhere.

In unseen corners, bloodshed and death played out daily.

The so-called Martial Arts Police Station and security patrols were completely useless.

During the day, they might come out and put on a show.

But at night, those off duty went home, and those on duty would turtle up in their offices and not come out.

The long-time residents of the Old District had long since lost any sense of security. Simply surviving another day was considered a blessing.

Uncle Liu swallowed hard.

The dark, oppressive complex was filled with a dangerous atmosphere.

He decided not to meddle and quickly opened the door to the guardhouse, stepping inside.

The light then went out. Uncle Liu lay down to sleep...

Ever since Lin Yi moved out of the house, life for Lin Dazhi, Liu Hongmei, and Lin Yu had been quite pleasant.

The family of three was harmonious, and with less of the usual violence and verbal abuse, Lin Dazhi felt particularly comfortable.

A sudden urge to urinate forced Lin Dazhi, who had only just fallen asleep, to crawl out of bed.

He walked out of the bedroom and went into the bathroom.

A torrent of rushing water indicated he had been holding it in for a long time.

As the sound dwindled to a trickle, he gave a sudden shudder and let out a sigh of relief.

Just as he was about to pull up his pants and return to bed to resume his sweet dreams, he suddenly heard a door close outside.

Startled, Lin Dazhi quickly turned to look outside.

But the living room lights were off; it was pitch-black, obstructing his view completely.

Then he heard another soft THUD.

Lin Dazhi rushed out of the bathroom and first went into Lin Yi’s room.

He thought Lin Yi might have snuck back in the middle of the night.

But when he entered, he saw there was no longer any place for someone to live in the room.

The day after Lin Yi moved out, they had moved all the junk from around the house into his room.

They had completely blocked off any way for Lin Yi to return.

Lin Dazhi had no intention of ever letting Lin Yi come back home anyway.

’No one’s here?’

He glanced around the room.

’Even if Lin Yi did come back, there’s nowhere for him to stay now.’

He then turned off the light and walked out of the room.

His gaze fell upon the room next door.

Suddenly, he caught the faint scent of blood.

This made Lin Dazhi’s heart tighten. He walked into the living room.

The smell of blood filled the living room.

And the smell was even stronger near the entryway.

Lin Dazhi grew extremely nervous. ’Could a thug or a Demon Beast have snuck in?’

’But I was just in the bathroom. If a Demon Beast or a thug had gotten in, I should have been their first target.’

And this smell of blood... He walked to the entryway and looked down.

He saw a pair of muddy sneakers, tossed messily aside.

He recognized the shoes; they were Lin Yu’s.

Lin Dazhi crouched down to take a closer look and saw that the mud on them was fresh.

And on the soles, there were even some brownish bloodstains...

This discovery startled Lin Dazhi.

He quickly got up and walked toward Lin Yu’s room.

He carefully grasped the doorknob, slowly pressing down.

Once the latch clicked, he cautiously pushed the door open.

He had just pushed it halfway open and hadn’t yet taken a step inside when a dark figure suddenly flashed before him.

Lin Dazhi’s heart leaped in panic. Terrified, he was just about to scream.

THWACK—

A heavy fist smashed viciously into his face.

In an instant, Lin Dazhi’s vision went black, and his consciousness faded away.

The whites of his eyes showing, he fell backward, stiff as a board.

Only then did the person in the room walk out. It was Lin Yu.

In the light from the bathroom, he could be seen wearing a long black robe.

A giant blood drop was printed on the back of the robe.

But his face was pale, completely drained of color.

He glanced down at Lin Dazhi, then gently checked for breath under his nose.

After confirming he was still breathing, he retreated back into the room.

With a soft CLICK.

The door was closed once more.

...

”Sister Xue, thanks for taking me back.

Why don’t you come upstairs for a bit? The landlord isn’t home today!”

They had arrived outside the Jingnan Hufu District.

Lin Yi said to Snow Angel with a smile.

But the cold eyes behind Snow Angel’s mask glanced at Lin Yi.

She shook her head gently and said, ”No, you should head back. I have other things to do... Also, don’t call me Sister Xue!”

”Then what should I call you? How about Sister Angel?”

Lin Yi continued with a smile.

In response, he earned an eye-roll from Snow Angel.

She didn’t say another word.

Her body quickly vanished into the darkness.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone, swallowed by the night.

Lin Yi smiled and headed straight for the main gate of the complex.

When he got home, the apartment was pitch-black. Tang Qinru wasn’t home tonight.

He was all alone.

After changing his shoes, Lin Yi first went to his room to change his clothes.

The slaughter tonight had left him spattered with a lot of bloodstains.

’It’s a good thing Tang Qinru isn’t back, otherwise I’d have no way to explain this to her. She might even mistake me for a criminal. I already come home late every day, and tonight I’m covered in blood. It would be hard for anyone not to get the wrong idea.’

After he changed his clothes and took a shower,

He went from his bedroom to the kitchen.

Sure enough, he saw four dishes and a soup laid out on the dining table.

And all four were meat dishes. Most likely, it was more Demon Beast Meat that Tang Qinru had arranged for him.

However, Lin Yi had drunk a bottle of nutrient compound earlier.

The feeling of being full hadn’t faded yet.

He really couldn’t eat another bite.

’I’ll just heat this up and eat it tomorrow morning when I wake up!’

Right now, Lin Yi couldn’t wait to get back to his room and check out his haul for the night.

’I killed so many Blood Drop members and demon beasts... I must have plundered quite a few talents, right?’
