Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1018: Chapter 812: Hill Buried in Experiments

The moonlight that Celene transformed into gradually dimmed… It seems that this Maiden of the Moon cannot move freely in Toril as easily, possibly having only this one avatar to use, not to mention the considerable divine power consumed.

Hill sighed quietly and walked towards his study… Fortunately, he had a good mindset and never planned to create any trouble in Toril… Otherwise, with all these deities coming to Agleya one after another, he would have failed a million times.

When the Undead Tribe returned to the Hidden Town, Vila was still bargaining with the Temporal Artifact, while Hill stood with Fran before the half-plane within Purwell, waiting for that last minute… The power of life surged within Purwell, and the various flowers planted by the Little Fairy in the small flower beds inside the Otherworldly Whale bloomed splendidly… Blossoms and withers formed seeds, seeming to cycle through several springs and autumns within the span of a minute.

Looking at the thick layer of flowers on the ground, Hill felt that his half-plane might differ from what he expected… but he clearly intended it to be water-based!

After all, this is the half-plane within Purwell, and Hill genuinely wished to leave this unfortunate Otherworldly Whale with a home that could sustain itself even in his absence.

But with this vigorous life force… the combination of water and earth seems to have created a half-plane leaning towards Heavenly Mountain…

Standing before the Light Gate of the half-plane, Hill hesitated for a long time, unsure about entering, until the impatient Fran standing by finally pushed him inside.

Just as Hill originally imagined, the golden Gate of Light was located in a bay at the center of the continent, immersed among the gently lapping shallow waves at the shore.

Above in the sky, stars twinkled alongside silver moonlight, with a gentle breeze brushing against Hill’s face, giving the feeling of early summer intoxication within the half-plane, as opposed to the chilly spring breeze of the outside world.

Hill took a few steps, sensing the ocean he had created… though it lacked the nearly holy water-like essence of the sea in Heavenly Mountain, it could be considered a diluted version… Moreover, Hill placed a waterfall mountain refined from Agleya’s Sacred Artifact at the center of the continent.

If any Undead Creatures dared to set foot in this half-plane, they would likely find their strength severely diminished.

Regarding the continent, most of the mountain ranges and hills were already covered in lush green… Hill had scattered countless seeds into the half-plane, which now had transformed into towering trees and blooming green grass.

Only the central plains of the continent still haven’t grown any plants… Hill intends to cultivate some crops here.

“Truly, this half-plane is your creation!” Fran exclaimed in a sigh behind him, “Not a bit of destructive power. Ah, well, not exactly… if an Evil Faction enters here, they will likely be completely suppressed… but short of being attacked, wouldn’t you invite some Evil Faction into your half-plane?”

Hill gave a bitter smile, “Maybe, the Lady of Darkness?”

“I thought William was the one who got along well with her?” Fran hadn’t just idled this whole time… Hill’s open-air garden hadn’t been quiet!

Fortunately, Hill was attentive and had List tell him many things, otherwise, how could Fran have confined himself to his lab to hide!

However, he clearly understood that without Hill’s type of affinity, staying in that garden would only bring trouble to Hill… and anyone with a bit of sensibility wouldn’t linger while Shaer and Celene were having a conversation!

Hill managing to achieve this was already a miracle.

Fran, focusing on the thriving land before him, found himself speechless… he was enveloped in a warm, invigorating life force, and if he stayed in this half-plane, his lifespan would likely increase significantly… but he was from the Neutral Faction!

Having such a sensation could only suggest that Hill never intended to exclusively welcome Kind Alignments.

Deep down, he always knew that the reason Hill could maintain good relations with these powerful deities in Toril was for one reason… to them, Hill was harmless.

Yet Hill, though apparently harmless, had shown his ferocity before.

A mage who could turn supportive Water Magic into a lethal weapon, a formidable foe who could tear apart a Giant Dragon without hesitation—anyone who genuinely thought of him as completely harmless would find their bodies unclaimed, for their death would be too absurd.

But Hill managed to construct his half-plane like Heavenly Mountain… No, even more comfortable than Heavenly Mountain, at least he couldn’t enter that dreadful place.

Fran thought helplessly, his grandson distinctly wouldn’t engage in that weak ruse of feigning weakness, but Hill’s innate laws seemed to always make him appear like a rabbit rather than a great bear, genuinely wondering how the Law of the Earth could have such trivial preferences… Fran knew well that water and wind were secondary laws for Hill.

