The Conquerors Path

Chapter 1079: Chapter 1077 — Echoes of the First Sea

The absolute, crushing blackness of the uncharted trench stretched endlessly before us. It was a sensory deprivation chamber on a planetary scale, a pristine void utterly devoid of the bioluminescent arrogance that defined the upper empires. We stood together on the highest balcony of the Sunken Throne, perfectly insulated within the flawless, invisible sphere of my rewritten reality. The heavy, dead weight of the deepest ocean pressed against my spatial fold, utterly incapable of breaching the warmth of the localised terrestrial atmosphere I had woven around us.

“It has been a very long time since I allowed myself to simply watch the water.”

Krave whispered, her voice barely carrying over the gentle, artificial circulation of air within my barrier.

“The water has not changed. Your perspective of it has.”

I replied smoothly, keeping my right hand resting lightly against the centre of her back.

She did not pull away. The ancient divine kraken, an apex entity of unfathomable power who commanded legions of Dragonic-level maids, simply leaned her weight against my shoulder. The manic, hyper-capitalist energy she had utilised to terrorise the Golden Turtle was completely gone, leaving behind a profound, quiet vulnerability. She was no longer a god projecting absolute authority over an empty kingdom; she was simply a woman seeking an anchor in the dark.

“Before the fall, everything was so different; I could feel more when I touched divinity. Just like the rest of them, I lost the feeling of love; it’s a curse, I say. They were born into it, but losing it from having it is devastating beyond words.”

She murmured, her dark eyes staring out into the fathomless, freezing void.

“A simpler time”

I noted, allowing a faint, dry amusement to thread through my resonant tone.

“An era of absolute, terrifying giants.”

Krave corrected, a heavy, profound nostalgia bleeding into her words.

She raised her left hand, extending her pale fingers toward the invisible boundary of my spatial fold. She did not cast a visible spell. She simply pushed her intent through my barrier, interfacing directly with the raw, elemental memory of the water outside.

“In the past, there were a special type of beasts; they were called the Deep-Singers. Beasts so unfathomably massive that their physical forms spanned entire fault lines.”

Krave explained, her aura flaring with a soft, ethereal luminescence.

Glowing threads of raw memory began to weave through the dark water beyond the balcony. The localised mana responded to her ancient authority, coalescing into massive, ghostly silhouettes that drifted silently through the crushing pressure. They were the spectral echoes of leviathans that dwarfed the modern Whale emperors, creatures constructed of pure, shifting light and forgotten ocean currents.

“They did not hunt. They did not wage war. They simply swam through the crushing dark and sang.”

She continued, her fingers conducting the glowing, spectral currents with a liquid grace.

“I assume they sang well.”

I observed, watching the massive, ghostly silhouettes glide past the pearl railing of the balcony.

“The Whales hum. The Deep-Singers rearranged the molecular structure of the water with their voices. They sang the tectonic plates into existence.”

Krave smiled, the expression soft and entirely unguarded in the dim, pulsing light of the spectral beasts.

“And they sang you to sleep.”

I deduced quietly, recognising the soothing, rhythmic frequency of the light she was projecting into the void.

“They were the only entities in the world large enough to make me feel small. It was comforting.”

She confessed, dropping her hand back to her side, allowing the massive, glowing silhouettes to slowly dissolve back into the pristine blackness of the trench.

“The ocean grew loud, Austin. The giants died, the ice melted, and the mortals began to multiply. They filled the dark with their squabbling and their gold.”

Krave sighed, her fingers lightly brushing against the sleeve of my heavy coat.

“Civilisation is inherently noisy.”

I stated mildly, not moving my arm, perfectly maintaining my relaxed posture.

“It is exhausting. That is why I built this palace. That is why I carved this specific trench with my bare hands, and that is why I went to sleep, ironic when I lived to defend this place, yet I hide from it.”

She admitted, her hand slowly sliding down the thick fabric of my sleeve.

The movement was entirely deliberate. Her pale, elegant fingers traced the line of my wrist before coming to rest directly over my hand, which was resting on the smooth pearl railing of the balcony. The ambient heat of her divine aura bled through the leather of my glove, a stark, profound contrast to the absolute zero of the water just inches away from our barrier.

