One-Eyed Monster

”That Brass, that’s how he died. The moment this necklace left him, he bled from seven orifices with no signs of life!” Douglas shrugged, finally finishing his eerie tale.

Douglas remembered, but he was shocked, his heart unable to calm for a long time, this bizarre way of dying made him stay beside Brass’s body for a long, long time. In the end, he still buried Brass. After all, he’s not a cold-blooded person.

This necklace gave him an extremely eerie feeling. He kept rubbing it in his hand, the more he rubbed, the more anxious he felt, so he went to the tavern to have a drink to calm his nerves.

Of course, one of his other reasons for coming to the tavern was to find Brass’s mercenaries, and give these mercenaries who were always trying to catch him a taste of their own medicine.

Coincidentally, at that time, he happened to run into those mercenaries making gestures at Igor!

The whole situation was like this, Douglas spoke in detail, and Amoon listened carefully.

Except for some strange parts in it, Amoon couldn’t figure it out no matter how he tried. His brows were tightly knitted, evidently trapped by these clusters of mysteries.

”That’s how things are, and the necklace is right here!” Douglas took out the necklace once again, this was the third time he had taken it out!

But these three times, the first brought disdain, the second surprise, and this time, what did it bring?

This time, it brought confusion!

Yet at this moment, someone was in a state of clarity, not baffled by Douglas’s narrative, nor frowning like Amoon, without a single clue. He appeared calm, looking at the necklace with a familiar feeling, as if he had just experienced such a thing yesterday, very familiar, very natural.

This person was Igor, a young man who had confronted Soul Devourer multiple times.

”This necklace is the medium for the Soul Devourer!” Igor said blandly, pointing at the necklace.

Douglas and Amoon’s attention suddenly shifted to Igor.

Igor was also accustomed to such treatment, and shrugged, ”This necklace has strong energy fluctuations, evidently, at that time it was a confrontation between Soul Devourer and the entity, and unfortunately, you appeared and disrupted the connection between them!”

What Igor said had a bit of information, causing Amoon and Douglas to be a bit dazed. They looked at Igor, indicating for him to continue until they understood.

Igor felt their intense gaze. This wasn’t his first time facing such a situation, so he handled it with ease, completely knowing how to respond to these curious looks.

”Quite unfortunate, when Douglas found Brass, this guy must have been in some advancement process, your appearance disrupted his rhythm, breaking the connection between them, and then they mutually backfired, causing Brass to perish!” Igor explained.

His explanation was still fuzzy, hard to understand.

”Haha, you talk as if it’s the truth. You weren’t even there!” Douglas was dismissive of Igor’s explanation, thinking that Igor hadn’t understood what he had said earlier.

”Uh, it’s not like what you think, maybe you don’t understand Soul Devourer, after all, it’s a new thing!” Igor explained.

”Not quite!” Amoon suddenly said, breaking his silence.

”We’ve heard the rumors about Soul Devourer, there’s no wall impervious to wind in this world, just like the Spirit Core you mentioned, we’ve all heard of it, just haven’t come into contact. Listening to you, I understand what’s going on with this Brass!”

Amoon’s understanding seemed better than Douglas’s.

”Indeed, this Brass was a Soul Devourer, and these people,” Igor pointed at Emile and the Mantai People, ”they are pursuing the power of the Soul Devourer as well.”

”You mean, a Spirit Core added to someone would make them a Soul Devourer!” Amoon continued asking, his understanding ability was indeed strong.

”What you said, does it have anything to do with Brass’s death!” Douglas was still puzzled, unable to understand at all!

”Don’t worry, Master Douglas, I’ll explain it to you clearly!” Igor turned to Douglas, fully understanding his feelings. Confusion is a very uncomfortable feeling, guiding someone gives a sense of achievement, Igor enjoyed this feeling.

”Uh...” Douglas felt strange, as he wasn’t unfamiliar with such news, just like Amoon said, there’s no wall impervious to wind, but Douglas hadn’t thought he could encounter such strange things in this place.

”This Brass was a Soul Devourer, his purpose as a human trafficker was to collect Spirit Cores, and the goal of collecting so many Spirit Cores was to create more Soul Devourers!” Amoon seemed to have an enlightened mind, suddenly deducing so many things!

Igor admired Amoon’s deduction, involuntarily giving a thumbs-up.

Douglas looked at the necklace, unable to see anything special about it.

”You say this thing is a medium, so both guys connected through this thing are dead.” Douglas was perplexed, initially thinking only Brass died before him, but now it seemed there was more than just Brass.

”Correct, Master Douglas, these two guys died competing for one thing, it’s not your fault, but you are somewhat connected. However, these people are heinous, deserving to die.”

”Ah,” Douglas sighed, ”I didn’t expect my hands to be so stained with blood...”

Douglas clearly regretted his experience.

”In some sense, what you harmed cannot be called human, they are evil beings, demons meant to deprive us of our bodies.” Igor comforted Douglas.

Douglas, however, did not relieve his regret due to this.

”What’s so special about this necklace?” Amoon asked, more concerned with the details.

”It’s a medium, meaning these two had to connect and communicate through this thing.” Igor explained.

”Are all Soul Devourers like this?” Amoon delved further, very keen on this detail.

”Not entirely, this is just a special case.” Igor scratched his head, his knowledge of Soul Devourer still came from Tobin Sol, the leader of the Resistors, who he hadn’t heard from recently.
