Chapter 20: Chapter 19: Caterpie vs Delibird! (Two Chapters in One)

Carter’s gaze was drawn to Koraidon.

Naoki turned back and noticed his expression, followed his gaze, and saw Koraidon yawning lazily.

”Are you traveling outside now?” Naoki asked.

Judging by his attire, he looked very much like those trainers Naoki had seen in anime who were traveling.

Carter nodded, ”Yes, by the way, how should I address you?”

Orange Academy’s courses follow a free system.

They don’t require students to attend classes daily; instead, the school encourages students to explore various parts of Paldea or challenge gyms to collect badges.

Naoki understood and didn’t ask more, ”Just call me Naoki. I’ve just taken over this abandoned ranch recently.”

”Alright, Mr. Naoki, sorry to bother you!” Carter noticed there was only one bed in the room, so he took a sleeping bag from his backpack and laid it on the floor.

His gaze occasionally fell on Koraidon, and he couldn’t help but ask, ”What Pokémon is that?”

The name Koraidon was given by Professor Sada when she discovered it, and at this time, Koraidon’s name wasn’t widely known yet.

Thinking of this, Naoki pretended not to know Koraidon’s name and shook his head, ”I don’t know. I’ve just encountered it, and it seems there is no information about it in the Pokedex.”

Upon hearing this, Carter seemed very excited, ”So it’s an undiscovered Pokémon! Mr. Naoki, have you caught it?”

”Caught?” Naoki looked at Koraidon and said, ”Sort of.”

”Wow!” Carter’s eyes were filled with admiration, ”Mr. Naoki, then you must be a great trainer, right?”

Naoki: ”...No, I’m just a rancher.”

However, Carter didn’t seem to believe him.

The aura of that Pokémon is very strong, and if Naoki weren’t a powerful trainer, how could he have caught it?

It is well-known that to capture a Pokémon, you first need to defeat it in battle, proving your strength.

Only then will you gain the Pokémon’s recognition, and it will be willing to be captured in a Poke Ball.

Naoki: ”...”

He didn’t know what to say, so he glanced at the time and, seeing it was late, chose to go to bed.

Carter had experienced a day of wind and rain outside and was both physically and mentally exhausted, so he obediently got into his sleeping bag and soon fell asleep.

In the silent night, the next morning, Carter woke up early.

After a good night’s sleep, he felt refreshed all over.

He looked at the bed and saw that Mr. Naoki was still asleep.

Carter quietly got up, took the Delibird’s Poke Ball, and headed outside.

Standing under the eaves, the ranch he couldn’t see clearly last night was finally visible to him.

Neatly arranged furrows, brown, soft soil, and signposts standing in front of the land.

From a distance, Carter couldn’t see clearly, so he walked to the front of the farmland area.

Now he could finally see the patterns and words on those signs clearly.

”Turnip, Potato...” Carter read them aloud, and then thought, ”Mr. Naoki is a very meticulous person!”

It was apparent that this abandoned ranch had been organized neatly by him.

Everyone is making an effort.

Thinking of this, Carter picked up the Poke Ball, ”Delibird, we can’t be lazy either!”

With a flash of white light, Delibird appeared in mid-air.

”Before breakfast, let’s have a good training session!” Carter said enthusiastically.

This was his way of training Delibird. Every morning after getting up, he would run a few laps with Delibird on the school’s playground before going to have breakfast.

”Bibi!”

Delibird responded, then flapped its wings and began training around the ranch with his trainer.

After running a few laps, the pair stopped, resting under a tree at the edge of the ranch for a few minutes. Carter then said:

”Next, let’s practice the moves you’ve mastered! Have you become proficient in that Icy Wind move you learned last time?”

”Bibi!”

Delibird nodded its head.

Just then, Carter noticed a wild Caterpie on a branch overhead.

His eyes lit up, and he commanded Delibird, ”Delibird, let’s spar with that Caterpie!”

”Bibi!”

Hearing the voice below, the Caterpie on the treetop calmly looked down.

Does it want to fight?

The Caterpie fearlessly gazed at Delibird.

Seeing the Caterpie ready for battle, Carter ordered, ”Delibird, use Icy Wind!”

”Bibi!”

Upon receiving the command, Delibird quickly gathered Ice Type Energy on its body, flapping its wings as a blast of freezing air automatically formed and swept toward the Caterpie on the branch.

”Although Ice Type doesn’t counter Caterpie, Delibird has trained hard for so long, the power of Icy Wind must have improved greatly compared to before. Defeating a Caterpie should be no problem.”

It’s well-known that Caterpie Pokémon are notoriously weak. When facing other Pokémon, besides spitting out fragile Bug Silk, they have almost no ability to retaliate.
