”Ginkaku, you’re finally back. How did the plan go?”

As Ginkaku and his contingent reached the compound gates, an elderly man, his face like weathered bark, emerged, supported by three guards.

”Elder, why are you out here yourself?” Ginkaku’s expression tightened. ”Our probe was thwarted by an outsider. Kinkaku was caught completely off guard and knocked unconscious.”

The elder was the clan’s most senior member, rumored to be the younger brother of Kinkaku and Ginkaku.

Unlike his brothers’ formidable physiques, Elder Mokkaku possessed a sharp mind, his physical abilities less impressive.

He was therefore excluded from their rebellion. After learning of Kinkaku and Ginkaku’s demise with their forces at the hands of Tobirama Senju, he immediately pledged the clan’s loyalty, surrendering their precious tailed beast sealing techniques to secure their continued presence in the village. Mokkaku’s strategic intellect was essential to the Kaguya clan’s survival.

”An outsider?” Elder Mokkaku raised an eyebrow, his expression grave. ”Tell me everything, without omitting a single detail.”

Ginkaku, surprised by the elder’s seriousness, recounted the events without reservation.

After a long silence, Elder Mokkaku’s frown deepened. Glancing at Kinkaku, who was regaining consciousness and about to erupt in anger, he sternly commanded, ”Enough! Don’t make a scene. I’ve already guessed that person’s identity.”

”Elder, you know who he is?” Kinkaku, rubbing his sore chest, was furious but dared not defy the elder, the keeper of the clan’s many secrets.

”During the Third Great Ninja War, after the Third Raikage disappeared, our clan was rarely sent to the battlefield and kept under close surveillance.

However, the red cloud-patterned black robes reminded me of Akatsuki, the organization that rose to prominence in Amegakure in recent years.

They’re supposedly led by three kids who preach peace—a joke in the eyes of the great nations,” Elder Mokkaku said, a cold smile playing on his lips.

”Recently, I paid people to monitor Turtle Island. I thought the Fourth Raikage would be more cautious, but he secretly used Akatsuki to escort the jinchuriki back, attempting to conceal his actions.”

”Elder Mokkaku, you mean we can proceed with the final phase?” Kinkaku’s surprise quickly turned to ecstatic joy. This was what their volatile clan had been waiting for.

”Hmph, this opportunity is remarkably coincidental. We should thank Uchiha Kai, that recent Konoha defector, for this.

Though you’ve only recently mastered that technique, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. If we miss it, we may never get another,” Elder Mokkaku said, a hint of excitement on his weathered face.

He slammed his cane on the ground. ”My older brothers’ ambitions will finally be realized in my lifetime. Order the clan to prepare; they await my command.”

”Yes, Elder Mokkaku!” Kinkaku and Ginkaku responded in unison. As the strongest of their generation, possessing the same potential as their predecessors, Kinkaku and Ginkaku, they had waited a long time for this moment. Only the need for a smooth execution of the plan restrained their urge to act immediately.

”Don’t get ahead of yourselves. The refugee camp is destroyed; we need to see Dodai’s reaction. For now, leave Akatsuki alone. Once our plan succeeds, a mere organization, even a great nation, will be insignificant,” Elder Mokkaku cautioned.

”Don’t worry, Elder Mokkaku. We’ve waited this long, we won’t let the plan fail. But if he interferes, I’ll tear him apart and show him the terror of our clan,” Kinkaku said menacingly, remembering the humiliation of being knocked out by Kai in front of everyone.

”Excellent. Anyone who makes a mistake at this critical juncture and ruins my plan will face my wrath,” Elder Mokkaku said coldly, surveying his surroundings before departing.

Kinkaku and Ginkaku exchanged a look before turning to carry out their orders. Before the final phase, they needed to solidify their trump card.

As the Kaguya clan prepared to move, an oppressive atmosphere settled over Kumogakure. Many Anbu, hidden throughout the village and near the refugee camp, were redeployed. Kai noticed but showed no concern. He disliked trouble, but that didn’t mean he feared it. If trouble came looking for him, he wouldn’t hesitate to deal with it.

”Nagato, the water buffalo milk you requested. But the taste... I’m worried you might not like it. Should I buy some local specialties instead?” Samui asked, carrying two large buckets of milk.

She’d bought three cows years ago to ensure sufficient nutrition for Karui and the other children. The milk had a slightly pungent smell, but for the refugees, it was enough to fill their stomachs. However, Kai and his companions were guests and their saviors. The thought of offering them such inferior milk bothered her.

”You worry too much. Get me some wild ginger from over there,” Kai said, flicking her forehead.

Samui could only glare before hurrying off. In the next half hour, she’d been flicked numerous times. But instead of embarrassment, she felt a strange warmth, as if a barrier between them had been broken.