“But the sleep became just as exhausting as the noise.”

Krave whispered, her thumb gently tracing the ridge of my knuckles.

“A prolonged stasis offers no conceptual growth. It merely delays the inevitable requirement to interact with reality.”

I analysed softly, shifting my hand just enough to smoothly interlock my fingers with hers.

The physical contact was an absolute, fundamental shift in the architecture of our dynamic. It severed the final lingering threads of our chaotic, sarcastic partnership and established a space of pure, unadulterated intimacy. Her grip was strong, carrying the latent kinetic weight of an apex predator, yet incredibly gentle, seeking connection rather than control.

“You cannot remain in a tomb once you have remembered how to breathe.”

I pointed out, my thumb brushing against the smooth, cold surface of a dark crystal ring on her finger.

“I had forgotten.”

She whispered, her dark eyes drifting closed as she leaned heavier against my shoulder.

“You reminded me. You walked into my life just some time ago, and it all came crashing back. I thought I was satisfied with my life, with what I had, but it seems I was wrong. I was tired, tired of protecting this whole place and now feel alienated from it…”

Krave added, a soft, genuine smile returning to her lips.

“Then come with me to the surface for some time; I can use a wingman along with Luna.”

I said, a low hum of amusement vibrating in my chest, though I did not loosen my hold on her hand.

“What a sinful man~”

She countered, opening her eyes to look up at my profile.

“I suppose I can accept that classification.”

I conceded quietly, looking down into her ancient, fathomless eyes, completely anchoring the heavy, undeniable tension bridging the space between us.

Time in the abyssal depths did not function along a standard terrestrial axis. Without a sun to track, and without the frantic, localised schedules of mortal empires to adhere to, hours slipped away into the quiet dark. We stood there in the absolute silence, our hands joined over the pearl railing, watching the freezing water press harmlessly against my rewritten reality.

“What will you do when we return to the surface?”

She asked, breaking the long, comfortable stretch of silence that had settled over the balcony.

“A lot of stuff, which means a lot of opportunity for you to mess around.”

I replied, slowly tracing the veins on the back of her hand.

This made her smile.

“Sounds fun, but you do know that I have restrictions, right? on how I can act on the land.”

She noted, her voice dropping an octave, striking a chord of pure, unfiltered intimacy.

I did not immediately respond. The conceptual weight of her statement was absolute. She was not merely flirting; the divine kraken was fundamentally acknowledging a shift in her eternal coordinate. She was tying her presence in the waking world to the space directly beside me.

“Yeah, I do, but there are more ways to have fun than causing havoc, right?”

I offered, maintaining my clinical tone while simultaneously projecting an aura of profound, unshakeable stability.

“True….true.”

She whispered, her gaze completely locked onto mine.

“Then consider your slumber officially, permanently concluded.”

I stated calmly, withdrawing my right hand from her back to gently brush a stray lock of dark hair from her face.

She leaned into the touch, her eyes fluttering shut as a deep, shuddering sigh escaped her lips. The crushing weight of her eternal loneliness, a psychological burden she had carried since the tectonic plates first shifted, visibly melted away within the warmth of the spatial fold.

“The maids will be entirely confused.”

Krave murmured, a faint trace of her manic amusement finally returning to her voice.

“El is a Dragonic-level entity. I am confident she will adapt to the structural realignment of your schedule.”

I noted, dropping my hand back to rest comfortably against the pearl railing beside hers.

“She will likely attempt to formally bow to you every time you enter a room now.”

She warned playfully, opening her eyes to look out over the dark water once more.

“I will simply adjust her spatial perception to ensure she bows to the wall instead.”

I replied smoothly, securing my fingers through hers.

Krave let out a bright, ringing laugh, the sound entirely free of malice, echoing softly against the abyssal iron archway behind us. The heavy, melancholic atmosphere of the Sunken Throne had been entirely broken. The empty kingdom was still impossibly vast, and the ocean outside was still completely dark, but the space within my barrier was perfectly, flawlessly alive.