What truly governed Hill’s destiny would only be the Earth.

So he intended to find a way to create some powerful destructive magical machinery for Hill!

Otherwise, if always regarded as a harmless rabbit, Hill would one day transform from a cuddly Earth Bear into an enraged bear.

All this trouble was caused by Hill’s ancestors who enjoyed playing dumb… Yes, particularly that fellow named Haiweirsen!

If he hadn’t fooled himself so thoroughly, how could Hill have inherited such a useless innate law!

Hill was unaware of his maternal grandfather’s grumbling about his ancestors, he simply crossed his arms and pondered, “Grandfather, I’ll just treat this as a vacation villa here… the laws of this half-plane lean a bit too much towards life force.

Next time, I must remember to use fewer high-level materials that increase life force when crafting a half-plane.

Here, it’s hard even to draw enemies in for a fight… Even if my enemy belongs to the Evil Faction, I might not bear to bring them in and destroy such a beautiful world.”

Hill understood himself well… The words ‘might not’ were just to flatter himself, he absolutely couldn’t do it.

Fran released a 10-meter-tall magic ballista from his space ring: “This will do, no need to expend the power of laws from the half-plane.”

Hill looked up at the intimidating, powerful weapon in front of him… How many dragons had his grandfather slain in Aber?

And what about the other biological materials? They seemed even stronger than those from the giant dragons… Could it be from the primordials?

Hill hesitantly turned and asked, “Grandfather, did you encounter the battlefield of the ancient giant dragons and the primordials?”

“When I first entered Aber, it was also by mistake,” Fran said expressionlessly, “The only space fluctuations that could catch an Archmage off guard would be these battlefields.

Both sides were too powerful, and even after tens of thousands of years, the space vortices they created are irresistible.

The reason I was hunted by the Abel Dragons was that they discovered I emerged near the battlefield.”

He revealed a cold smile: “Unfortunately, their abilities were no match for our ancestors… After killing a dozen or so, those dragons backed off.”

Hill suddenly realized; no wonder the Black Dragons even sent out their matriarchs… The remains left behind by the primordials after death could at least make a subartifact.

Though Aber seemed closed off, capable Archmages from Toril weren’t entirely unable to enter that world, many Archmages would discreetly go treasure hunting there.

Both the primordials and the ancient giant dragons died in significant numbers when vying for control of Aber… But these ancient battlefields almost always existed in independent spaces, even the dragons who have become the Lords of Aber can’t easily find them now.

Unearthing any battlefield could make a dragon family instantly wealthy… So the daily routine for these dragons is to search everywhere for relics.

Those foreign Archmages are closely watched, but Fran entered by accident, without using the sole Star Gate in Aber.

Hill circled the massive ballista a few times and turned to Fran for confirmation: “Grandfather, is this a subartifact-level ballista? Or a replicable finished product?”

Fran squinted and nodded: “This is yours now, see how much you can learn from it… Even without biological materials, you could try to see if you can mimic similar materials with metal.

Don’t waste the capital granted to you by the earth.”

The demigod artifacts of Teraxil might not mean much here in Toril… As for the Sphere of All Spells in his hands, it was a product of effort and serendipity; even if he gathered the exact same materials again, Fran made it himself and he’s not sure he could create another identical one.

But for an Alchemist Master, alchemy items that can’t be replicated aren’t truly successful… They only prove his upper limit, not his lower limit.

However, as for the magic ballista, as long as there are sufficient materials, Fran could make countless copies… and that’s enough.

He doesn’t care if a piece of equipment can’t be recreated due to material scarcity, as long as he can ensure he can do it again.

Hill fiddled with the long hair draped across his chest: Is his grandfather already this powerful?

He could feel that these materials were just scraps from those two powerful creatures, not the most energetic ones… The meaning of a subartifact made with a dragon heart versus a dragon’s claw is entirely different!

Hill rubbed his hands together, thinking that for the next four years, Toril probably wouldn’t have much in the way of special fun for him… oh, no… major events.

He resolved to research and find the most suitable metallic materials to replicate a similar magic ballista in the shortest time possible… Fran’s hint of only giving him one was clear enough.

His grandfather has started giving him homework again… This time the classwork has turned into a graduation thesis, and Hill will have to put in more effort.

He silently took out the puppets from his pendant and summoned List to give him the blueprint of the holiday castle he had in mind.

He didn’t want to worry about anything after that.

Hill’s current task… is endless experimentation!
