Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Releasing Water

Everyone’s anger was simmering, and on this side, Xu Hua had once again cast his fishing hook, baited with a mutant frog, into the pond and slowly pulled the rope.

After a while, Xu Hua felt a weight in his hand, as if something was caught.

”Got it, it’s hooked again.”

Immediately, Xiao Zhe and the others rushed over, grabbing the rope and pulling it with all their might.

Moments later, the rope slowly dragged to the pond’s edge, and from a distance, Yang Xiao saw that there were no ripples on the water, unlike when there was a big fish.

But Xu Hua and the others felt it was difficult to pull the rope.

Suddenly, ripples appeared on the water, as if a group of fish was swimming at the bottom.

With a splash, dozens of huge tilapia surfaced, their dorsal fins bristling with bone spurs.

With a whoosh, dozens of bone spurs shot through the air towards Xiao Zhe and the others.

Xiao Zhe, Xu Hua, and the others quickly dodged, but five or six people were still hit by the bone spurs from the tilapia.

The bone spurs were like sharp swords. Two boys were hit in vital areas and died instantly, while the others were severely injured.

There was a burst of shouting, and everyone retreated, moving away from the pond’s edge.

The main goal of Xiao Zhe’s expedition was to hunt the mutant fish monsters in the pond, but unexpectedly, it resulted in three deaths and several injuries. The others were terrified and lost all confidence in hunting the monsters in the water.

Xiao Zhe and Xu Hua discussed and decided to temporarily descend the mountain, return to camp to recuperate and boost morale. They planned to seek revenge after elevating their genetic attributes and gaining stronger abilities.

”Xiao Zhe, just leaving like this? Not avenging your brothers?”

Yang Xiao smiled at Xiao Zhe.

Xiao Zhe looked awkward and somewhat ashamed as he said:

”Yang Xiao, I underestimated the mutant fish in this pond. Sooner or later, I will have my revenge, but not now. Haha, stop mocking me. Do you think you can defeat these fish monsters in the pond?”

Yang Xiao shook his head and said calmly:

”I know my own limits. These mutant fish have been evolving longer than us, so naturally they’re stronger. However, I do have a method to kill them.”

”Haha, you’re just bragging!”

Xiao Zhe said, and without looking back, led the team down the mountain.

Yang Xiao called after them:

”If I manage to kill these fish monsters, what will we bet on?”

”I’ll call you grandpa!”

Xiao Zhe still didn’t look back, confident in his judgment that the largest fish king was too powerful to defeat.

Xiao Zhe and the others descended the mountain.

Huang Wen looked at Yang Xiao:

”Leader, what should we do?”

”What to do? Catch fish!”

”Catch fish?”

Chen Fei, Chen Lu, Dai Yun, Feifei, and the others looked at Yang Xiao.

”Why are you staring at me? Never seen a handsome guy before?”

”Pfft! In our team, you’re the only guy. Besides you, where’s the handsome guy?”

Huang Wen laughed.

Yang Xiao laughed too.

So, Feifei and the others looked seriously at Yang Xiao again:

”Leader, are we really catching fish?”

”Yes!”

Yang Xiao nodded and said:

”If we don’t catch them, sooner or later Xiao Zhe will. The fish in this pond aren’t low-level, and if we can hunt them, there will be plenty of good stuff. Besides, there’s eels, loaches, and various other fish in the water. With these, we won’t have to worry about running out of food for now.”

”Leader, that’s all well and good, but those fish are way too fierce, aren’t they? We’re no match for them.”

Yang Xiao stood up suddenly and asked loudly:

”Dear sisters...”

”Call us elder sisters. As a first-year freshman, what qualifies you to pose as an elder brother?”

Feifei laughed.

Yang Xiao glared at Feifei and continued:

”Let me ask you a question. Birds can’t live without air; what can’t fish live without?”

”That’s dumb, of course, it’s water!”

The girls answered in unison.

So, everyone saw Yang Xiao standing there triumphantly, as if waiting for their admiration.

Then, Chen Fei clapped her forehead, suddenly enlightened, rushed in front of Yang Xiao, and kissed his handsome face hard, shouting:

”Brother, you’re so smart!”

Yang Xiao: ”@#￥%...”

Everyone burst into laughter.

Huang Wen quickly stepped forward and said:

”Okay, everyone, settle down and let the leader explain the method to hunt the fish monsters.”

So, everyone quieted down, looking at Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao cleared his throat and said:

”Actually, everyone has already understood my point. Fish that survive in the water naturally can’t be separated from it. Once they leave the water, no matter what ability they have, they can only die.

This pond covers dozens of acres, but draining it isn’t hard. After all, we’re at the foot of the mountain, where the terrain is relatively high. Look, there’s a drainage gate here.”

Yang Xiao pointed to a water gate beside the road.

This gate was rarely used, just made of several blocks of cement. At this moment, the water barrier was almost level with the pond’s surface, with only a small amount of water overflowing.

This barrier was used to stabilize the water level. Normally, excess water would overflow during heavy rain, flow down a creek along the mountain foot, and empty into a small lake at the academy. When the water level was below the barrier, the pond wouldn’t overflow.

The academy’s small lake was connected to a large drainage ditch that ultimately flowed into the Star River.

Feifei said:

”Leader, if we open the gate, will the fish monsters swim out with the water?”

”Haha, small fish might, but those big ones will get stuck on the creek’s rocks, unable to breathe, and will die.”

Yang Xiao said, silently thanking God that these mutated creatures still needed oxygen to survive.

When everyone thought about draining the pond to capture the water monsters and gain many genetic fragments, they grew excited.

”Leader, when do we start?”

Chen Fei asked eagerly.

”Now, we can start now. Chen Fei, Chen Lu, use elemental attacks to blow up this barrier.”

The barrier was 4 meters high, made by stacking four one-meter cement blocks.

”Hit the first block on top first.”

”Leader, why not remove them all at once? That way, the water flows faster.”

Yang Xiao gave her a look,

”Do you want to flood Kongming Academy? Removing all four blocks, the water will flow too fast, the creek won’t drain quickly enough, and it will cause a small flood.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Fei and the others stopped talking; Lightning, Fireball, Ice Ball, Wind Blade all attacked together, and with a ”boom,” the first cement block shattered, releasing a torrent of water from the pond with a thunderous roar.
