Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1001: Chapter 796: Revenge Should Be Thorough

Hill thought for a moment, then placed the two round boxes separately in the pond and under the big tree from earlier, then took a few steps back to the Lily of the Valley, bowing in a mage’s salute.

Although he remained silent, and the garden was filled with silence, the two boxes almost simultaneously disappeared in front of Hill.

These two were indeed watching Hill closely all along.

Initially, Hill considered keeping the two boxes for later, thinking there might be a reason not to return them to their owners immediately.

But he suddenly realized, even though he thought Shaer and Celene might clash again, he couldn’t show it... It’s best to treat every instance as if it’s the last.

The goddesses’ dignity was more important than their pride... even for Celene, who seemingly cared about nothing.

When Hill returned to his study, not only did Lynn just push open the door, but Fran, knowing everything was temporarily over, also stepped in from the other side of the balcony.

”Hill.” Fran spoke with a frown, ”Is there anything you can say?”

About to speak, Lynn immediately closed his mouth, watching Hill with concern.

”Don’t worry, Grandpa.” Hill gave a helpless smile, ”Celene and Shaer appeared together, and things are already at their best conclusion... Fortunately, Shaer’s focus is now on perfecting the Shadow Realm and rebuilding a Shadow Weave.”

”Celene?” Lynn suddenly murmured softly, ”Isn’t it Suren anymore? So soon?”

Hill hadn’t expected Lynn to be interested not in how Celene and Shaer managed to get along for so long, but in Celene regaining great divine power... Hill thought Coron would focus on the opposite, as the Father of Elves educated Hill on the Toril Gods’ relations, believing Shaer and Celene would one day defeat each other... So, is it because of the foreign god system?

Oh, Hill remembered... Actually, Coron and Geush, the God of Orcs, were also born simultaneously on the World Tree... So he didn’t think being born together meant being inseparable... But he and Geush fought fiercely the moment they saw each other!

Shaer and Celene had been close collaborators for hundreds of thousands, even millions of years!

Perhaps the Elven Pantheon didn’t have as much understanding as the native Toril deities... Especially the well-informed Singers, who might have long formed their judgments about the relationship between the two twin goddesses.

Hill recalled that since the Years of Turmoil, no Toril deities had been involved in the struggle between the Silvermoon and the Dark Night.

”The moonlight of Toril is already as bright as it was in ancient times.” Hill suppressed his wandering thoughts, smiling as he responded to Lynn, then he turned his gaze to Fran, ”Grandpa, please sit down! I can answer any questions you have; there’s nothing here I can’t share with you.”

Fran shook his head, ”I’m not interested in matters concerning deities, I just want to know if the many secrets you’re hiding will harm you.”

Hill answered straightforwardly, ”Of course not. That’s the business of the Toril world and has nothing to do with me. Since I remain an outsider, discovering things doesn’t mean I intend to get involved, which is why these deities frequently appear in my domain.

My stance has always been firm, and the Toril Gods actually understand...as long as they don’t provoke me, I’m not interested in participating in anything.”

Especially in the current Toril, if Hill took the Undead Tribe into the fray, it would disrupt many things... But if he didn’t let the Undead Tribe out... for instance, the plan of Tablets of Fate regarding the ravaged Kalinsan would fall apart.

The world of deities has certain rules, and if anyone insists on troubling Hill, then regardless of how he retaliates, the World Will of Toril will not determine that he owes this world... The first to provoke is always the one deemed at fault in this world driven by individual power.

So despite the tumultuous winds in Toril, Hill knew that knowing everything kept him very safe... As long as he remained silent, AO and the Tablets of Fate owed him... especially since Kelben was the first to offend!

Fran waved his hand, turning directly to leave, ”It’s good you understand this, but never be careless, nor rely too much on your luck, especially in this world, unexpected fortune often hides great trouble.

I won’t leave the laboratory any time soon unless something special comes up, so don’t call me.”

Hill could only smile as he saw him off... Although he hadn’t heard the whole conversation, it seemed Fran had already put these somewhat crazy Toril deities on a blacklist, blocking them entirely, not wanting to understand the inexplicable things they did.

”What happened, Hill?” Lynn asked as he watched Fran leave and then sat down in a single-seat sofa.

”Celene and Shaer’s discussion was a bit hard for Grandpa to accept, he’s a very standard mage who likes life to be orderly.” Hill explained simply.

The relationship between Shaer and Celene is something even those primordial beings from the origin of time likely can’t accurately determine. Hearing them speak would likely leave most people baffled... Anyone who truly thought they could exploit the rivalry between these sisters for personal gains probably ended up dead without even a burial site.

