One-Eyed Monster

Douglas obviously didn’t expect such a thing to happen.

Originally, he was surrounded by the Mantai People, making it impossible to escape, but who would have thought that this leader, the Gray Plain Wolf, would suddenly have such an outburst.

The difficulty of this sudden leap was tremendous, even the eccentric bystanders considered it a rare sight.

The leader, Gray Plain Wolf, had already been injured, and during the leap, it was somewhat scratched by the Mantai People, but it still stared at them with gritted teeth, its aura directly moved the other Mantai People.

Perhaps the phrase from the Mantai Leader to dismiss the wolf drove it crazy; those heartless words made it feel like it had lost its home. The Gray Plain Wolf was always in tune with human emotions, and the old master’s words hurt it, making it sensitive and vulnerable, but being the leader wolf, it couldn’t show such fragility in front of its followers and could only express its resentment through wild actions...

Of course, this was just a wolf’s emotion, and it wouldn’t be perceived by people unless that person was an exceptional Hunter...

Douglas happened to be a Hunter, and he immediately sensed the wolf’s emotions. So he was now desperately comforting the Gray Plain Wolf. The person who unties the bell must be the one who tied it, and Douglas was the one who caused the leader wolf to be abandoned by its original master. In theory, the wolf should hate him the most, but unfortunately, Douglas was skilled at communicating with beasts, so he successfully dissolved this hatred.

”Relax, relax, big guy!” Douglas stroked the Gray Plain Wolf, using his way to comfort it.

The leader wolf’s emotions stabilized slightly, which made the Mantai People’s mounts more daring; these Gray Plain Wolves originally crept around carrying the Mantai People, quietly approaching to surround Douglas again.

Igor saw all this but could do nothing to stop it because he was still being chased by that Wolf Cavalry. The mobility of the cavalry kept Igor in a passive fleeing state, leaving him no opportunity to warn Douglas.

Douglas was still comforting the Gray Plain Wolf, completely unaware of the Mantai People closing in quietly.

This attitude angered the Mantai People greatly, but due to their startled mounts, they could not freely attack.

”Take it easy, I’ll give you freedom, big guy, freedom, got it? It means no more constraints, you can run freely.”

”Think of the grassland, think of your own home, big guy, you were born to run.”

”Don’t be depressed here, run towards freedom, big guy!”

Douglas’s explanation quickly resonated with the Gray Plain Wolf. It raised its head and let out a howl.

The sound was so sudden that the Mantai People’s mounts began to stir restlessly.

It was a call for freedom, and the other Gray Plain Wolves followed, expressing their own longing for freedom.

Howl——

The wolves’ calls shocked everyone, at this moment none could escape the sensation of longing for something innate. That something was the yearning for freedom.

Freedom, the state that all living beings aspire to, and at this moment, the Gray Plain Wolves began to emit this call, clearly a call to wildness. This wildness seemed to symbolize a kind of freedom.

Even Igor forgot to flee; he seemed to feel himself drifting among clouds, that sense of freedom was akin to flying.

The Gray Plain Wolves felt the same; they began bouncing, feeling dissatisfied with the humans on their backs. They wanted to shake off the cloth covering their faces, to open their eyes and see what the world is like...

Everyone was surprised by this scene, and the Mantai People were no exception. This move that caused their mounts to begin betraying them was indeed troubling.

However, the Mantai People were not without a strategy. They had unique insights into training their mounts, which was also their innate skill, making them appear calm at this moment.

For Douglas, this was unexpected.

The reason he chose to tame the leader’s mount was to make the Mantai People hesitate.

But when the Mantai Leader voluntarily gave up his mount, it forced him to change his plan. However, even a Hunter like Douglas couldn’t immediately come up with a method to single-handedly combat the Mantai Cavalry. This disturbance among all the mounts of the Mantai People was completely unanticipated, an unforeseen event.

Douglas just wanted to comfort the Gray Plain Wolf’s emotions, unaware that it would give him such a pleasant surprise, which could be considered a form of repayment.

Sitting on the back of the Gray Plain Wolf, Douglas felt proud; he and the Gray Plain Wolf were not in a master-servant relationship, they were friends helping each other.

This was just one aspect, and it gave him an insight: that dealing with the Mantai People could involve targeting their mounts.

But this insight was completely set aside not long after. Because the Mantai People had fully regained control over their beasts underneath them, and again howled as if preparing to charge.

Douglas naturally understood what this meant; when these Mantai People go crazy on their mounts, they are immensely formidable. Now these Mantai People were ready to act.

”Run, big guy, we can’t face them head-on.” Douglas gently whispered to the Gray Plain Wolf under him, knowing there’s no way to confront them directly right now.

So the Gray Plain Wolf leader started to run...

Igor was also running, but in a much more embarrassing state. Although only one or two cavalry surrounded Igor now, there’s no guarantee there won’t be two more soon...

Igor felt as if his hands and feet were bound, unable to fully leverage his advantages.

No matter how he ran, he couldn’t be faster than those cavalry.

”Hey, young man, get up here!”

Suddenly, a voice rang in Igor’s ear, and he was lifted onto the wolf’s back.

This was Douglas’s aid to him, which left Igor both surprised and delighted...

For the first time on the Gray Plain Wolf’s back, Igor experienced what chasing the wind felt like.

Even though they were fleeing, they still found it awe-inspiring.

They ran towards a direction away from the tavern, behind them the Mantai Cavalry closed in step by step, and their mounts were injured; from every perspective, they were doomed to lose, as the speed of the Mantai Cavalry would sooner or later surpass them, and at that moment, what awaited them was inevitably a rout...
