The Kumogakure Anbu were shocked, especially the captain impaled on the tree by Kimimaro. Their superiors hadn’t mentioned any reinforcements.

”Akatsuki is more formidable than we thought. The outside world has underestimated you,” a sharp, cool female voice said from behind a nearby rock.

A young woman, about sixteen or seventeen, with blonde hair, emerged. She wore tight-fitting grey combat gear that highlighted her impressive physique.

”Old man, look! She’s even more... well-endowed than Big-Boobs-Lady...” Yugito Nii blurted out.

Kai’s face darkened, and he flicked her forehead. However, he maintained his composure, keeping his gaze fixed on the blonde woman.

Her figure was certainly impressive, and if he remembered correctly, this was Samui, the elite Kumogakure jōnin from the Fourth Great Ninja War.

”Captain Samui!” the impaled captain called out, regaining his composure. ”Our incompetence not only failed to detect Captain Samui’s arrival but also disgraced Kumogakure and betrayed the Raikage’s trust. We deserve death.”

He produced a kunai and, without hesitation, tried to kill himself. Samui shouted, ”Stop!” Senbon needles shot from her sleeve, striking the kunai and knocking it away.

Kai raised an eyebrow. ”Those senbon are made with chakra-conductive materials. Impressive lightning-nature manipulation. You certainly can’t judge a book by its cover—especially a beautiful one.”

He turned to Kimimaro. ”Retract the attack.”

”Yes, sir,” Kimimaro replied, calmly releasing the jutsu. The bone spears vanished as quickly as they’d appeared.

The Anbu couldn’t believe that their elite team had been so easily defeated by a child. As Kimimaro removed the bone spear from the tree, blood spurted out, causing the pale Anbu to collapse.

”Captain Samui, a simple misunderstanding. Akatsuki is merely passing through. Surely you’ll invite us to stay a while?” Kai said smoothly.

Samui gave him a cold look. ”No wonder Yugito calls you ’Greasy Old Man.’ You certainly have a sharp tongue.”

”That bone-spur kid is likely from the Kaguya clan, right? We know Akatsuki recruits rogue ninjas, but having a Kaguya member is unexpected. Aren’t you worried about them seeking revenge?”

The Kaguya clan, known for their bloodlust, were infamous throughout the Five Great Nations. They were feared and avoided.

Kai carrying such a volatile element was surprising. Their history of treachery and violent retaliation was well-documented.

”Kimimaro’s a good kid. Don’t misunderstand,” Kai said, ruffling Kimimaro’s hair, leaving the comment hanging.

Kumogakure’s military strength surpassed even Konoha’s, though it might lag behind in political influence, wealth, and genius cultivation.

Their overall military prowess was still considerable. Kai wasn’t about to pass up this opportunity to infiltrate Kumogakure. However, being too forceful might backfire.

”Big-Boobs-Lady, let the old man come in with us! He’s skilled in sealing techniques, maybe he can...” Yugito pleaded.

Samui appeared beside her instantly, cutting her off. ”Yugito, some things are better left unsaid. Since Akatsuki’s leader wishes to visit Kumogakure, I won’t refuse. However, I expect you to remove your masks and identify yourselves before entering.”

The Anbu’s expressions changed. Their vigilance was palpable as they stared intently at Kai.

”Old man...” Yugito whispered, aware of Uchiha Kai’s true identity. However, her time with him had revealed a surprisingly pleasant side.

”It’s natural to be cautious,” Kai said, ruffling Yugito’s hair.

Just as he was about to remove his cloak, a flurry of sounds filled the air. Two or three dozen Anbu appeared silently, led by Dodai, a Kumogakure elite jōnin with a high appearance rate in the original storyline.

He was the instructor who trained Killer B and the Fourth Raikage in the art of the Lightning Release: Hot Blade. Given the context of the Third Great Ninja War, Dodai appeared to be in his early thirties.

”Sensei Dodai, what brings you here?” Samui asked.

”I’d just escorted the Fourth Raikage beyond the border when I received a special Anbu request for reinforcements from this location.

So I brought my team,” Dodai said, looking at Kai and Kimimaro. ”Seems like that meddlesome Akatsuki group from Amegakure has delivered the jinchuriki vessel.”

”I’m not a ’vessel’! My name is Yugito Nii!” Yugito angrily stomped on Dodai’s foot.

Even this seasoned jōnin was caught off guard, yelping in pain and nearly falling.

This unexpected event only heightened the tension, and Samui’s gaze fixed on Kai.