But if one tries to walk a tightrope between them, the death would be even more tragic.

Therefore, when facing the two of them, Hill mostly just replied simply and tried not to initiate conversations... Otherwise, calling out to one before the other could lead to a terrifying disaster.

Sensing Hill’s cautiousness, Lynn wisely refrained from making any comments. He was accustomed to the reality that formidable divine powers often watched over Hill, knowing the best approach was to not mention it at all. Besides, Miliel had always solemnly advised him to keep his distance from the moonlight and night.

If those two goddesses, or even their subordinates, were to fight, his best action would be to swiftly steer clear.

Quickly changing the subject, he asked, ”Why can’t the Zholar suddenly control those goblins?”

”Rose’s Spider Magic Net was blown up by Shaer and a large portion was devoured,” Hill replied with a smile, ”No matter how ambitious Rose once was, she now can only stay in the Abyss and reweave her net... even three Wax Melt Demons died.”

From twelve, it dwindled to eleven, then rapidly to nine... Hill truly felt a bit sympathetic for Rose; those twelve were products she had accumulated over tens of thousands of years.

Lynn couldn’t help but widen his eyes; for elves living in The North, Rose and her Zholar had been the greatest disaster... For so many years, both Eternity Island and other forest communities had suffered invasions from the Zholar, and nothing seemed to prevent them.

This was the first time he heard of Rose being so miserable.

”How was this achieved?” He asked, somewhat perplexed.

”Rose tried to scheme against Shaer, but unfortunately got counter-schemed,” Hill shrugged, ”I assume Shaer has been eyeing Rose’s web since she devoured the deity of the Underdark, Ebrandor. But she had more important goals previously, so she hadn’t acted on the Spider Magic Net.

This time, losing the Shadow Weave made her swiftly change her target... After all, compared to advancing further, she now wishes to stabilize her power.”

Hill’s explanation was simple, yet Lynn’s expression kept changing unpredictably, and he suddenly asked, ”Does it have anything to do with the world of Gerns? The Singer is quite curious.”

”The Gerns World once had a Weave imitated by a Duke of Demons. When it eventually got destroyed, half was snatched by William for the Undead Tribe, and the other half was grabbed by Rose for the Spider Magic Net,” Hill replied straightforwardly, ”Shaer was also present then... so it’s quite normal for Rose to suffer.”

Lynn helplessly pressed down on his forehead, ”The Singer feels his avatar died unjustly.”

Hill couldn’t help but laugh, ”The Singer had quite an enjoyable time in Gerns, just the ending was unexpected. I thought he returned to Toril normally.”

Lynn shook his head, ”It’s perfectly normal; the Goddess of the Night has a strong passion for secrecy.”

This should’ve been said by Miliel himself, even though he was also a bard, Lynn preferred the melodious songs of the forest over the sentimental ballads of dance halls.

”Be cautious around Edna,” Hill shifted the topic, ”I think the Haber Family might have an interest in her... Edna’s father still hasn’t been found, right?”

”No, it’s said he went out to sea. You know the current situation, no one knows if he might be transferred somewhere else by the Primordial Power... So, has something happened?” Lynn immediately perked up; he knew Hill wouldn’t casually bring up something—he hadn’t even mentioned it to his family’s Singer concerning Edna.

Born and raised in Toril, Lynn understood some things are better left unknown... Otherwise, if their gossip-loving Major God unintentionally affected the calculations of the Tablets of Fate, he might end up cast back to the mortal realm.

For gods like Miliel, who only sing, dance, and woo lovers, it’s best to avoid the grand Path of Destiny for longevity.

Even knowing Miliel was listening, Hill straightforwardly spilled everything about the Haber Family’s dealings... He believed within minutes, Azuth, the Deity of Mages, would learn his son was nearly made a sacrifice. Even though the chaos of the Weave had left the Goddess of Magic’s faction of deities at a loss, he’d find a way to contact his own son.

No matter how many shortcomings Azuth had, no one could deny his talent in spells, Hill couldn’t help but glance at the Ring of Winter on his hand.

Some matters Hill couldn’t personally intervene in, but the victim certainly could: Edna’s father likely thinks Kelben is causing him trouble, so he’s bound to seek revenge. Hill had no doubt about an Archmage’s desire for payback... although there’s nothing wrong with that, the mastermind shouldn’t be allowed to roam free, right?

The revenge must be comprehensive.
